I want to update my Evo as its all stock except for being rooted. It's running Android 2.2Baseband 2.15.00.11.19Kernel 2.6.32.17.gee55Build 3.70.65.1.1cl294884Software 3.70.651.1Webkit 3.1PRL 60687I had a guy root it using Linux but I don't remember exactly how. I believe I read its possible to update to the new software version if its embedded into a rom? Honestly I like the stock rom so I would just to update the software without having to unroot the phone and re-root.. Soooo suggestions and help are appreciated.. Thanks

Root Update my Evo

Well, the first thing we need to find out is what your hboot screen says.
Make sure that you have disabled fastboot. On your phone, go to settings>apps>uncheck the fastboot option at the bottom.
Power down phone, wait a few seconds, then while holding volume down button, click on power button, which will bring you to your bootloader screen then let us know everything it says.
You can reboot from that screen as well.

All you will need to do is run titanium backup to backup your app data, reboot to recovery and make a nandroid backup, and then flash your rooted updated rom.

No menu for disable fastboot

Check in power settings. Its different depending on the ROM you are running (mikes on an AOSP rom, and youre on sense)
If its not there, skip the fastboot mumbo jumbo and just pull the battery, put it back in, and then hold power+volume down to get to h-boot
That'll do it too.
Actually, I pulled the settings/apps/uncheck fastboot thing from the beginning of ocn's guide here
On decks, I don't think there was that option to uncheck fastboot, and if I remember correctly, I could be wrong, on Mikg, it may not have been there either.
Do you think all custom roms don't have that fastboot option there?
Is it the default to have fastboot disabled?

The default is fastboot ON.
Many ROM developers will change this default to OFF for their ROMS.
