Root HTC EVO 4G Unbrick Guide: Hard-Brick Only (won't turn on or charge).

Heres the situation..

This was a ebay purchase.. I'm addicted to fixing these phones, and i've decided to move into the harder fixes..

Anyways.. the guy i got it off "bricked" it by trying to flash a rom, I think it was twrp, but not certain. $50.00 bucks, figured its worth a shot..

So. The steps above, get the phone to vibrate and flash green lights, but no picture on the screen... Tried to remove battery, left it out for a while, put battery back in, plugged in, nothing...

I've done this probably 100 times in the last 3 days... Same results each time..

I'm at the point now of looking into a jtag service to resurrect it...

It wont boot into hboot, wont boot into os, wont charge, wont turn on... but the computer does detect it when plugged in...battery or not... so i know its not dead..

If there is any other solution then jtagging, im all ears, or eyes... whatever...

If I could get it to hboot, I would just flash it back to stock.. but unfortunately, that is not an option..

I talked to HTC technical support, and they said if ADB can detect it, theres a good chance of recovery.. unfortunately I am 100% INEXPERIENCED with ADB..

Send your device to Mobile Tech Videos....

40 bucks to jtag it.. if the nand is bad, they refund you...

Not to shabby..

I'll update the status once the device is returned.
 
Might anyone have a tutorial in fixing a soft brick on a EVO 4G that been bootloader 2.18 unlocked with S-on still. I turn it on and it goes straight to the white bootloader screen..I have tried several PC36IMG's..it sees it but never gives me the option to UPDATE...I AM willing to donate to anybody that can get me straight..real talk..anybody who can help..hit me up...e-mail jay@rand.ws
 
Here is an update, in case anyone is wondering...

Mobile tech videos got this P.O.S evo back to life... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Took it from "unrepairable", at least thats what everyone said on the web, to working status...

Unfortunately it has a different esn on the device then what it states on the back... I was able to "repair" the ESN to its original, but now it gives me No Signal... Won't do a ##786# reset, and won't write anything via ##3282#..

I've downgraded the radio, still nothing.

By the way... Anyone needs the scan locations for the MEID and PESN on the latest firmware on the HTC EVO send me an PM I will hook you up.

And that EVO that launches to the HBOOT is far from bricked my friend..


Anyways.. Any advice on getting the network to connect to this p.o.s.... I am completely lost at the moment.

Hello forum,

My rooted EVO is completely DEAD. No power lights, no boot on either battery, USB to PC or wall charger. I have tried the HTC EVO Unbrick Guide trick over and over to no avail.

My device was just sitting on my desk connected to my PC via USB and I think the battery ran down fully. Was doing nothing unusual. Do you think the sprint store can kick start or re-flash the device? I can just buy a new one for $50.00 but would like to try and save this one if possible.

Thanks for the link to Mobile Tech Vids. I am pretty sure a JTAG brick repair is the only thing that will get me out of this dead phone issue. I will let you guys know how it goes. I am still really confused how my device got Bricked when I wasn't doing anything on it. Sigh :confused:
 
Follow up. Well come to find out my EVO was not bricked. The battery was totally drained. I learned about putting the battery in the freezer for an hour trick and I got enough life to boot the phone, attach to charger and get it up to full charge. New batteries are on the way.
 
hi all i am new to the forum.
try to do what the Vol button as they say but the cell does not respond or do anything.
a friend gave me the phone because I wanted to update and said he was confused rom put it in another phone just will not start now then when I plug that I get a very soft light red and the computer recognizes me.
I can do to get him back the phone?

what is your hboot? go to the bootloader (power off then press and hold power+vol down)

can you get into recovery?
 
hopefully could do that but the cell ocnbrze be brickeado is doing nothing does not answer the phone.
the only thing it does is light a very soft light when I try to turn on or when I connect to the PC or wall charger.
and I also recognized by the computer but still nothing I can do I can not make the phone do not turn on or enter the recobery. ie I can not do anything

Perhaps you need a new battery?:(
 
and try the battery of my phone and nothing according to my friend was confused rom you install one cell was not reset when caught no more. try to walk all over again but no longer I can do to at least be able to enter the recovery so I can install another rom that if a cell is removed from the cache and everything else.

Things Needed:

> USB Cable.

> A Back up you already have on recovery.

> Wall Charger

> ...um... yea that's it. OH yea volume up and down.

Tip: If you don't have any backups for your ROM, then you just need to clear storage on Bootloader, (reset phone).



STEPS:

1. Get your phone. Take out both battery and SD or sim card.

2. Get USB Cable, plug into computer.

3. Take your phone (naked) and plug in the USB cable.

4. Hold down the Volume up + down, while holding place battery (not SD card) back into the phone.

5. Keep holding on until Phone goes into USB mode (vibrates or something). You can stop holding buttons down. The computer may not recognize your phone. That's okay, doesn't have to.

6. Try and see if there is a green blinking light on your phone. This is the sign of hope!!! If not try steps 3-5 again.

7. If so then take you phone, plug it into the wall charger.

8. Again, take battery out let it sit for about 2-3 or 5 minutes.

9. Now you can put both your SD card and battery, back into the phone. Your Phone should now have an orange blinking light. Your phone is charging again!!!

10. Give your phone time to charge, until blinking turns solid orange.

11. Now you can access you Bootloader, and recovery, and restore your Backups!

my phone doesnt vibrate or anything but a blinking orange light comes after I hold the volume up button. what does this mean?

Here's another idea, and it sounds wierd, but I've heard of people doing this, take battery out and put it in the freezer for a while. Then put back in phone to charge.
I have not done that, but I've heard of it working.:p

I have seen it tried in other forums and it worked. Hopefully it hasn't died completely.
 
So I did everything the instructions says but once my phone has an orange solid light or solid green I try to turn on and it vibrates a little and then the light goes off and I have to do everything all over 4 the same thing to happen... Any one knows why my phone wont turn on

we need a little more info. what did you do to get your phone in this state? what rom are you on? can you get to recovery? what is your hboot and baseband(radio)?

the more info you can give us the better we can help you.
