the EVO is cool now, but probably won't be when it's released in June... come on, this thing should be in stock now for it to really get some attention. Newer and better things are always coming... you can't announce something in March and expect people to wait 3 months for it. meh.
I thought from the tone of your message that you seemed down, so I checked to see where you've been posting and I have to say that I really, really feel sorry for everyone in the Incredible camp. I mean that sincerely. I originally came to this forum because I was interested in the N1, but then information came out about the Bravo and I thought this phone is going to be even better since it will have Sense UI. After all the Bravo threads were closed, I went to the Incredible forum and started posting. About that same time, information came out out about the Supersonic. Based on specs and early leaks, it seemed to me that it would be more powerful than the Incredible, plus it would run on 4G. I kinda teetered back 'n forth a little, but the more I looked into it, the more interested I became in the Supersonic.
For your sake and for all the others in the Incredible forum, I hope something is said about the Incredible at CTIA today. A lot of the people over there have been around for a long time and I feel like they're friends. I'm thinking of people like Rubin, Nashdroid and others. There's no doubt that you guys have the most active, vibrant forum on AF, so I was compelled to keep up with you guys. It's not like you were the enemy. Not at all. The way I see it, those in the Incredible forum and those of us in this forum want the same thing and that's a really good, powerful HTC phone with android and Sense UI. That's what we've all been waiting for.
When I went there last night, I immediately picked up on the mood. Everyone was so down, because nothing was being said about the Incredible at CTIA. I could feel the pain and it hurt to see everyone so bummed out. A lot of them are keeping their chins up, so hopefully everything will work out.
I realize the Incredible forum is a Verizon based forum and I've read quite a few posts bashing Sprint. Some of them said they would like to have the EVO, but not on Sprint. I personally feel Sprint is getting a bad rap. Most of us here that are with Sprint really like their service. When roaming (which isn't often) you are switched to the Verizon towers, so that puts us on somewhat equal footing. I have found Sprint's customer service to be excellent and their plans are cheaper than Verizon's plans are. Add mobile-to-any-mobile and you can call anyone in the US and not use minutes.
Since you've been hanging out in the Incredible forum, you may or may not be aware that Sprint's WiMAX service will rival DSL and cable speeds on your desktop computer. I find that very compelling. Just think what that could do for video conferencing and streaming video, even on your HDTV.
Yesterday at CTIA, the president of AT&T said it would take them 3 or 4 years to get 4G going. Since Verizon doesn't have a keynote speaker this year, we don't officially know their position, but most of the reports I've read say it's going to take 4 to 5 years for the other major carriers to build out 4G. Just a couple of weeks ago, Verizon did say they would have their first 4G phone by the middle of next summer. By then, EVO will be in the next generation. No matter what, you have to give Sprint credit for thinking ahead. They already having 4G service deployed in a lot of major cities and they're working frantically to get it deployed in more cities. Sprint started in the planning stages 5 years ago (where Verizon is now) and they started deploying WiMAX in 2008. This and the EVO gives Sprint a huge heard start that Verizon may not be able to overcome. Some in the Incredible forum are asking what will happen when LTE is deployed. Will that sink Sprint and kill the Supersonic/EVO? Sprint answered that question yesterday when they said they could easily change over, if necessary. There's even speculation that EVO will be compatible with both standards.
When I said we all want the same thing, meaning a powerful phone, I don't see any reason why we can't all have that. I mean, would you rather have a really great phone you can show off, or would you rather be able to say you're a loyal Verizon customer? Seems like a no brainier to me.
If you would like to switch your allegiance and join the party here, you're more than welcome. It would be great if you did.
