The higher ups don't care what we want, and sending them numerous messages won't get them to release this phone any sooner. They are on a schedule that is set in stone. Companies like Verizon Wireless don't just haphazardly release phones. This release has been internally planned and set for a long time now. It's called a business plan. They have to stick to it. There are too many entities involved to just decide to release a phone out of the blue. It all has to be pre-planned for advertising, marketing, testing, production, etc. Emailing them isn't going to get an answer. Because we are just a small percentage of the Verizon customer base. Probably about 1% or less. They have bigger things to worry about than us wanting a phone. They have to make money and have a game plan to maximize profits as much as possible. If this phone hasn't released yet, it's for good reason from a financial prospective for Verizon Wireless and it's share holders. Nothing person towards you, but that's just the facts.

Yes you are 100%. I think the point here is that Verizon seems to suck at planning for phone releases. They are the IBM of cell phone carriers. They move like a goliath company. Make plans way in advance, execute very slowly and aren't able to quickly adapt to changing environments. In this case they are executing like they did 5 years ago when the phone technology moved much slower and they could get away with taking their time to test and deploy a new phone. These days the 6 months that they seem to like to take getting a phone to make is the difference between deploying an obsolete phone and a state of the art phone. They need to find a way to revamp their phone equipment division and make it nimble enough to adapt to this faster moving world.

The Nexus One has an AMOLED screen as well. However, I can't imagine the Incredible being released with those same screen problems. Especially after all of the tech press that the Nexus One problems have received.

The Incredible would need to ship with an entirely different panel to resolve all the issues that exist with the N1. Not that I'm saying they couldn't delay it a couple months and go back to the drawing board to get a new panel for the phone and put out an incredible product, just pointing out what's required here.

I know it's nothing personal, and I know it might not (probably won't) have an affect on the release of the Incredible. But if they realise they have a very enthusiastic group of customers interested in their phones and disappointed that they are very slow with releasing them, they might think ahead to future releases and try and be more forthcoming with information, etc.

Also, I fail to see the emails being largely ineffective = emailing them needing to be prohibited. Sure, it might not achieve anything, but nobody is getting hurt and who knows, it might (0.00005% chance) get something done. I just don't see why it's a big enough deal to prohibit it.

You would be crazy to think if enough people bitched about it that nothing would get done about it... I mean look at outsourcing the public SCREAMED and look how fast they tweaked it...

The problem is there are not enough people to complain the 3 to 4 hundred people on this forum could all complain and it would be your (0.00005% chance)

but has to start somewhere with some one is it you?

I'm hoping we can get some technical insight on this myself. Both screens are the same model manufactured by Samsung. I would think it be more of a processor or driver problem rather than the screen itself?

2 sub-pixels per pixel is a panel design choice by the manufacturer, not a software or other hardware issue. The arstechnica article with a technical explanation has already been posted a few times in this thread now.

The restocking fee is only if you exchange the phone for a new/different phone. If you return it and switch to an old phone in the meantime there's no charge.

the problem we have here is someone gets information right out of a managers mouth and you guys act as if they are lying.

You have 15 days not 30!

If you use the device for more than 60min of talk time there's a $35 fee rather you get another phone or not.

I asked and was informed. Company policy according to her. Maybe it's changed since the last time you checked.

Some issues/limitations of the N1 screen may be physical, and if the Incredible uses the same screen... it will likely have some of the same limitations.

Secrets of the Nexus One's screen: science, color, and hacks

I'm honestly a little bit concerned after reading this article. Clear text is very important to me, especially on a relatively tiny phone screen. :(

Anyone who isn't inclined to wait for the incredible/nexus one/shadow I can personally recommend the droid. I bought one on craigslist in december and have been really happy with it. When I first played with it at the Verizon store I was not really inpressed. Now that I have it dialed in I love it. It's the first android phone/smart phone I have owned. Gave me a lot of time realize how awesome android is compared to other platforms.

I would not recommend buying one on contract to anyone waiting for the next big thing. Save your NE2 credit for that phone.

UPDATE FROM VZW

I stopped in at my local VZW with every intention to pick up the moto droid for 30 days and this is what I found out from the manager.

Don't expect to get the $149/199 deal in store. (The phone is $309 out the door with $100 mail in rebate)

You do NOT have 30 days you have 15 days.

If you talk over 60min on the phone you pay a $35 restock fee

]

not too sure about this. i was assured by 2 different vzw stores of the 30 day return policy for a droid. receipt and website appear to confirm there is no exception for the droid.

go to the verizon site and check out "return policy" on bottom of page.
there is no mention of this 15 day or 60 minute exception.

just sayin . . .
if someone can confirm this change in writing .. please let me/us know.

It could be that the manager was stupid or they didn't go to an actual Verizon store but an authorized retailer. Thats nor the return policy. In fact its closer to Google's then Verizon's.
Here is the Verizon return policy (also known as company policy)
Return Policy - Verizon Wireless

This COULD be the reason why this phone hasn't released yet. They may be looking into the screen issue and making sure there aren't any problems. If this is the case, I'm fine with them taking their time getting this device to market. I don't want a phone with problems. Period.

Return Policy - Verizon Wireless

Thirty days, per policy on Verizon, updated earlier this month.

Return and Service Termination
You may return any or all of your merchandise for any reason within 30 days of purchase.

Were you by chance talking to a retailer that resells Verizon phones/service? Then it could just be their policy, note this from the exchange portion of the policy linked above:

If you purchased your merchandise from another retailer, the retailer's exchange policy applies.

Edit: Too late, you guys got it covered lol.

I just called the Verizon store where I bought my Droid last Friday, and they confirmed it's a 30 day return policy regardless of talk time. I don't really care about the restock fee.

The screen issue isn't a problem -- it's a design decision. The particular hardware design emphasizes color vibrancy, but at the expense of text clarity. Some people will prefer it; some people won't.

But don't think of it some glitch in the software or hardware defect. It works exactly as its supposed to work.

I have to disagree with the iphone doing great on verizon. Oh sure there will be a ton of people happy, but will anybody from this forum go to it? Android in many ways is already better than the iphone, also in a lot of areas such as pinch to zoom, Iphone is still far superier. For me I like staying with the underdog with this one. I feel like the open source Android will Devour the Iphone in the end.

Even though Iphone is at the pinacle right now, For years everyone has wanted the next iphone killer. They don't have to look very far, Android is already here. It will make a difference as to what specs each brings to the table, but if the iphone comes across to Verizon with the same old phone, poeple looking for something different will turn the other way. I feel like an open source phone, with basically a free app store has unlimited potential over the iphone.

And if you don't beleive me, Google how to jailbreak Iphones and you will see several ways and poeple that do it to get a new app store called cydia. I know with Android you can root it out, basically the same thing, but iphone users do it to do some of the same functions that Standard Android users can already do. Plus there App Store is locked by what Apple wants you to have, not necesarily what you want.:D

Yeah but at least Apple tells you when it's coming out. And everything I have read in here makes me feel cautious about android -- like it's not ready for prime time yet! Delayed software updates, delayed hardware, a phone from Google, a phone from a carrier.....to me this is a mess! I would rather take boring and works over dynamic and unreliable! After this mess, I would jump on a Verizon iphone in a minute!
