***Official HTC Incredible Thread***

Hello all,
I have been lurking on this forum and a few other android forums for several months and this is my first post here. Some information on the ROM file that is hosted on Conflippers site. I have been using smartphones all the way back to the PPC6600 and since the PPC6700 the HTC rom loading tool that has been pictured here has looked like this for several years. There has been some cosmetic changes over the years but it is basically the same. Conflipper has consistantly been ahead of most others at getting access to ROM files earlier than the general public. As for the picture of the phone on the loader screen. The pictures are generally of preproduction phones and don't always match up perfectly with actually released models. I personally know that the PPC6800 and the PPC6900 pictures varied from the actaully release models. I would count this ROM as authentic because of what I have seen in the past both from HTC and Conflipper. I am currently downloading the file and will look it over once it is finished. I hope this is helpful.

You guys amaze me. You should work for the CIA or NSA.

We have been compromised.

Abort!

My wife sometimes reads over my shoulder because she finds you all so entertaining. She just told me that she thinks she might want to get an Incredible, too...because everyone is so excited about it.

So thanks a lot, guys - you just cost me an extra $30/month.

:D

No, no, no. That's all your fault for not just telling her you were looking at porn. :p

can we pull the boot img out and convert to a jpg gif ?

The image I wanted to attack was the splash1, which may be the splash screen that's shown while booting. You'd have to convert it from the 16bpp that the file is in to something more useful. The conversion to 565 is probably done with this program: rgb2565 source code.

boot.img, being only 2 megs, seems very small. My guess is that's just the Linux kernel. So maybe the extract-ikconfig script would do wonders on that. The kernel config would be an interesting thing to look at.

system.img would be what I want to bust wide open. It's a LARGE file, and may contain some real juicy bits. Yes, I know userdata.img is a HUGMONGOUSMASSIVEWADOFFILE, but I want to see which versions of the Android framework, plus any "drivers", may be hiding in there...and my hunch is system.img is it.

I don't have my Linux box handy (nor the bandwidth at work to d/l such a beast), so I can't try to rip apart those files with any ease...

so ... any thoughts on it (the rom) appearing in a directory named "shipped"?

WTF?! :o :D :D

Thanks guys for checking out that ROM. I have to head to work so keep it up! I expect some juicy news about what's in that ROM when I check in later :) Thanks again dudes!

I had a dream last night that the incredible was announced with the name "Nero" and was available for 99.99 with contract. I have no idea where that name came from and I hate it, but man that price would be awesome.

That would be kind of funny if they don't announce it at CTIA and later reveal it as he Nero. Verizon fiddled while Rome burned (ie everyone else announced smart phones).

We've got the run around about this phone and 2.1 for months now. People keep giving dates and they are always wrong. It's a great device but by the time they decide to finally throw it out there for us we'll know of a much better phone coming a month or two later. Sure we have pictures, sure we find new pictures, sure there's new rumors every week, but in the end it's the same as the Verizon iphone rumors.
We literally have 0 legit info other than photos to go on.

How have we gotten the runaround about this phone? Did I miss Verizon announcing this phone and a release date which we have now passed?

I'm sure that the people who have given information on announcement/release dates on this phone have done their best, but sometimes things change or rumors floating around a company are mistakenly passed along as fact.

Unless I am mistaken, I do not believe that anybody providing dates has listed a senior/ranking employee of VZW as his source, nor have they claimed to be one themselves. In fact, the only people on this forum who have actually provided tangible information related to the phone's specs (i.e., tested or know someone who tested the phone) have NOT promised anything about release dates. Indeed, NKT has said time and time again that based on the circumstantial evidence he sees, he is projecting a mid-April to May release for this phone. Stericson would do no more than confirm that the phone is coming this spring. In short, nobody with any actual knowledge has stated any announcement or release dates as being set.

The point of my original post was that none of this would logically support the conclusion that the Incredible has either been scrapped, or delayed beyond the April-May 2010 time period. VZW has traditionally been tight-lipped about phone releases, and based upon this thread, they have good reason to be.

As for the 2.1 roll-out for the Droid, I don't know what happed either. As a BlackBerry Storm owner though, I can honestly say that VZW seems to take forever when compared to other carriers when releasing software updates. I have no idea why that is, and yes, it certainly can be extremely frustrating.

Let's keep it positive here until we have a reason to be upset, i.e., an official announcement of a release date that is months off, or even worse, no word at all about this phone as we get into May.

Not trying to argue with you about this, but I do think all of us (myself included) need some perspective every now and then. Now, let

My other favorite tester has another "toothpasted" device.

FYI, this tester has been taking Bravo/Desire pictures.

Edit: Nevermind, bottom USB connector means not Incredible

I'm working every angle I can. Still not easy to do from a third-person stance. And to make matters worse, it's a busy day at the VZW store and my pal there is slammed. Again, at last check the text (from about 30 minutes ago now) read simply: "He's in Spokane. Stayed there overnight." That's all I've got. No clue yet when he's leaving there. I can only ASSUME that he's headed east from there now or very soon. More details as I get them.

So, slightly off topic here, but does anyone understand the marketing side behind Sprint unveiling the EVO PRIOR to Hesse's keynote? Do they believe this device alone is enough to take complete control over the show for its entirety and that by doing this Sprint will become the prime focus? Seems to me they could have had an astronomical focus on day two with his keynote as well as the announcement of the EVO during that, then potentially the expanding of WiMAX to those additional cities. It seems by spreading out their news, they lose some of their impact if some other carriers bring something large to the field today.

so ... any thoughts on it (the rom) appearing in a directory named "shipped"?

Shipped doesn't necessarily mean shipped on device. It also refers to shipped (complete) roms from HTC. I would get updated "shipped" roms that were downloaded directly from the HTC site after the device had already been on the market. It is how HTC did their upgrades for their WinMob phones.
