Root ***OverCLOCKING (Let's clear some things up)

So I'm not saying that this will make your phone not "randomly" reboot or anything...

But, I've noticed that ever since Req's OC Kernel was released that people think that Setting MIN/MAX to 900 or 850 is the proper way to overclock, and since everyone's phone is different, you need to play with settings, and governors.

Now, honestly Overclocking a phone, and Overclocking a PC are different... BUT the same "Idea" is used. Overclocking on a PC raises the Multiplier of the FSB (Front Side Bus) to raise the potential of raising the performance of a CPU, with that being said, when you OC a PC, you don't set the clock at a constant rate, because it can cause overheating, voltage problems, and random reboots.

Same with a phone... Those who say they tried to OC and set the clock to 900/900 MIN/MAX and tried to have a stable phone (and failed), aren't OC the right way (Not that there is a right way but that is not the safest or most stable way). Every phone handles OC differently, so the OC may not honestly work AT ALL. That's understandable... But you might still be able to achieve OC by using On Demand or Conservative Governor setting the MIN low, and the MAX high can help your phone stay stable, while not risking reboots or overheating.

My phone is currently at 320Mhz/MIN and 900Mhz/MAX with the conservative governor, and I DON'T experience overheating or reboots.

Everyone's CPU can act differently, but you can find something that can work without sacrificing performance. ^___^

I know I typed a lot, but I thought I should clear that up ;D

This doesn't mean OC will work if it never did, but this should be a better alternative.

keep my phone on 900/900 performance, i guess i'm lucky for a phone that can handle this with no side effects
900/900?? you have side effects or the governor is overriding that min setting. ;)

900/900 your battery wouldnt last for shyt ;)

But like Retro said phones oc is controlled by the kernel where as PC's its normally set in the BIOS on motherboards that allow it (OEM's usually dont support oc'ing).

With our phones in the kernel source has the clock speeds hard coded in. Some devices have higher clock settings in their src but are set to use a lower speed, like my DroidX which a module can be installed to oc it.

I do 900 performance, but I have an extended 3500 mAh battery so I don't fly though mine, I get about 18 hours on 900
32 if I set it on 800
56 if I set it on 450 or whatever that level is before that.

Mind posting your batterystats.bin file? I've also got a 3400mAh battery, but do not get those numbers.

I keep it on 900 max & min no reboot or anything, I think I could get 8 hours without music or data so you're right but i'm never out for that long so its usually good

and you both use admires on metro that don;t got real 3g?

i must be doing something wrong. my moto2 droid isn't that good.
and i run liberty on that!

Where all running 3G -.- because theres no way in hell, that I can get 1.1Mbps on a 1x connection.
There's no way in hell you're running 3G, because MetroPCS doesn't offer that service. They run 1x through an EVDO modem to trick us all. The only way to get 3G is to be running off of a Sprint or Verizon tower.

Demented, I want you to think about what you just said. You can't trick a connection by running 1x on a EvDo modem. That's like saying I can connect to a 1Gbps connection with a 100base10 adapter and get 1Gbps speeds -.- and Metro does offer 3G at throttled speeds. Its not a suped up 3G connectionn because its unlimited... Maybe in your area you don't get a good connection because metro is slow to upgrade their towers.

I noticed a performance increase by using the OC kernel at 900mhz, but I fudged my phone by running it that fast while using GPS navigation and charging it at the same time, it was burning through the battery before it could charge it and I guess I messed up something in the port, still don't know. I used ot have to clear battery stats to get it to boot after taking out the battery but it doesn't do that anymore. It also used to think it was still charging when it was unplugged and when the battery would get low it would keep beeping saying it was charging/not charging.

Since then I knocked it down to 800/96, ondemand to keep it running cooler and make the battery last longer. I was always under the impression that the GPS antennae didn't work in aftermarket roms, but I had no problem with it in the past two months :)

im a long distance runner and i use mapmyrun and it says my GPS has/uses a very weak server

If you are on Metro PCS, that could be the problem, Metro service is very shawdy. I use nTelos on my Admire and though it takes a few minutes to locate me, my GPS seems to work good enough to get me across country, lol.
