Help Unable to install Verizon Update IMM76K for weeks and install new sideloaded Wallet.apk

I have a verizon gnex, rooted, unlocked bootloader and not running any custom roms. I am also on the standard recovery, ie. I have not installed clockwork recovery.

I have two issues:

1. I have been getting the system update message for several weeks now and when I click to install it boots into recovery and attempts to install. After about 30% it fails and I get the exclamation point in a red triangle. The phone then reboots to the old OS version after a minute, no loss, but no update. The message reappears every week and I want it to work.

My question is should I lock the bootloader and unroot? Does this matter? I have attempted to research this problem but I have not found any similiar issues and resolution.

2. Another item, maybe related, is that I attempted to side load the new Google Wallet apk that was posted on Phandroid, but during install I get a message that "X Application not installed" and I'm only able to choose "Done". Again this seems to be unique to me as I have been unable to find any threads with this happening to others. I do have a prior version of Wallet that I have had installed on my phone. I did remove the older version of Wallet prior to installing the new version.

Any help with these two items would be greatly appreciated.

No, I really never did anything. Only used root to use wifi-tether, root explorer, and super user. I did install rom manager but I never installed a rom and I believe that I never installed clockwork recovery. Is there a way for me to confirm other than going into recovery using the manual method and not seeing clockwork recovery anywhere?

I'm stumped and think I need to try and just unroot and lock bootloader, but I don't think that is the issue.

You can use Scary Alien's Root Toolkit app to identify your current recovery. If it's stock, it'll show up as such:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sa.root.toolkit&hl=en

If you do in fact have the stock recovery and since you're not running custom roms, I think I'd start with a factory reset. If there were any system files modified (Wallet install may have contributed to this), this should be reversed with a reset.

Using the app you recommended I have confirmed I am on stock recovery. I will take your advise and complete a factory reset. I was hoping to not have to do that, but I was also thinking that it may solve my issues. Now I need to backup my apps and system data and try the system recovery.

I'll update if it works.

Bad news, unfortunately the factory reset did not work. I performed the reset using the backup & reset option in the settings menu. After resetting the phone tried to install the OS update and failed. I then tried to do a manual recovery to do another factory reset using that method and I found out that I was unable to get into the recover menu and I got the familiar android bot with an exclamation point in a red triangle. The phone eventually rebooted. It looks like there may be an issue with the phone booting in to recovery mode. I have again confirmed that I am running the stock rom using Scary Aliens Root Toolkit. My recovery is:

Recovery description:
CDMA/LTE toro stock 4.0.2

Filename:
Stock-402-lte-vzw-cdma-recovery.img

Is there a way to manually update or fix this file if it is somehow corrupted?

Can anyone please help!

EDIT

I just flashed the same recovery file using the Scary Alien Root Toolkit option to flash a recovery and it did not solve my issue. When I tried to go into recovery again the same issue occurred.

This is quite common I'm afraid. Somewhere along the line, something was changed and its nearly impossible to track down. So in my opinion you have a few options. One is to flash a custom recovery and enter the rom scene where you can get a rom that is identical to stock and roms that have more options than stock provides.

If not, you will need to return to true stock either by using a root kit that has that option built into it or by using the SDK along with these instructs:

And honestly, if you go that route, you can fastboot flash the files for 4.0.3 so you wouldn't even get the ota afterward since you'd already be on 4.0.3.

I'm trying to follow the steps provided in the link you provided, but I am stuck at the point where it says:

view the contents of the flash-all.sh script (this will be the template for the commands you'll enter)

I'm not sure how to view the contents of the flash-all.sh script.

Can you help with this as well. Many thanks for all your help.

EDIT
I was actually able to figure this one out after banging my head for some time. There was an example of the script attached to the bottom of the page. I could not use the example but used notepad to view the contents of the file and organized it following the example provided.
