Root [Guide] How to root the Wildfire S with S-ON

im on 3c and ive got all of it except on the cmd when i type in what it tells me on the HTCdev it doesnt work. it says <waiting for device> i dont know what that means.. am i typing something in wrong or what? :confused:
Make sure HTC Sync is not running at the background. Also, try a different USB port or different cable. If it still doesn't work, re-install the drivers on your computer.

I have done everything as you said but recovery wont start it is stuck on white htc logo screen.Is there any cure for that?
IF you are sure that you have done everything correclty, then it's a device problem and at the moment there is no solution. But people are working on it so be patient!

Hello, I'm new in android community (just got my WFS 2 months ago) I've tried to root my phone and followed the walkthrough, got my bootloader unlocked at HTCDEV (WFS is S-On)... But when I reached step 4A. Install ClockworkMod Recovery, I can't flash the image, cmd prompted cannot load the image file... Please help, I really wanted to expand the memory and try custom roms... thanks in advance.

@caro332 do you kean this?
2. Boot the phone into HBOOT. (You are a pro at this by now, right? ) After it scans for PG7610.zip, select FASTBOOT and press the power button then connect the USB cable. The word FASTBOOT will change into FASTBOOT USB. If not, then either your USB drivers for the Wildfire S or Android SDK Tools is not installed properly.
yes, there's FASTBOOT USB indicator on top of the BOOTLOADER text...

Yeah that's what I meant...
The other thing that comes into my mind is that maybe you didn't navigate properly to the place where the img file is ? Did you miss out any folder?

I created HTC folder in c: and that's where I put the img file... FYI, I also included fastboot.exe that I used in unlocking the bootloader. The reason for that is cmd cannot flash without the fastboot.exe... there's an error message that contains 'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

ps. do i need to insert the memory card during rooting?

Lord... and they kept telling me this was going to be easy...

Okay, I hope I'm just missing a step somewhere in this big jumble of steps. I seem to run afoul around the Bootloader Update, or is it called the ROM update... in the RUU thing. I have a Virgin Mobile Widfire S with model number PG76110, my phone is an A510a, purchased in Canada (Quebec, if it matters). I selected the Virgin Mobile RUU on the HTCDev website, but during the process I got this notice.

I then tried to do the MicroSD card trick. I couldn't find a folder called {82B23FCD-D5D0-45CA-A3A2-5350D3926551}, but I did find one titled {742909E7-11DB-4142-A24E-0231D2243542} that seemed to have android themed files in it, and it did have a rom_02.zip file. I renamed it like you said, and put it on the 2GB microSD card that came with my phone (everything else from the microSD was removed, only the ZIP was on it). I shut the device off, pulled and replaced the battery, popped the card in, and performed an HBoot. It tried to do it's thing, but it told me "No Image" and went back to a normal HBoot. I told him to shut down, pulled the SD card out, and tried to turn it back on.

For a while the screen stayed all black, even though I heard the startup music. After about 4 minutes the unlock screen finally appeared. I've never booted anything before and this initial failure has somewhat rattled me. What might I have done wrong?

Yes the SD card needs to be in the phone since the zip folder will be in there. If it wasn't when you tried it, that's probably the problem

Hi,
I have HTC Wildfire S with software version 2.26.720.3 installed. I am a Asia India user and this version for the software is not available at HTC Dev.com for Asia india user. My phone shows Locked in HBoot menu so I proceeded with step 3A, but when I am pasting my Token into the given space it results in Error. Can you please help me out with this

Thanks
Rahul

@rmardri- Did your phone showed "Locked" in HBoot menu if yes Please tell me didn't you face any issues when pasting your mobile token into HTC Dev.com site. I also have this phone specifications but when I pasted that token into the provided field it resulted in Error.

Make sure there is not space when you copy the token.

You can choose RUU Marvel HTC Asia WWE (World Wide Edition) ROM on HTCDev.com

Should not include the first line header on the token.(Probably that may be the mistake). Refer the instructions carefully on the help.

hi i rooted my device using the above steps(i was able to get into su using a terminal..)..but i was not able to get s-off on my device...now since i already have root access,is it necessary to get s-off...or does it not matter???
zamz2.jpg

Getting S-off is not required for you now, since you are already rooted!.
You need either the Bootloader unlocked or S-off to root a device.

@Caro332

No, neither unlocked or locked was shown. It just said S-on and some choices for FastBoot or some other stuff I didn't understand.

If you are rooted, then there is not need to gain s-off really.

@PTNLemay...THat's weird. I do know that Virgin Mobile tends to be difficult...There is some thread in AF somwhere about Virgin mobile phones...Make a search and see if you find anything

I inserted the sd card with the PG76IMG.zip, root zip and the custom rom that I'm gonna use installed in sd root... when I went to HBOOT CID incorrect appeared into the screen:( thought rooting is the most easiest step.....

1. Download the official 5.0.2.8 image at ClockworkMod

I've finally rooted my WFS :dancing: , I just erased the PG76IMG.zip in my sd and try to flash the CMW again and it worked!!! ;)... Thank you so much for all your help ;)

This guy had the same problem and that's how he fixed it:

Happy days :) all working fine now!! i was able to skipped the step where i was getting the CID error and go straight to uploading the root.zip, boot into recovery and run the root.zip to do the actual rooting. Great guide. now the comes the fun bit...

@PTNLemay
try a different RUU which has the same model number

Thanks each and every one of you for helping me out in this "Rooting" project.
Yesterday it only tooked me 15 mins to root my phone with your valuable suggestions. Its a dream that couldn't have been possible without your suggestions. Thanks a lot.

4. Now on to root the phone!
4A. Install ClockworkMod Recovery

4B. Download root.zip and put it on your SD card.

4C. Flash root.zip
Boot into HBOOT and go into Recovery. Then select install zip from sd card and choose zip from sd card. Then find the root.zip file downloaded above and install it.

I cant get past this, when i select recovery it reboots the phone normally, i just dont get what im doing wrong i have followed the steps word for word until this point and now i cant get anywhere else... im soooo close, but yet soooo far, please help! I am new to this but know how to follow instructions

The Link for step 4A doesnt work anymore. :confused:
Can anyone help me with this step?

Here you go annahh, I pullled this from my friend's phone a while back, hope it helps... flash it by turning on Android Debugging and pressing the .bat script I included in the zip file. Make sure you have a CDMA (one without a SIM card) if you do I'll get the right file for you.

CWMwildfiresCDMArecovery.img

put this bat file in the same place as the .img
