Root [ROM] Nov-13 MeanROM ICS v6.3 | 2.13.651.1 | Mods | Batt saver | OC 1.7 Ghz

Thanks Skid,

I guess that there is no removing it from some of the apps(example: stock browser where it shows up next to the URL)? This isn't a big deal at all but I figured since I had a dedicated button that I could reclaim screen real estate and clean things up a bit.

Chris.

My apologies Chris. I thought you were talking about the three dots on the bottom of the screen. I don't think you can eliminate the ones on top.

How is the default browser working for you? Mine is a bit laggy. Although I guess that could just be xda issue.
Wish I could find a browser that offers inverted colors. Can't deal with black font on white background.

Take care,
Skid

It's Ok ( a bit slow),

I have tried Boat, Firefox, and Chrome, and the one reason I stay with the stock browser is the fact that it re formats the text when zooming.

V2.1 now. Hard to keep up with this one, it's updated so frequently. Really responsive Dev!!! My daily driver....for now!
I know,

I have been using his ROMs from .6 and really like them. I haven't updated to v2.1 yet because I saw:

Made the Mirror app visible (requires full wipe)

first, what is the mirror app, and if I don't need the app to be visible do I need to do a full wipe to install v2.1?
Thanks Chris.

The mirror app uses the front facing camera to work like a mirror. I guess some need to do a full wipe to get it to work. I didn't. No wipe and it works just fine.

So I just noticed over on the MeanROM XDA site that you can flash the SMS and MMS over wifi, but I can't figure out how to do that, can anyone let me know how?

Thanks

Battery life on pretty much every version has been great, including 2.1. With my OG Evo I would constantly be looking for an outlet and *****ing out. Now I go, "I suppose I should plug it in" then I eventually get around to plugging it in in about a half hour.

I don't worry about having enough battery anymore. It's so nice.

I'm on 2.1 and have flashed every version since 1.6(?). I've had pretty much zero issues period, my apps update as usual. If your having issues, consider doing a hard reset. I've flashed dirty since the first flash of this rom, but I'm always prepared to wipe should things go wrong.

Battery life is good with this rom, but I think unless you're using the bat saver script it's not much different than stock. Looking at the changes the dev has made, I wouldn't expect much change. I've noticed with many (most) roms I've used over the years on various phones that someone always posts in the dev thread about the great battery life they're getting. There's also someone posting about how that rom killed their battery life. Most roms affect battery life very little, but perception is everything. Kernels are another issue!

Agreed. ;)

Same rom, different user setup / useage style = different battery results.

Also Signal strength plays a huge role on this phone, believe me. If there is no signal, it lasts like you had good signal, seriously. But if there is a whisper of signal, and it keeps dropping in and out of service it destroys the battery. I've been dead in 9 hours on this phone with spotty service all day at work.

PS: Good to have you on board Pasta, I wans't aware you'd picked up the El TEvo. :)

Yeah, flashed to 2.2 but it does stretch the meaning of a version update a bit. The battery icon changed, but that's easy to do on your own and some core apps were updated...which can also be updated via the play store. Still the rom to have for this phone at the moment, IMHO.

Noob questions here. First does anyone know if you can sort text messages by time/date in this ROM? I sometime get text messages late but it doesn't post them in order of time, but when my phone receives them. I was hoping i could just sort them but the sort menu option is only in the main messaging window and not in the actual contact window. Does that make sense?

Second, i've never rooted a phone and would really like to try this ROM out. What is the best way to root, get s-off and load this ROM. I think i heard there is a way to install this ROM (or any ROM) that when there was an update, you just had to click apply or something similar and the phone would restart and apply the update. Is this something real or did i hear it wrong?

Sorry if this isn't the best place to post this. Thanks so much in advance!

Not currently on this rom, so I can't test the messaging feature.

If you haven't accepted the OTA (I hope you haven't. If you are rooted or planning on rooting never accept an ota), then you want to get s-off using LazyPanda. If you took the OTA the only rooting method available to you is htcdev, which unlocks the bootloader and doesn't give you full s-off status. HTC dev will also wipe all data on the phone while s-off will not.

Yes, i accepted the OTA. I hadn't heard of the MeanRom at that point and wanted my google wallet to work. Plus i was having some WiFi issues and wanted the updates. I had heard and looked into using htcdev but i didn't know it doesn't give you full s-off. Is there going to be a way to get full s-off in the future? And soon?

Wiping all my data on the phone doesn't bother me as i was planing on doing it to start with a clean slate...as much of a pain in the ass it is to setup everything all over again. But i figured if i did a full wipe and rooted, i could make an nandroid backup image and never have to setup my phone all over again.

But i've been doing some more reading and came across TWRP2.2 and Goo Manager and i'm very confused now. I guess i don't know what order i need to do everything in. There are so many options out there, i guess i'm just looking for someone to just point me in the right direction. I don't want to be installing older programs when there may be newer/easier/better options out there. I've came aross threads on these seprate topics but again, i don't know if there are newer/better options out there and in what order to install them.

Thanks!

An unlocked bootlaoder has certain restrictions that people with full S-OFF dont. For example, if you took the OTA, you can no longer flash radios, splashscreens, or kernels from recovery, and you cannot flash things via H-boot.

There are workarounds for the kernel, but they can be a pain.

S-off gives you complete control of your device. There is no current method for the new H-boot and while devs are working on it you never know when or if its ever going to happen.
