905 brings backs the horrible data drops.

Did you try transferring some data with WiFi disabled? Don't you have to do that to see that there really is a data drop? Maybe the indicator is just wrong (an unproven hypothesis of mine that it was introduced in 5.9.905).

... Thom

Yes. Play store wouldn't come up, the Steam app DCed, though the Raindar app would still pull data.

Well, not quite as easy as I'd hoped,* but johnlgalt did appear to have the best solution -- just flashing to the .232 leak.

Am currently discovering some of .232's quirks, but so far (knock wood) there have been no data drops. It's dropped from 4G to 3G, and the 4G has dropped from blue to white -- but I still had a data connection, so am satisfied. (You will all clearly be the first to know if I still get data drops -- well, no, the second to know. If I drop data frequently on ICS, the first call will be to VZW, as the Bionic will be history.)

*somehow ended up having to download it thrice, and the installation instructions omitted how to get to the blue recovery menu from the Android with the exclamation point, but these were things I could get around.

Will look closely at the instructions. I like to make sure they are virtually fool proof, usually with pictures, but i haven't made an all encompassing guide for this yet.

I suppose i should....

I sincerely hope that your days of trouble are over. We have a beast of a device, and the ICS leaks have really started to make our phones (finally!) shine.

As for the icon turning white but still having connectivity: that sends to support that the blue indicates AV active Google log in, then. If the blue versus white only indicated general connectivity, then every time it turns white you should not be able to have any data access at all. Since you can, it seems to me that the presence if the icon itself indicates whether or not you're connected to VZW's network, and the blue indicated whether or not you're Google account had an active log on or not.

And for the times that you have a white icon buy no data, it coif be in the process of acquiring a connection.

Anyhoo, enjoy the other tweaks you'll gradually notice in ICS :P

When flashing the 232 leak do you lose your customizations (ie; widgets, icons, etc) or does all remain same?
When the official update comes out, we will have to revert back to 905 for the update to work...do I understand correctly?
Reverting back is easy?

Thx,
Another frustrated bionic owner

If you are already on .905 now, no. If you are on .902, you take the .905 OTA and then apply the leak, so again, no.

However, if you are forced to apply the .905 FXZ to get your phone back to .905, you have options of either keeping your data or not keeping it. Obviously, if you keep it, you will not lose your customizations, but if data gets wiped, you will.

As for reverting, it's pretty easy, and yes, AFAICT you will need to be on .905 to take the final upgrade when it is released. Again, with reverting, there are ways to save your data so that your customizations are not list.

How to you get past Android screen with exclamation point?

Ok, got passed exclamation point, but now blue screen only shows 3-4 directories and is not showing "downloads" where ics leak is. ????
Thanks

It's kind of picky about what it shows. Take the ICS leak out of downloads and let it sit there (on your external SD card) without being in a folder. Should pop right up.

Yeah, I did that, still not showing. When I get blue screen there is the option to "apply update", but no option to "install update"....that may be my issue. any guidance? Much appreciated

"Apply Update from SD Card" is correct.

(I ended up using a combination of johnlgalt's instructions and the ones on that webpage I linked to right before his instructions.)

Not sure where you got your download from -- when I got the DL from dautley's links (http://androidforums.com/motorola-d...inks-help-you-ics-back-updated-7-17-12-a.html), I had some problems with it and it came up with some language AFTER the .zip It didn't show up on my screen of things to upload from (on the SD card) until I changed it so that it only ended with a .zip extension. So, conceivably, that could be your problem.

Other than that, I'm sure someone else will pop in on this thread, as I am far from an expert in this area.

I just downloaded Dautley's link but the filename is blur vision 905...is that the right file for the ics 232 leak?

just to ask but you did not unzip the file? the update should be left as a zip.

All done, wow, very different. The phone is a little sluggish but I'm assuming it has to get used to it. Let's hope the data drops are gone

i have the same data issues as most of you...they have me on a razr with ics now and same situation but actually worse.

i firmly believe there is a REAL problem and I believe just as much they have NO CLUE how to fix it.

So you're having the same data drop issues on Razr as there is on Bionic?

I had some minor problems when I was on .901, and then it got better with .902. When the .904 leak was found, I jumped on it, and things got a lot better.

I then went back to .902 to take the .905 update - and my area got 4G that same week. I started having intermittent problems, sometimes it was good and sometimes it was not. It didn't help that I was running CM9 Unofficial via SafeStrap on top of the .905 build, either.

When the first ICS leak came out, I missed it but a few hours later .2233 came out and I jumped on it. My connectivity since has been getting better and better and better.

I'm now on .235, the one you cannot go back to GB with, and I'm very happy with my connectivity.

If I were you, I'd go to .232, b/c you can easily go back to .905 to take the final ICS OTA when it is released, and see how the connectivity is on that .232 build.

So you're having the same data drop issues on Razr as there is on Bionic?

yes, with the bionic tho i would just loose data (blue icons go white and no connection) but it would remain in 4g mostly.

with the razr the bars dance, 3g to 4g and back again, then no 3g or 4g and bars only.

Verizons final response on my issue is there IS NO DATA ISSUE PERIOD. They now want to claim I live in a fluctuating signal area. I live .46 miles from the 4g tower. If my neighbors house wasnt there I would be able to see the tower.

They have offered to cancel the contracts with no fees (even tho they say there is no problem...interesting)

They say there are no complaints of data issues on either the bionic or the razr and system updates should not of affected my signal(because i said it worked good on .902 but then went to shit on .905) . LOL

Verizon does not care about this issue. They will not listen to reason. Customer service reps are ONLY there to listen to your complaints and make you think that they care and that they are actually doing something.

That seems to be the policy stance. However, i still say apply the .232 ICS leak. You will finally see how this device is supposed to run.

And you don't need to root to do it, so, again, there is no contract violation.

my gf is still on the bionic. i asked if she mined me playin with her phone...ill give that leak a try. if it works im going to make a video of the two phones side by side so i have concrete proof of the issue.

i think we should make a class action lawsuit personally but I seem to be the only pissed off enough about them taking 100% of my money and not giving me but 60% of what I pay for. And not to mention how much personal time ive lost talking to them on the phone...and even as i write this my phone has no data connection.

I'm not too thrilled with verizon either--they tend to act as though any problem is "oh gee, that's the first I've heard of THAT issue!!!" when in fact the problems are widespread. I'm on my third Bionic and still have intermittent issues with connectivity that fluctuate from excellent to piss-poor throughout the day. I can stay connected for hours, and then suddenly it won't stay on 4G (blue) for more than a few seconds at a time, while my wife's phone is solid blue. However...a couple of times in the past week she showed me her phone losing 4G--I was shocked! LOL! I really think this technology just isn't quite ready for prime time and perhaps newer phones with newer radios and better s/w will be more stable?? sigh.

I will experience the 4g drop as well after leaving my Bionic on for a long time. But I cannot tell that it has gone to that state of mind until I start to use an app the triggers for data connection. I have also notice that after I have confirmed that I my phone in that data dropping condition that when I go into app manager and look at currently running app that I have two Google maps apps running when you would think there would be one icon with sub icons stating that it is being used by more than one app. Maybe there is a glitch between the gps and data on the phone since the .905 update? Just putting my .02 cents into the pot for my experience with this issue. I just wish I did not have to pull the airplane mode glitch to get it working right again. It gets so frustrating.

Like I said. ICS fixes almost all of those glitches.

sorry john, thats just not true in all cases.

i put the bionic on the leaked ICS as you suggested. Same issues.

So thats a leaked version of ICS on a bionic and a razr with official ICS...same issues on both phones.

I had one single CSR that mentioned she had heard of connection issues with some people that are too close to the tower. has anyone else heard this?

Never heard of that one before. I've heard of too far but not too close but I don't claim to know everything about Cell towers. :p

Have you exchanged sim cards yet? If you haven't I try that route.
