Thanks, I will go try that now ;-)

OK, I downloaded the .apk Skype file & installed it on my Eris using Astro.

Works like a dream! Thank you ....

Now, if only I could get SWYPE to work on the leak 2.1 .... get the darn screen res error!

which version do you have? There are 3 floating around:
the beta version
the lite 1.16 version
the lite 1.25 version

I installed the 1.25 version and it didn't work on my phone, so I uninstalled and then tried the 1.16 version and that one works like a charm :)

I heard the beta version expires after a month could be wrong though...

For virus removal I've had luck booting into Safe Mode with networking (F8) and going to a restore point. Then download Microsoft Security Essentials (from Microsoft.com!). Firefox with NoScript will block almost all these attacks.

Got a download link for the 1.16 version then? I tried Swype on the Droid at my VZW store and loved it.

I'm very hesitant on updating with this leaked 2.1...I've gone through the posts and obviously there are pros and cons i'm just undecided on what to do

maybe someone can persuade me one way or the other i duno:confused:

as long as your not holding out for root then do it. if its the OTA update you are waiting for just do it and im sure by the time the OTA comes out....months from now at least :/ ....the devs will have figured something out
1.5 sucks. i wouldnt go back. i would update just for the new marketplace alone

I actually contacted HTC to see what they would say. I cut out the fluff of their response, but this paragraph was interesting:

"Verizon Wireless has confirmed that the Verizon Wireless DROID ERIS by HTC will receive the Android 2.1 (

to those with virus issues...why not re-install windows?
at least thats what i do. instead of wasting time tryna find files that are meticulously hidden by some VERY intelligent people. you run those anti-virus programs but most of them dont work AFTER the pc is infected. the live CD option is good...but what about the files that dont get caught (botnets)?
why risk running your system on an un-stable base. so your gonna do your banking on that system?
your purchasing and logging into facebook???
u guys are way more trusting then me.

I agree that it's just to let you know the call is connected, but for those who don't like it, the workaround will prevent it.

I've noticed that the phone vibrates when it transfers the call audio to my bluetooth... it'll start ringing and then vibrate and the ringing comes on in my earpiece... just a thought.

I am very happy to report that on 2nd leak i have a very stable, happy eris. My get new HTC widgets works without a hitch. Thanks all who convinced me to download the ROM.

jxnrxy,
If this latest 2.1 leak is not the final, it is VERY close to it. You will read about freak things going on with a small minority of the people but for the rest of us, it works well and blows 1.5 out of the water. It's like I got a new phone. You aren't going to get 2.1 without bugs even with the official. That simply doesn't happen. They will release the "Official" version (which may actually be the exact one we "leakers" are running) and then they will release Maintenance Release builds that fix the bugs they missed.

1.5 had a major bug that never got fixed! No Youtube? You may not have even used that app but to put one out and to advertise it's usefulness when it doesn't work? I haven't found anything that major in 2.1 2nd leaked version. Neither have most. And to add to my persuasive essay here, :) some problems that people report with 2.1 were also "problems" under 1.5. Some things aren't broken, they just aren't working like the phone owner wants it to, but that's not a bug, that's a preference.

I created an account after lurking around here for a few weeks.

I just wanted to say that I put this 2.1 leak on my phone today and everything works. Also, the "Get more HTC widgets" does work for me. I got a few more widgets with it just to test.

If you wait for the official OTA to 2.1 you will get everything the leaked version users are talking about plus whatever improvements in development are added between that leak and the OTA.

This sort of decision is not rocket science.

If you aren't running AV on OSX, then you've probably got a trojan or two. Thee are several out there that specifically target OSX now.

I do run an AV program on my Mac, and no, no problems ever. Thank you for your time.

And the most evil Frisco shows up! Mwahaha! :D

Frisco also makes a good point. If you want to wait on something that is fully supported by Verizon and POSSIBLE improvements in developments between now and release, then don't upgrade. Frisco is happy with 1.5 so he's not on the express train to upgrade. If you are happy with 1.5, then I encourage you to stay till OTA. Did I contradict myself? Well, maybe but I think your satisfaction or not with what you have will be a factor in your happiness that you upgraded or waited.

Dude.. :D

I'm reminded in all this of back when Windows 7 was in beta and Microsoft offered pre-release versions to those who would sign up and use the software in the months leading up to the official release.

Many got their hands on that pre-release and immediately began to post little tutorials in forums around the 'net on how to cause the beta to not expire and to even remove the beta water mark from the desktop; little registry hacks.

All they had to do was wait for the official release and then purchase it, but there were those that could not do that and didn't want to test it so much as hack around and say they had the new version for free, etc.

What the 2.1 leak folks are doing is in my opinion a service to the Eris community of users. All I want to make as a point is that if you're a user with 1.5 and not much is wrong, just wait and the OTA will come along and you'll have all that the leakers are bragging about (some of them) plus the finished product.

I am new to the forum, new to updating a phone, but consider myself competent to follow directions; but, I cannot get this leak onto my phone. I have...
downloaded from all three sites.
mounted my phone
dragged the zipped file to the SD card
unmounted
held down vol- and red end call button
phone comes up with a window
phone options... first one is power off
from directions I read it should be going to a boot window

Any thoughts? Oh file name is PB001MG.
Thanks, Al

Ok the file on your sd card does have .zip after the file name right? Just checking since your post does not contain it. Here is what you need to do:

Turn your phone off. That means long press the End button, go to power off, and power off.
9. Press and hold the Green and Red button, simultaneously.
10. Say yes to update when the text pops up.
11. It may look like it's doing nothing and frozen at "image not found!" or something similar, but it's fine. Give it some time.
12. Use the "down volume" button to choose hrboot. (oh be sure to hit the trackball when it asks if you are ready to update)
13. The rest is easy information, like your Gmail account and things like that.
14. You now have 2.1
