Root FF19 and root issues

I updated to the FF19 rooted image"FF19_ROOTED.zip" with odin it has Clockworkmod and Superuser that was preinstalled and now I am unable to use Root on link2sd or Advast firewall it does not prompt for root access. I can give anything root access.

I even tested on an android terminal emulator su and nope so I think when I updated I lost my root being there. I even did a Fresh transfer with odin and tried again and install "Android Terminal Emulator and I still could not get su prompt to grant root access. If I can't find out why I may have to downgrade to FE16 to get root back.

What were you running before? Rooted Stock (what version) or a custom ROM?

I run CM7 and I did not see much benefit to ODIN the whole thing, so I just did the phone.tar baseband.

There has not been much comment about this update, but the little that has been made has not been positive regarding the baseband.

I have not noticed any speed improvement, but I seem to have less quirky phone stuff occur and it switches between 1x and 3g and WIFI without problems. That could be because of tower upgrades though. I have not tried Bluetooth.

Did you do a CWM backup before you Ran ODIN? Depending upon what ROM you were running you may have problems restoring it. Nothing that can't be fixed.

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem. Kouma always does an excellent job of rooting these updates, but he did mention seeing some new tricks up their sleeve.

Get back to us with what you were running before and we will take it from there.

I downgraded to FE16 for now. but I was using the stock prerooted FF19"w/all the .tar files" or so I thought lol. I tried the JoyOS rom and root worked but when I went to run MX player it lagged extremely video and audio sync issue on file that I have played on the phone before with no issues. I mainly need a rom that is light weight to were the OS does not lag out

So I will play around later but for now I put back in FE16 with ODIN and root does work and to try to stop the over the air update notices I uninstalled the system update apk as a suggestion from this thread Disable system update notification, SOLVED - xda-developers so the phone does not phone home to look for android OS updates. I need to eventually buy a used prevail to use as a lap rat.

Glad you got it working.

Hint: Try CM7. You will not get updates and it is an excellent ROM, IMHO.

You can use whatever baseband you prefer too. Use the Kato OC Kernel. Your choice on sd-ext support. Plain old S2E works fine for me.

You probably just had a bad flash. Redownload the Odin files and try again. Also make sure that when you select each of the individual files in Odin, change the folder to the new files for each button. When I upgraded from fa19 to fe16, I ended up flashing one FE16 file and the rest FA19, because Odin kept going back to the old folder.

If you have the rooted FE16 update, there should be no OTA updates since it's the newest version. I recommend CTmod for the rom, its quite lightweight and responsive

Both files I downloaded fresh odin was fresh downloaded same with FF19. Odin it good because to flashes FE16 fine and root works. i will reupdate and try out ctmod and test it because I need little lag because i do watch Videos on my phone.

I am not sure why prople are in such a hurry to update to FF19 when there are currently no known benefits and I have seen several possible root issues.

I odin'd FF19 Rooted for a fresh start and did a fresh install of JoyOS. I can't really tell a difference other than the data and GPS seems to be a little more responsive. My phone was due up a complete overhaul anyway.

FF19 is the newest version and is found in the Odin image thread.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but last I knew if you are running stock (rooted or not) you'll receive the OTA updates unless you tell your phone not to.

in in the last rooted version I found a way to disable that you remove the System update program and reboot and no more phoning home to check for updates as I posted a link in this thread.

I don't have an Updatesystem or SystemUpdate apk in my /app folder. where was yours?

it's in " /system/app/ " - you need root to rid yourself of it.

Yeah that's where I was checking but don't see anything like that in there. Rooting running CT3.6

I was trying to edit build.prop like I had in the past, but for a week or two it wouldn't save it or let me delete the backups I had. Kept trying and it finally worked two days ago for some random reason.

While playing around in an adb shell, I noticed the output for the ls (list directory) command on the FF19 update added color codes, which were not displayed under the rooted FE16 firmware my PlatinumTel Prevail was shipped with. I can manually revert to previous behavior if I include --color=NEVER in my commandline.

I haven't been able to locate a corresponding setprop command in the init files, would this be part of the kernel changes Koumajustu mentioned? I tried making a .tar of busybox from the rooted FE16 firmware and extracting it over the busybox in FF19_ROOTED in hopes of fixing issues with su, but that didn't help.

Does su depend on busybox output being formatted a certain way (minus color codes), and would that mess things up if different?

With Superuser 3.1.3 (su 3.1.1) I either get a freeze followed by FC when an app requests permissions, or a toast that every app has been denied superuser access. If I update to Superuser 3.2-RC3 it just gives me continue "allowed superuser access" toasts but the apps I tried (Root Explorer, Busybox installer) don't actually have access.

Hi Kouma,

well, I have FE16_Root running with your kernel in DATA mode..... all works perfectly fine, no problems at all.......

So would upgrading to FF19_Root give me any benefits ??? I mean, I never saw any changelog or anything and don't know what's actually new and/or maybe better in FF19 compared to FE16 !!!

Any ideas or anything you know ???

Thankls.
