Root [Avail] No Need for New Rom for space or performance

i've not done anything special to my phone [zte merit z990g] other than root it and remove a few apps from it

there is no need for any new rom or anything else in order to have top performance and storage space

i have 24 user apps installed and still have 93mb of space free

and at 48 hours without charge and 24 hours of uptime, when phone is at idle uses less than 100mb of RAM

i can't figure out why any of you would want to mess with your phones and install some homecooked rom for no noticeable gains in space or performance...

these have all been removed from the /system/app folder [with no errors of any kind] and then the cache was wiped after all the apps i didn't want were removed. i also removed all apps that were in the /data/app folder that corresponded to these other apps that were removed.

another thing is that i have 12 of my 26 user apps installed to SD card [only apps that are not system related--things like autostarts and other system related apps are run from the phone]

another thing to do is delete an app when it needs an update and then go download the newest app version instead of always installing updates. this will save you a ton of space. it's not at all complicated...

I'd highly suggest using titanium backup to freeze an app before determining if it's okay to delete.

Also, custom roms provide performance tweaks/increases that the stock Rom just doesn't have

You lose app data doing that, that's why it saves space.

and this is just nonsense.

all the apps i've listed are perfectly safe to remove. otherwise i wouldn't have posted them.

and there is no custom rom for this phone worth downloading for VERY minimal gains.

and it appears not to be the most stable from what i've read here.

best to do what i have done. no problems. plenty of space. plenty of speed.

and as far as your comment about losing app data when deleting apps and updating to the newest one, that isn't the only reason for the gain. when you update and app, some apps will have two different app versions installed on the phone when you only need the most current one. it's not all app data.

Although you have some good tips here you really shouldnt bash the roms. Very disrespectful to the developers that worked hard on them. People root and install roms simply because they can. Android was built to be a development platform as much as it was to be a simple functional OS for the device of your choice.

Aside from that i dont see how you can make it 48 hours without charging on stock rom unless you just dont use it. Mine can barely make it 24 hours on stock. Ive turned off most background services and even keep my brightness turned all the way down. The custom roms had a few bugs that were not very serious at all, but i got much better battery life on all besides one.one and saw some very noticeable improvements in the speed of the phone.

I didn't bash the roms, all i said was that there was no need for them, especially if they are not as fully working and trustworthy as the stock rom.

I use my phone quite a bit each and every day. i use it just as much as anyone else does, sometimes more than most because in the evening it is my only web connection, and i do get 48 hours discharge on average before i have to put another charge to it. i reboot it once every 24 hours, and i always kill apps after i get done using them. my battery life is better than any rom will ever be able to do simply because i'm anal about using my machine. it's just that simple. just because yours can't do it on stock doesn't mean mine can't. in fact it does make it to 48 hours more than it makes it less than that...

my battery life is better than any rom will ever be able to

I call BS. You get that much battery usage because of how you use it, and your habits. One would be able to do those very same habits on a third party ROM and get the same results you do. Actually more, if the new ROM is better optimized. Besides, you have no idea of what a genius programmer can come up with in a future ROM.

Keep it cool, people. The easiest way to start an argument and get a thread shut down is to start assuming what someone did or didn't mean in a post. If you are unsure, ask politely. If you think a statement is out of line, report it.

Everyone is entitled to express an opinion and you are free to disagree as long as you do it respectfully and stick to the topic. If it's clear you are at different ends of the universe on a subject, then agree to disagree and move on. :D
