Just connect your phone to your pc, mount it as a virtual drive, copy the .apk file to your Download folder in your phone's SD card, then open & install app using a program like Astro File Manager.

Absolutely right. I've had the Eris for 3 months and I have never been able to rely on my alarm clock to go off. I also have had issues with the sound while playing music, in call, and notifications. Sound Manager seems to really help with all these issues though. It's available in the market.

I tried everything I knew of. Spybot, AVG, Ad-Aware, malwarebytes, TFC, msconfig, then it got to the point where I couldn't even get to windows update. Wouldn't open the site. Kept removing the same 2 trojan horses 3 times but the browser hijack ended up shutting all 3 of my browsers down.

I tried crap for 2 days and finally gave up. I have new HD's with a clean install. I'm gonna hit that infected HD with my sledge then dip it in my salt water pool for a day or so.
 
Sorry to be off topic. Does anybody know a reliable source for gallery_flan.apk. Is it even worth installing? Do I need to be rooted?

don't have a link, but it is worth installing. and no you don't need to be rooted. I would also like to know if anyone has the multi touch version.
 
Took the plunge and flashed to the new leaked 2.1.. I love it! Thank you all for this and for your posts, It really helped me do this.

OK, I downloaded the .apk Skype file & installed it on my Eris using Astro.

Works like a dream! Thank you ....

Now, if only I could get SWYPE to work on the leak 2.1 .... get the darn screen res error!

swype works for me no problem on 2.1...
 
For those that might be having problems with viruses, instead of running an antivirus program within windows, try using a live rescue cd. More often than not, when windows is running the virus is active and really hard to get rid of. With a live cd, the virus is dormant because windows is not live.

This site has a good list of ones that are available. I would recommend BitDefender or Dr. Web. Both have done wonders for me trying to help friends with infected computers. Simply burn the .iso to a cd, then restart your computer, and boot from that cd.
 
So I waited and waited until I stumbled across this site and 10 pages in, I decided to go for it... Downloaded from initial post (thanks zxphenomenalxz), and not one issue. With the exception of the bugs reported here.....

its worth installing. its nothing incredibly amazing but it is pretty cool. 2 big bugs with it though, its still a beta version, using the camera button in the corner of the screen while 3D gallery is open causes FC everytime. and after opening gallery, switich form portrait to landscape or vise versa causes rendering error. just back out and reopen.
and no you do not need to be rooted. i believe it works on 2.1 only

that was different from what it was with the leaked one, I dont know how to take pictures of my screen, or else I would, but trust me.. its the official one.. I work for vzw. it was passed around where I work shared from sd card to sd card.

I dont know why you guys always got to yell fake lol... I'd understand it if I was saying, OMG I have the only copy of 2.1, when everyone actually has a copy, all I'm saying is, as far as what I was told from the person who gave it to me, It is the official release. Again, It's snappier than the previously leaked version, battery life seems better, I haven't played around with it to see if anything is added. Get more HTC widgets link works now, again, I dont have to keep logging in to gmail.

Hey guys, thanks for the AV tips, they really come in handy... I was debating between ESET Nod32 and Kapersky but may just stick with the free ones like Avira...

malware Bytes did the trick for me but based on what you guys are saying it seems that virus was pretty aggressive....

Jayse, thanks for the link- would running safe mode also be as effective?
