Sometimes its easier to do a simple virus scan then to reinstall the entire operating system and restore personal data, that's just my opinion on the case lol but of course if it gets sticky enough then blast it with a fresh install. I have all my personal data on a second harddrive and my operating system and programs on the primary so if i need to do a wipe it won't harm my data

1.5 had a major bug that never got fixed! No Youtube? You may not have even used that app but to put one out and to advertise it's usefulness when it doesn't work? I haven't found anything that major in 2.1 2nd leaked version. Neither have most. And to add to my persuasive essay here, :) some problems that people report with 2.1 were also "problems" under 1.5. Some things aren't broken, they just aren't working like the phone owner wants it to, but that's not a bug, that's a preference.

I'm not sure that is a bug related to Android 1.5 necessarily/solely, for me it is only certain YouTube videos that did not work, not all of YouTube. I also experienced this on my Ipod Touch. I think it has to do with how certain vids were recorded as to whether or not they can be played on mobile devices.

OK, at a triangle with exclamation mark in it behind a phone

finally did a battery pull and restarted with old file still. To answer the question, yes, I added .zip to the file. When it booted up after shut down a window came up with

DESIREC XC SHIP S-ON

<VOL DOWN> to next item
<POWER> to select item

FASTBOOT

HBOT and FASTBOOT are highlighted. So, it never asked if I want to update. Lost here. Al

When you turn the phone off, then turn it on again, holding down the red end call button as well as the volume down button it takes you directly to the HBOOT screen. It should work after that and only have to hit the trackball twice to update it. Don't touch the phone while it's updating until it asks you to.

Took me to the screen I posted. three times

File is suppose to be PB00IMG.ZIP. It looks like you have a 1 (typo)?
Have it by itself and not in any folder.

file size was 103 MB (108,819,939 bytes), but I just deleted it and downloading again. After I mounted phone I dragged the file to the top level that had cardiotrainer, .footprints, rosy_scroll and DCIM and after dragging PB001.zip.

Unless someone says differently, will try with a new download. Al

Can't tell if it's just a typo, but it really needs to be named exactly "PB00IMG.ZIP".

That's P-B-Zero-Zero-Eye-M-G-DOT-Z-I-P.

Also, the one time I got the exclamation point triangle screen was when I started the phone with volume UP and power instead of volume DOWN and power. Not sure if that helps, since it sounds like you're hitting the right buttons already.

FWIW to those on the fence about the upgrade, I came from 1.5 and I am experiencing about the same battery life, and have yet to hit any bugs mentioned here. My only "issue" if you can even call it that is that I have apps starting on their own with greater frequency than I did on 1.5.

No dialer lag
No sound issue
No time without signal
All apps appear to be working fine ( I backed them up but they were all in the market)

Just plain loving it!

Exactly same thing happened. this time downloaded from OP's site, file size is 106,270 KB.

I give up, unless someone has a thought

I do not know if this will help or not, but mine on both of the 2.1 leaks was different than everyone elses instructions. If I did anything with the volume down button, I got the triangle thing. I got mine done by just holding down both phone hard keys on the bottom of the phone and following the instructions from there. Did not hit the volume down at the beginning. It screwed mine up both times.. Maybe yours is acting like mine bikeral..

The first time, the zip was small letters, so I changed it to caps. The rest was correct.

That last file you posted there doesn't seem right???

It should be 104 not 106.. I think.

and if you are curious, I used OTD's link for mine and had no problems with just pushing the 2 buttons without volume button at all. Maybe these phones are different by when they are manufactured and that is why some fly through this and others have errors..

Firmware version: 2.1
Baseband version: 2.41.04.02.02
Kernel version: 2.6.29-564a4a15
htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
Build number: 2.26.605.4 CL140744 release-keys
Software number: 2.26.605.4

I used a different leak (rooted one I believe) from a different site. Mine looks all the same except;

Kernal version: 2.6.29-5cf233c2
Build number: 2.26.605.2 CL134869 release keys
Software number: 2.26.605.2

Now, with that in mind, the image you guys have been using is newer? Do you think it would be worth flashing my phone again if it is a newer leak?

I installed the 2.1 2nd leak version today and I am very happy with it. The install process was simple, effective, and only took about 10 minutes. I havnt had a chance to try everything out yet, but my "get new HTC widgets" does work well. I downloaded the NOTES widget to see for sure.

Wonderful new firmware. I feel like i have a new phone all over again! :)

I really want to stress that this is not meant to be mean.

It is really important to read and follow directions when making changes like this to your phone. Usually the original post will have directions but there are tons of places to find simple, easy to understand directions.

I haven't read anything that said to hold the volume down button. The choices are volume up + end or call + end. In this case, the consequences of messing this up weren't bad. Other times like flashing radios, rooting, etc., you could end up with a brick.

I just want to reiterate that its a very good idea to read directions thoroughly, take your time, and if you aren't sure what you are doing, don't do it.

Again, not trying to be mean. I just really dont want to see someone brick their only phone because of such an easily avoidable mistake.

I seriously think our phones are all slightly different, and I don't know why. But for me, I had to hold Vol Down and End to flash leak 2. Same was true for leak 1. I tried it first with Vol Up and End, and I got the Android exclamation triangle screen. (I never tried Send and End.)

In the "upgrade" tutorial sticky thread the instructions come around to:

"Start Eris by holding Volume DOWN and Power / End Call Buttons."

Perhaps that is the instruction for the 1st leak only, but it is there in bold and I'm sure a few getting the newer leak are following that tutorial.
