Upgrading from LG Optimus V

Hi, I recently lost my LG Optimus V (stolen by a taxi driver), so I'm trying to decide if I should buy another LG Optimus V (~$70-80) or upgrade to the Motorola Triumph ($230).

I want to stay on Virgin Mobile's $25/month plan which I have now.

What do you guys think is the best deal for me right now in terms of what's worth it right now and future proofing? I'm going to use this phone for at least a year (possibly more if I get the MT or the HTC)

Thanks!

Edit:
Now it's between buying the same phone I had before (the OV) for $80 or getting a new MT for ~$230, since I can't get the $5 monthly reduction
what do you guys think?

If it were me, personally I would research both phones till my eyes bled. Read their forums and find out what issues each of the phones have. Read online reviews. Watch reviews for both on YouTube (I'm sure there are vids for "Triumph vs HTC One V"). Read, read, read. This way you will be able to make your own informed decision regarding which phone will be best suited to you.

The only reason I'd buy a Triumph is if I had $230 to throw in the trash. Only thing it has going for it is the larger screen.

I went from an Optimus V to an Elite. I like the Elite a lot, but wish I had held out and saved the extra cash for a One V (although then I would have lost my $25 a month plan).

Is the $5 a month saving with auto-pay actually available for Android devices? Last I saw it was only if you had the iPhone.

I went digging and am unable to find any info regarding it at all.

Exclusive iPhone Discount: What it is and how it works

Exclusive iPhone Discount: What it is and how it works As a Virgin Mobile iPhone customer, you can receive a $5/month discount on your Beyond Talk plan by enrolling in Auto Pay. To enroll in Auto Pay, you simply register a credit card, debit card, or PayPal account and sign up for automatic monthly payments. After the $5/month discount is applied, this would bring the $35/month Beyond Talk Plan to $30/month, the $45 Beyond Talk Plan to $40/month, and the $55/month Beyond Talk Plan to $50/month. You can enroll in Auto Pay at any time, but you will only receive a discount on your monthly plan if you are enrolled BEFORE making the plan payment.

yeah you guys are right. the $5 is only for the iphone

looks like it's between buying the OV again for $80 for buying the MT for $230

what do you guys think? worth spending more money to upgrade to the MT or get a OV for now (I'll be using it for at least another year)? I currently do not have a phone, since I lost my OV :(

I personally would not get the triumph. I originally intended on doing so when it was released, I couldn't afford it at release and watched their forum. It was the same story time after time, light leaks, GPS wouldn't lock, camera stopped working so on and so forth.

As the ROMs started coming it got better, but even then people were on 4th and 9th devices.

Of those two devices, I'd go with the Optimus V. It works without root, it works without a ROM, it gets much better with a custom ROM but doesn't require it.

Bear in mind, I have never used a Triumph only 3 different Optimus Vs (my own, my wife's and a friend's I ROMed for her).

The biggest factor for me is the price. If I can find some way to justify the 150$ extra (such as future proofing), I'd make the purchase.

I'd recommend the htc one v, it's $200 and I've been researching for a couple weeks since I'm upgrading next month and have heard nothing but good things.

I'm limited to either sticking with the same phone, or the motorola triumph now, since getting the htc one will raise my monthly bill.

I bought a used 2.2.1 V as a spare for $40.00. It's actually better then this one (Processor is perfect).
This one is super tough, I'm sure the spare is too.
By the time Sprint's (and VM's) 4G service get's firmly established in my area (Probably over two years) this one might have died and I will be using the spare. Then and only then will I buy a 4G phone.
Makes no good sense to buy a 4G phone if there is no 4G on VM in my area.
Edit: The phone has to have a forward facing camera and cost no more than $200.00 witn a screen between 3.2 and 3.7 (It has to fit in a vest or shirt pocket).

Wow! Sorry, sorry, sorry. Fixed
It was supposed to say shirt pocket.
MacFett, could you please delete my mistake from your quote.

The OV barely works stock. The memory is so small, it is only useful for someone that wants no more that 10-12 apps. Rooting and using Link2SD it at least works. It's slow and a little finicky screenwise.

But, if you keep your expectations low, it's a good phone.

Alot of folks would disagree.

If you're comparing it to an iphone or higher-end android device, you'd be disappointed. It's a killer entry/mid-level phone. So much so, that i'd call it a "swiss army droid". Is the screen smallish ? Yeah. Is the memory limited, to a fault ? Yes. But BARELY WORKS ? WHAT ? 10-12 apps ? WHAT ? The fact is, it's reliable, fairly brick-resistant, built like an elephant, reliable, gets great battery life, not too much bloatware, and did i mention it's reliable ?

I've known three people whose screens have cracked by a ~2-3 foot drop, and i don't know too many people, lol. (2 iphone, 1 razr) Mine's been run over by a car and there's not a darn thing wrong with it.

Point is, if it's a first smartphone, it'll be great. As you gain familiarity with the platform, the need and ability to root will likely coincide. If it's not a first smartphone, and the screen's too small (or other similar deal-breakers)... ... ... why buy it ?

I'm rooted with a custom recovery, and custom ROM.
16GB Sandisk class 4 uSD card with almost a 40MB/s read speed. I gave it a 2GB partition formatted to FAT32. This allows me to use Link2SD.
Link2SD allows me to have 120+ downloaded and installed apps and still have over 100MB of space left on the phone.
Overclocked to 480-748 (don't need to go any higher with this ROM) and every game runs fast and smooth. The screen is fast and responsive. My apps open with a speed that can't be touched by most custom ROM's, and my battery life is as good as it can get( screen on, solid internet browsing will get me 6 hours before the battery gets below 30%)
As mentioned this phone is tougher than most. I have had it since May of last year and have put it through a heck of a lot (I'm a flash-a-holic) and it still hasn't shown any signs of giving up.
My first one I bricked (really hard bricked it), but just now got it back to life with the advancement in programs and knowledge for doing so. If you can turn power on to the phone, even if it only goes to the splash screen, it ain't dead.

This is why a like my V.
Until I see a phone that has all these quality's plus 4G LTE and a forward facing camera, I'll just slip over to my backup (2.2.1 with a perfect processor) when this one finally gives out sometime next year (if even then).
