Root Post-flash issues, Cyanogenmod 7.2, 1: Android ID change

I just installed Cyanogenmod 7.2 on my Evo.

I just opened Titanium Backup Pro to check something, and got this message:

WARNING: This device's Android ID has changed...This normally happens after a device replacement or factory reset. The Android ID is the most common way for apps to identify the device. Any app that relies on it for security/licensing purposes may stop working (or need to be reconfigured) unless you restore the previous Android ID now.

Is there any reason *not* to restore the previous Android ID?

I just flashed Cyanogenmod 7.2 onto my Evo.

After flashing CM, I used Titanium Backup Pro to "Restore missing apps + all system data." That may or may not be a factor in several issues I now have.

1 - my home key doesn't work. When I am on the homescreen, a long press of the home key no longer brings up a list of recently used apps. When I am using an app, the home key does not return me to the homescreen - I must use the back arrow key to back out of the app. This change did not happen immediately after flashing CM. I don't know what else might have caused it.

2 - my phone doesn't ring. Calls go directly to my Sprint voicemail.

3 - After Sprint voicemail intercepts a call, it sends a text, like this: (phone number) has sent you a Sprint Voice Message. Call 408-970-0000 to listen.

When I call the Sprint VM number, this recorded message plays: "Our records indicate that you are calling from an SMS voice messaging equipped handset. If you have recently purchased a new handset that does not contain this feature, press 1. Otherwise, press 2."

I press 2 because I haven't recently purchased a new handset, and this message plays: "Thank you. Your messages will continue to be sent to your handset. Thank you for calling." Then it hangs up, and I still haven't heard my message.

I can retrieve voicemails via the voicemail key on the dialpad, so this issue, like #1, is merely annoying. But issue #2 is disabling. I need to be able to answer my phone.

Might some (or all) of this be related to the issue I just posted about, the change in my Android ID?

In any case, does anyone have any suggestions/instructions for fixing these issues?

TIA...

I had that exact same message when I flashed to Decks Reloaded from Mikg.
I did not restore the previous ID...BUT, thats what I did and no issues.
:)
I had no idea what is was and decided to chance it.:o

What rom were you coming from?
I usually just restore apps only, no data, and in small batches. User apps, not system apps...never restore system apps imo. I dont even mess with system apps.
Perhaps reflash rom... and wipe before, 3 times, except sd card......dont wipe sd card (I'm sure you know that but..):).
Knowing very little about CM, are there any gapps you need to flash also??

Mikestony, now that you ask, "What rom were you coming from?" - I'm not sure. I thought that I was updating from CM6, but not that I have CM7, I suspect that I never installed CM6 at all - my phone always had the HTC Sense UI until this weekend.

Titanium Backup Pro does not offer me the ability to restore only user apps, except for "Restore newer versions of user apps." Otherwise, it refers to "missing apps with data," or "missing apps + all system data" (the option I chose) or "all apps with data."

The prospect of wiping my phone again (3 times) and flashing CM7 again makes me think that I may be better off going back to the stock ROM (while remaining rooted). I can't afford experiments that cost me the ability to receive phones calls.

Sorry for the late reply...very busy tonite here at home....
The pro version of titanium backup allows you to "batch restore" apps, be it system apps (not recommended), or user apps or user apps and data.
You can always flash a well known, smooth rom such as MikG 3.11.
When I say wipe 3 times, I refer to the recovery operation done before a rom flash.
:)

Hey Mike,

Was curious about this same thing with TB Pro, just checked and the restore of "user apps does not appear to be an option, in the restore option as it is in the backup option. hopefully I am missing something???

I have the following choices:

Restore missing apps with data (is this the one???)
Restore all system data
Restore missing apps + all system data
Restore newer versions of user apps
Restore all apps with data

Never restore system data. That causes major headaches. I learned the hard way when i first started rooting/flashing roms.

Thanks for the response, but I'm afraid that flashing another custom ROM might introduce new problems without solving the problems that I already have. So for now at least, it's back to stock for me.

I am now downloading Capt Throwback's Stock ROM, which was recommended in another thread: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/586822-need-return-stock.html

Yeah, that's a good idea going to a stock rom. Hopefully, the issues will disappear but it's better to go back to stock and see.

Click on the restore all apps with data, hit run, deselect all, then what I do is click app only, then maually select the apps I want to restore, then hit run.

Okay, I just flashed Capt Throwback's Stock ROM, using Clockworkmod Recovery. My screen says, "Install from sdcard complete." Should my phone automatically reboot, or are there steps I need to take?

EDIT: Never mind! Figured it out/remembered

Okay, that makes sense, so unfortunately then, there is not an option for user apps only to restore in a batch. I do like this way better, gives the user total control, just a bit more time consuming.

FYI, never ever restore system apps with Titanium backup. It will likely cause you nothing but problems. Anything that is green font is good to go, but anything in red, stay away.

Also, if you're going to restore apps and data, it can be dicey with backups made on gingerbread and transferring them to ICS or JB. Worst case scenario, you can uninstall and then reinstall clean from the market. Just something to keep an eye on.

Can you clear something up for me?
When I see green, and pull up the legend that describes what colors are etc, it says green is system service with useful data such as the stock launcher.
And the text in white are user apps.
And the red, like you said, are system apps or system service.

Sorry, I had to bump this thread but I would really like to know the answer to the color I.D. in TB
My user apps are listed in white, not green.
Green indicates system service with useful data.????
I understand red---no mess wit dat.

yeah the green is also system apps as well. i would also not back those up or restore them as well. they will also most likely interfere with any new rom.

o.k...with that being said, and I know you and Mizzou know ALOT more than I do, it seems as tho both your comment contradict each other:confused:
Or, perhaps I am the one who is misunderstanding--which is very well possible:)
Green is ok.? or green is not ok?

it just depends. you want to restore things that the current does not have. sometimes replacing the alarm(which in my current rom is green) or my contacts(the same) could interfere with the rom i have and may cause issues. i have tried this in the past with fc's so i usually only restore user apps and data. on some roms it might not be a big deal and it will work fine. however, i really do not see a need to back up and restore them anyways as most of that stuff is really not needed.

So I guess the safe bet is to not mess with green or red, just the white either with or without data and I can live with that.
Thanks Ocn!:D
