First off, NKT want to thank you for all the info you have given on the incredible, been lurking here for quite awhile and loved everything.
In regards to this though, your response doesn't make sense to me. The question is why wouldn't they allow Skype by Wifi and you say it wasn't done arbitrarily and post that quote. That quote is in regards to why they did not allow Skype to go by data over the 3g network (note the "re-evaluated for LTE" part). That makes perfect sense, don't flood the 3g network with data, when you can use the voice network to do the same job. However, I am with others in not understanding why they wouldn't allow it via Wifi connection as that seems the actual best usage of Skype, especially overseas for phones that are not world capable. Am I misunderstanding something?
First, you need to realize how much shit he's taken over this box all because he simply wanted to try to get us some information.
Second, he doesn't owe you or any of us ANYTHING. You think he can just go into that Verizon store, go in the back and start snapping pictures? Even if he could, it would just be a picture of a freaking box! They can't open it, and if the box looked tampered with or opened in any way, his friend would lose his job. Do YOU want to lose YOUR job right now? I know people who have been unemployed for over a year.
Third, back off. He's one of our good friends in here, he's an honest person, he's just trying to help, and we stand by our contributing, dedicated veteran members. The. End.

Doesn't matter. All Obi said was that the box is a lie which I took to be a play off of Portal. That sure as hell doesn't deserve a "**** off and die" that he got.

Skype on verizon IS going over their 3G network. Only for non skype calls does it not use the 3G network. I think NKT already commented on packets lossed and voice quality issues for using it over wifi (at least in response to someone else).

Alright, getting off topic here so I will close with this, but I fail to see how I would have any different experience using Skype via wifi on a phone than I would using Skype via wifi on my laptap.
Considering it's only going to be sold on google.com/phone and not in Verizon stores I'm gonna go with no.

If you use Skype over the Wifi, then yo aren't consuming 3g data and thus Verizon can't bill you for data usage. I have no idea what the phone plans are, but if I were selling 3g plans, I would want to have my customers use as much 3g as possible, to put more $$ in my pockets. Verizon can't make a penny off of your WiFi use, as far as I know.
Wow, just wow. I guess sense of humor diminishes when all of your hopes and dreams have been crushed by the one entity that you look to for hope. So you have put all your hopes into a mythical box and the one anonymous individual who has seen this box. If someone jokes about your last hope, that person must be crucified for his sins. Wow, people, grow up.
I want the phone as much as anyone here, but it would not be the end of existence if it didn't come out. There is life outside of this forum, and you guys are getting to be worse than the iPhone ******s out there.
I don't know their specific reason for not allowing it via WiFi. Since it's obviously a feature Skype supports, there must have been a very compelling reason no to.
I think people are blowing the WiFi issue out of proportion. This is not the first time a carrier as changed the way an application works on their network and it won't be the last. So you can't do native WiFi calls, does it really matter? If it really does, there are other applications that will allow you to do that. Would it be nice to have an all in one solution? Sure. But it's not... right now.
