Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

O M G pinch me, I think I'm dreaming. This is everything and more than I hoped for. I've been lurking for a while in anxious anticipation for some confirmation on the rumored specs. This is an awesome forum with great information; thank you to billsmed and Ouhei for great (accurate) information.

Now all we need is a release date and price... Sprint is saying summer but I'm thinking positive and hoping for an early surprise. I did notice that some of the press shots show the date on the phone as June 1. I wonder if that is a clue. Either way I'm up for renewal and READY!

Is there another service like Skype that will make the front facing camera useful? Just wondering.

I hope there is an app dev that will take advantage of this AWSOME FFC!!
I read and saw video so much today that I can't remember where it was talked about, but someone said (I think it was Hesse himself) that the hardware was first created and that a developer will create the software to utilize the front facing camera. Most likely in the social networking camp.

TS out (still drooling over this phone)

my concern is that they spend too much on hardware which can make it too expensive and becomes less popular.

for example:
1) HDMI is nice but is it practical? how often are we going to use it? especially regular and majority of consumers, excluding us geeko.
2) 8 megapixel camera and 720p video are awesome. but is it practical?
for family pictures, I rather use my dedicated canon camera or HD camcorder. No way the phone can replace dedicated camera/camcorder since the phone is too thin and its lense will suffer. you can't trick physic. lense is the most important component in photograhy.

all of these hardware will be costly with less practical use. it is the software that they should focus on more with features, usability, and apps.

Billsmed, I'm both exciting and practical here. the phone hardware is second to none on the current market. I know you don't like critical opinion of the phone. I don't mean that way. just want to express my concerns.
What does it matter if it's practical? If you don't feel like you need a phone with these things, buy one that doesn't have them.

This phone is aimed to take the top spot in features, it's meant as a statement to all competitors to "beat this!". It's supposed to be more than what most people need and provides a glimpse of what phones will feature in the future. With the rise of slim point and shoot cameras and small HD camcorders (Flip), the next move is to integrate these things in to one device. The EVO 4G is a step towards that. The phone will take decent everyday pictures and decent video (probably on par with what flip offers). If you want to take serious pictures or video, you'll bring a dedicated device, if you're just snapping a picture or a video, break out the EVO.

anyone notice no FM radio?

i absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on this. My hero looks so...pedestrian in comparison.

yea i saw that on the OP but on the Sprint website when you click full specs:

Well guy it offical in the summer Evo will hit the market running. Congrate to all sprint member. I wish I could get this phone.:(
Beside the point I'm happy to finally see a android phone without 3.2+flash, 5 no flash, 5+flash. I almost feel like the Evo straight from Europe. LOL. Way ahead of it time

Now that we know "what" I only have five questions left

1) WHEN?

2) WHEN?

3) WHEN?

4) WHEN?

5) How much?

I guess the last one is moot.heheheh

Alright, I may be goofy but could some one explain to me how , if this device hasn't passed FCC yet, are there people at CTIA useing them?

Welcome DCLocal and thanks for your comments. My guess the summer thing was just pushing the media away. I think Dan Hesse wants to make that announcement himself and I believe he's going to tell us it will be available next week or some time shortly after that. I don't have inside information like Ouhei did, but that's what I think.

'custom web browser with Flash support'

thats from boy genius report

so it's safe to say that this phone will indeed ship with adobe flash software on board?

when is the flash update coming for all android devices anyway?

just curious

I also put the specs on post #1 of this thread.

I know but I was momentarily dismayed when I didn't see them on the "official" sprint site :) Thought something may have gotten lost in translation and I wanted to be sure, since I've seen posts on other boards that the FM radio must have been dropped since it wasnt on the main site.

I don't even know how an FM radio on a phone works. I suppose it comes with a stock app or widget? Would non-stock apps be able to control it?

I've read there are certain phones, like the Hero, that won't get flash updates because they don't meet the minimum hardware specs. Someone should fact check that though.

but what about devices like the n1 and the droid

adobe was demonstrating flash on the n1 back in january

i wonder when it will officially be distributed

aslong as the evo has the 10.1 version on board i'll be happy
