Help Got my GNex wet...

So I'm a bit of a dilemma. The other day I tossed my Nexus in a gym bag with a water bottle that apparently didn't have the cap screwed on very tight. One car ride later, the phone was soaked. The phone was still on but wasn't connecting to cellular networks. I shut everything down, put it in rice, and wait for everything to dry. After leaving it overnight, the phone was completely dry and seemed to work fine. However I quickly ran into issues. First of all, the phone does not appear to charge when turned on. It seems to charge when completely powered off however. That being said, the battery got down to 5% today so I plugged it in and the phone didn't die. Some juice must be getting through. There's no indication of this onscreen however. Secondly, no matter how long I leave it on the charger, the battery does not seem to fill all the way. And lastly, the Nexus will not connect to my pc. When hooked up via USB, its as if nothing is plugged into the port.

What to do? Any suggestions? I was hoping it might be as easy as getting a new battery, but after discovering the phone won't connect to my PC, I'm thinking it may be a problem with the mini usb port on the Nexus.

sounds bad but it could be your battery malfunctioning (f you're lucky) find another gnex owner and test or get a cheapy on ebay to test.

Do you have insurance?

Unfortunately no. At the time, 5 bucks a month seemed like a waste. Now I'm kinda wishing I'd gone that route.

I was thinking about bringing it into a Verizon store and seeing if they could do anything. Only catch is, I've got a custom rom on it. Not sure if that would be an issue.

Bringing in a rooted phone can be hit or miss. If it's non or just partially functional, they may not care whether it's rooted or even notice.

I hear you about the insurance. I've paid it on smartphones for about 4 years. Don't even want to know how much money I've dumped but it gives me a peace of mind.

I may be wrong, but I think as long as the phone powers on and functions (which you said it does), you can always add insurance. Does anyone know for sure?

The phone should be under warranty for one year without insurance.

I would call VZW and find out. But do not tell them it was watered down. Just play dumb and tell them it stopped charging the battery.

Nope. I tried it for my verizon GN. Their website gave me the finger.
Some credit cards protect your purchases. Amex gives you 90 days of total coverage: theft, accidental damage etc.

They also double the manufacturers warranty, up to one extra year. Thats why I used my amex to buy the phone.

A good idea, as it's very likely that water damage will be spotted. Unless you drink de-ionised distilled water some trace contamination of the PCB is inevitable. This could lead to some awkward questions. ;)

Doesn't it have the water paper stuff to indicate that the phone got wet? Can't remember
