First off, NKT want to thank you for all the info you have given on the incredible, been lurking here for quite awhile and loved everything.

In regards to this though, your response doesn't make sense to me. The question is why wouldn't they allow Skype by Wifi and you say it wasn't done arbitrarily and post that quote. That quote is in regards to why they did not allow Skype to go by data over the 3g network (note the "re-evaluated for LTE" part). That makes perfect sense, don't flood the 3g network with data, when you can use the voice network to do the same job. However, I am with others in not understanding why they wouldn't allow it via Wifi connection as that seems the actual best usage of Skype, especially overseas for phones that are not world capable. Am I misunderstanding something?

Skype on verizon IS going over their 3G network. Only for non skype calls does it not use the 3G network. I think NKT already commented on packets lossed and voice quality issues for using it over wifi (at least in response to someone else).

First, you need to realize how much shit he's taken over this box all because he simply wanted to try to get us some information.

Second, he doesn't owe you or any of us ANYTHING. You think he can just go into that Verizon store, go in the back and start snapping pictures? Even if he could, it would just be a picture of a freaking box! They can't open it, and if the box looked tampered with or opened in any way, his friend would lose his job. Do YOU want to lose YOUR job right now? I know people who have been unemployed for over a year.

Third, back off. He's one of our good friends in here, he's an honest person, he's just trying to help, and we stand by our contributing, dedicated veteran members. The. End.

Doesn't matter. All Obi said was that the box is a lie which I took to be a play off of Portal. That sure as hell doesn't deserve a "**** off and die" that he got.

yeah!

The reason Montana reacted the way he did is because he's been harrased, ridiculed and basically told the same things for the past few days. He's told me some of the things that have been sent to him privately. The guy is worn out over this box, and he shouldn't be being treated like he has been. I know a liar and a troll when I see one, and trust me, Montana is FAR from one. People just need to let the box go, and if you mention it, just mention it as a "have you heard anything" kind of post. Not a "the box is a lie" post. Because, to Montana, that basically looks like you're calling him a liar, and he's not one.

Edit: I don't know what Portal is. A movie, perhaps? I watch a TON of movies and I don't even get the reference. So, I'm sure someone who lives in the mountains of Montana probably doesn't and didn't get the reference either. "The box is a lie" is a pretty vague quote. It'd be like if I said "I hate you, you're a liar." And then someone got mad, and I said, no...that's just a quote from Fight Club. Ya know?

I don't know their specific reason for not allowing it via WiFi. Since it's obviously a feature Skype supports, there must have been a very compelling reason no to.

I think people are blowing the WiFi issue out of proportion. This is not the first time a carrier as changed the way an application works on their network and it won't be the last. So you can't do native WiFi calls, does it really matter? If it really does, there are other applications that will allow you to do that. Would it be nice to have an all in one solution? Sure. But it's not... right now.

Is everyone noticing how on all of the big tech blogs, whenever there's a post on Verizon or even just Android, all of the commenters are blowing Verizon up for not releasing the Incredible or N1? They're hating on the 6-month-old poster child that is the Droid.

The unrest among the villagers is really building.

Alright, getting off topic here so I will close with this, but I fail to see how I would have any different experience using Skype via wifi on a phone than I would using Skype via wifi on my laptap.

If you use Skype over the Wifi, then yo aren't consuming 3g data and thus Verizon can't bill you for data usage. I have no idea what the phone plans are, but if I were selling 3g plans, I would want to have my customers use as much 3g as possible, to put more $$ in my pockets. Verizon can't make a penny off of your WiFi use, as far as I know.

Wow, just wow. I guess sense of humor diminishes when all of your hopes and dreams have been crushed by the one entity that you look to for hope. So you have put all your hopes into a mythical box and the one anonymous individual who has seen this box. If someone jokes about your last hope, that person must be crucified for his sins. Wow, people, grow up.

I want the phone as much as anyone here, but it would not be the end of existence if it didn't come out. There is life outside of this forum, and you guys are getting to be worse than the iPhone ******s out there.

Yeah they are only using 3g for Skype. But to say its because of wifi and low quality calls is total BS. Verizon is protecting their profits and thats the bottom line. If you could use Skype over wifi you don't need a data plan to use it ... you could just buy an unlocked device load up skype and call. I have a Skype account that lets me make calls to actual phones and I do it over wifi and 3g all the time on my netbook .... with video .... what gives.

your arm wont get tired holding a phone up to your ear while you talk ;)

True enough BUT when you buy an UNLIMITED data package for $30/mo. they get your $30 if you use it or don't. I'm with those that don't get it. But maybe that's just me. They don't get a cent more if I use Skype or don't.

If you have an Android phone, then you already have a data plan. Using Skype doesn't cost you anything on your plan. The only cost is incurred by making Skype to non-Skype calls.

You were obviously trying to be funny with your "the box is a lie" quote. I guess it was from a movie? Well, guess what? Mykpfsu is the ONLY person who got the reference. You can't expect everyone to get a movie reference, or whatever the quote is from, when it's that vague of a quote. Chill out, and trust me, comparing us to iPhone fanboys is NOT a good way at all to make friends in here. As a matter of fact, I would predict you're about to get flamed BIGTIME.

Edit: Even harder to get are video game references.

Thanks and yes I agree, just the lack of that seems to neuter the usefulness. Maybe I am just too jaded as others here after having been with Verizon for so long and having lived through their phase of disabling the most useful features of phones.

Again, thanks for all the info you provide, it is much appreciated. We now return you to the regularly scheduled programming of "Box Talk." ;)
