A whole battery of problems and questions. (pun intended)

Hello again gentleman. Specifically Hawker, ironass and shotgun.

Whole new raft of S2 questions and problems.

Start with the battery. Besides the battery life being hit or miss the phone now thinks every once in a while that it is still plugged in after disconnecting. When you switch off the phone and try and switch it back on it again shows the image for charging while also switching to a picture of a battery with a warning sign and thermometer. By the time the phone will switch on again where it was at 100% battery it will generally be at 71-78.

I don't appear to be able to deactivate usb bugging currently, it keeps sayins disconnect usb first though it isn't connected. I tried a full wipe but the issue remains.

Titanium back up has been very freezy. Parsing errors or something but it hasn't been working as it should

I have not been able to connect to KIES to think about upgrading to ICS. My kitchen rom is now ics only and i can no longer do jack with it. How do I get there.

I perfectly understand there are guides and step-by-steps out there but I'm think I may have some specific possibly unique issues so i would really appreciate some assistance. One of you told me before about being a bull in a china shop. Well now I want to be a sloth.

I hope there is an Obi Wan out there who can guide.
If i need to root, flash blah whatever from the start again all good.

I've said this one before and I'll say it again:

Squirt an air duster down the usb port and give it a good scrub with a toothbrush.
If you dont have an air duster, then just do the toothbrush.
If you don't have a toothbrush then keep your mouth shut! :)

Tried the toothbrush but didn't work. :/

edit - I just managed to uncheck the debugging think after a second tooth brush going. I applaud you sir.

If an air duster+toothbrush don't work then you may need to try some electrical contact cleaner with a toothbrush. I actually got some carb cleaner from the garage - its essentially the same stuff.

I had to do this on an iPhone. Its scary when you squirt the stuf down, but clean it well enough and leave it to evaporate properly and it did the trick for me.

Ok i'm going to do a titanium back up of everything and then just reset it to absolute basics and start over. I figure that way I can at least connect KIES and the upgrade to ICS before I do anything. This would be the wiser, cautious move yes?

Right I see software update in about but I click it and it doesn't react? Do I need to change some stuff before I upgrade or what?

Like how do I initialise upgrading to ICS. Do I have to root again or what?

Please gents, really need a few pointers on this tonight.

Phone is falling to 1% at times after a night. If you could just help me figure out the update process or where I need to start i assume the rooting and flashing on ICS is similar. At the moment is like having a 5 years old laptop.

edit - I'm on my second charge from almost 0 battery today. I practically haven't have a phone in the past week.

This is what I did when upgrading from GB to ICS.

1. I made sure all my TB backups were user apps only and no system files. then I moved all my backups off my phone and put them on my computer, that way I could move them back with the data later.

2. I made a nanoid backup for obvious reasons.

3. I made a backup of all my contacts, not with google but off of my phone. I also moved this off the phone and onto my computer.

4. I moved any info I wanted to keep off my internal SD and external SD. I then proceeded to format my internal SD and external SD card so they were both like new for the upgrade.

5. I did a factory reset to remove root and wipe out and "junk" file I had accumulated.

6. I downloaded my stock ICS firmware through CheckFus and flashed that file through Odin.

After all that was done, I proceeded to reroot with the help of ironass dummies guide. Then it was just a simple, yet time consuming, task of moving all my data back onto my phone. Did I probably use a bit of overkill......yes. But I didn't experience the issues that many did while upgrading to ICS.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! I'm almost sorry for making another thread but maybe some more knowledge will land there also.

now to learn what the hell nanoid is...

But of course to do as posted above, you need your phone to turn on so you can move files. But you also need to be able to get into download mode to be able to flash through Odin.

Are you able to do either of these things?

yes I am now. I did a full wipe earlier and I stopped getting the thermometer battery icon

Nanoid backups are when you go into recovery mode, usually via CWM, and basically make a "system image" of your phone. That way if anything goes crazy, you can at least get your phone back to how it was without to much work.

Always a good idea to make one before you do any major changes to your phone

edit: You can make a nanoid backup by either go into CWM and selecting backup, or you can boot into recovery go to "backup and restore" setting and selecting backup.

Just remember, all I did was tell you what I did.

What you understand, and how you do yours, is up to you..........and your fault! :D

First things first......did you root with a CF root?

Then give me a very detailed description of what you have done so far. And we can work this out from there.

Originally I followed all the threads on here.

i did the cf root then went with siyah and checkrom

after that i went with neak and went to checkrom v6

everything was fine but then my phone starting acting a little unstable recently.

Now if I have too root again which kernel do I use?

This is what I would do if I was you.

You already moved all your data off the phone, so that part is good. Are you using and external card? Is there anything on it you want to keep? If not, go into "settings/storage" find you usb storage and format it. If there is nothing on your external sd you want to keep format that too while you are there.

Once that is done, go into CWM if you can, go to "reboot into recovery". While you are there you do the 4 wipes.... wipe data/factory rest, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache, and wipe battery stats". Do them in that order, 2 times.

Then let your reboot your phone, you should have to set it up all over again. Then tell me what it says in "about"......

yeah still says neak and checkrom v6 after following your last post

edit - got some database error from the website though the post failed. weird.
