what do you mean by latest??...the actual "stock" official stuff...or the "updated" stuff that started coming on some phones from stores but has not been pushed as an OTA yet?

I know exactly what you mean.

When I flashed root66, it reverted my out-of-the-box kernel, ROM, modem from G1 to F2 (D'OH!). It took a while to find but here is what you are looking for:

NOTE: Both times I flashed his ROM (not the kernel), I got the "custom" unlock logo tripwire at power-on

As far as my comment about the forum, I was just noting that nobody seems to be maintaining the sticky root guide thread.

I tried GooManager once and it bombed, so I'm avoiding it. I don't know if the kernel would work but the modem is an ODIN file.

Honestly, I think it would take longer to use GooManager than the ADB commands for the kernel.

I felt the same way about the guide but having been researching on my own I can see why...the information is pretty cumbersome to get and still requires experience/experimentation to put to practical use. I'm hoping to submit something useful this week.

Just to be sure, there's no prep required to flash the radios or kernel, like wiping something. Just Odin the radio and adb push the kernel, right over the stock kernel?

Also, does anyone know if a nandroid will keep it's kernel? I've only ever flashed kernels in recovery before this phone.

I'm pretty sure its the "boot" partition, an option selectable in TWRP2.2
