I'd be fine with a late April/early may release. I just want Verizon to formally acknowledge that it's coming.

Would that date really matter? Verizon officially published the 2.1 Update date and that was delayed the day before it was supposed to be released.

Whether we want to admit it or not, Verizon's best move is to say nothing at all until it is released. This way nobody will be let down because of possible changes in schedules.

Someone posted this, but is it true that you COULD buy an Evo and activate it on verizon.

From what I understand, each carrier has their own ESN "bank" and if that number does not exist they will not activate it.

Everyone keeps saying that VZW is behind the curve with these phones but what have the other networks released that is superior to the Droid: the HD2, the Nexus One? I'm not sure why some networks will announce phones way ahead of time and others don't but it sounds like both the Moto Shadow and the Incredible might be out before the Evo. Not sure when the Desire or new iphone are coming out on AT&T.

The risk VZW takes though is that if they wait until May to release the Incredible, I might decide to hold off until I can physically compare the Shadow and Incredible to the Evo and the other summer releases.

On Howard Forums their insider points to a May/June release for the Shadow...can anyone else confirm, deny or speculate on this? Also how does the Incredibles Sense UI compare with the Shadow's Moto Blur?

Oh, must stay on topic....meatballs are really incredible!

UPDATE FROM VZW

I stopped in at my local VZW with every intention to pick up the moto droid for 30 days and this is what I found out from the manager.

Don't expect to get the $149/199 deal in store. (The phone is $309 out the door with $100 mail in rebate)

You do NOT have 30 days you have 15 days.

If you talk over 60min on the phone you pay a $35 restock fee

Incredible update

-She knew no details of the phone but had heard of it.
-She was really open with what they had in stock
-Stated they always get test phones about 2 weeks in advance and she has none.
-Stated the corporate/regional office hadn't even received any new HTC phones and they would get it first.
-Suggested I should hold out another month or two if I really want the HTC.
-Suggested if I want the Droid I should order it online to save me $.

She gets an A+ in my book!

You can thank the good people here in my local Florida VZW for this update.

needless to say I didn't blow $300 for 15 days, 60min talk time, and the bs of a return.

The restocking fee is only if you exchange the phone for a new/different phone. If you return it and switch to an old phone in the meantime there's no charge.

The higher ups don't care what we want, and sending them numerous messages won't get them to release this phone any sooner. They are on a schedule that is set in stone. Companies like Verizon Wireless don't just haphazardly release phones. This release has been internally planned and set for a long time now. It's called a business plan. They have to stick to it. There are too many entities involved to just decide to release a phone out of the blue. It all has to be pre-planned for advertising, marketing, testing, production, etc. Emailing them isn't going to get an answer. Because we are just a small percentage of the Verizon customer base. Probably about 1% or less. They have bigger things to worry about than us wanting a phone. They have to make money and have a game plan to maximize profits as much as possible. If this phone hasn't released yet, it's for good reason from a financial prospective for Verizon Wireless and it's share holders. Nothing person towards you, but that's just the facts.
I know it's nothing personal, and I know it might not (probably won't) have an affect on the release of the Incredible. But if they realise they have a very enthusiastic group of customers interested in their phones and disappointed that they are very slow with releasing them, they might think ahead to future releases and try and be more forthcoming with information, etc.

Also, I fail to see the emails being largely ineffective = emailing them needing to be prohibited. Sure, it might not achieve anything, but nobody is getting hurt and who knows, it might (0.00005% chance) get something done. I just don't see why it's a big enough deal to prohibit it.

The Galaxy S has very fast internals and a 4" screen and still only weighs 118 grams. Also, faster processors usually are the same dimensions and adding ram often is same size/weight memory that holds more. besides the need for better batteries, they don't need to weigh more.
Yeah the Galaxy S is very appealing but who knows when it's coming out, but the faster processor than the 1Ghz Snapdragon, a 1500mAh battery and a 4" Super AMOLED screen

Hey guys, here are my thoughts. We've been waiting a few months for this phone, some of us. Meanwhile, the Nexus One has released. That thing has been plagued with all kinds of problems. Would it have been better for them to wait longer to release it after they had tested it much more thoroughly? Yes. Of course. I think that's what Verizon is doing. Has the Motorola DROID had a lot of problems? No. Not that I've heard of. I think that is possibly what is going on. They are testing it rigorously, and when it finally DOES release, it won't be riddled with problems like the Nexus One. I'm fine with waiting longer for a phone if when it comes out it won't have numerous problems. Maybe Verizon learned it's lesson from the Blackberry Storm release. I doubt they want to deal with those kinds of problems from a device again. Just my .02.

Here is something to keep us all drooling:

Where did you read it's faster? Gotta link? I have been curious which was better, since they are both 1Ghz.

Also, too bad it's only gsm as of now. It's got the best screen out of anything and I would use gameboid so much it would be nice to have the game full screen with the dpad.

EDIT: Found it.

I think people constantly fail to realize that those of us here actually constitute the minority as opposed to the majority of customers that Verizon banks on. In that aspect, the true top-notch geeks are already satisfied because some of them actually do have hands-on with the devices during the testing phase or as they develop applications for the device before its release. We are caught in the middle and represent a fraction of the real customer base.

I would also advise newcomers and those that might have forgotten, that the mods are here for a reason. Whether you personally agree with their decisions is arbitrary. They have requested several times before to take up issues that you may have with them through PM and not in open forum. My advice is that if you like being a part of things here, you bide by their request.

True, I also don't think there is as much urgency from VZW's end. With the market catching up to the iPhone they probably don't feel the need to rush a phone out like the Storm 1.

Have seen several posts about Skype on VZ and how the Incredible might be delayed for Skype's marketing and other reasons. Don't know how other's feel, but I could give a rats ass about Skype. The only advantage it would be for me would be to call Canada on my cell during non-peak periods and not use minutes. But, I can already do just that on the pc using Skype for a little less than $3/mo which includes 60,000 minutes/mo and up to 60 calls per day with that same Skype plan. Don't see the logic in VZ's dramatic introduction of this.

I think Skype will be a bigger deal and have more of an impact on LTE..

I was thinking . . .

The other networks are like a super-hot chick that is really vain and superficial. She lures you in with her flashy good looks and glamorous phones (EVO, iPhone) but once you date her you find that she is empty inside and devoid of any coverage.

Verizon, OTOH, is like the fat, ugly chick who washes your clothes, keeps your house clean, gives you back massages, cooks you delicious home-cooked meals and makes sure you never go hungry for 3g coverage. She also tells you to save some space for the rich LTE-flavored 4g pie she made you for dessert. You just have to put a paper bag over her Droid Eris face until you can save up enough money for an Incredible make-over.

<sniff, sniff...eyes tearing...> Beautiful.

Since the N1 has screen issues (color and sharpness), and the Incredible uses an AMOLED, will it have the same problems visually as the N1? I am not talking about the multitouch bug.

Hi everyone,

when I posted last night about the conversation I had with the manager at a Verizon store when I brought my droid back I forgot to add in something else that the manager told me so I just thought I would pass it along:

One of the other questions I asked if why the release date for the 2.1 update for the droid and eris was delayed.

The manager says he "thinks" it has to do with release dates for new devices. He explained that if the eris and droid had actually been updated to 2.1 then customers might not want to buy new phones with 2.1 already installed.

He thinks that after the new 2.1 devices are released, then the other android phones will be updated as well (maybe a week or 2 later).

He thinks that might be another sign that something is coming sooner than later.

Like I said, just explaining what he was telling me.

Right, but the language of his post made it seem like posting a VZW Exec's e-mail here was ban-worthy. I don't see why. As long as people are only e-mailing with legitimate questions, what's the problem? It's simply making the higher-ups aware that we are interested in some imminent releases.

Also, as I said, a Google search could garner that information, so posting it here really isn't that big of a deal?

Yes - and I still haven't figured out why me posting a link to a Tweet that I thought was funny regarding the same twitter account everyone has been talking about justifies deletion of my post...

The Nexus One has an AMOLED screen as well. However, I can't imagine the Incredible being released with those same screen problems. Especially after all of the tech press that the Nexus One problems have received.

Really about to give up on this Phone. If I don't hear anything before May, I'm getting the EVO, period.

If you're going to wait that long, IMO, at least compare the two. The EVO isn't supposed to hit until late June early July anyway.
