To be honest, that's what I've felt that the Verizon pre-release thread has become and why I haven't tried to really tighten the off-topic chatter in there, so a separate thread isn't necessary, IMO. And seeing how the VZW GS3 is the only one waiting for release, I don't think there's a reason to make a general thread (vs just VZW). I'm half tempted to lock this thread to keep it from being a second VZW pre-release discussion thread.

I'll leave it open, for now, to see if any discussion is developed for it. If the discussion goes towards just being VZW, I'll likely lock it or merge it with the VZW thread. If this thread turns out to be a discussion among all GS3 owners, then I'd be more than happy to leave it be or move it to the Lounge, to be with the other Watering Hole thread.

Hey Treb, Remember the Good ole days? Fighting the masses to have a S3 water hole?

sniff sniff..... look how she's grown !

Wow, this thread is moving faster than the speed of light today. I can't keep up with it all.

Just a couple drive-by comments from me:

I sport TPU cases on all my phones. Saved my butt numerous times. My very first Android phone died a premature death when it hit the concrete in Disney. I don't like extra bulk so my phones all have a a nice slim TPU on the back with a rubberized bumper and a wrist strap. Yeah I know the wrist strap is so "old school" but I'm a certified butterfinger. I just do not trust me. That said, my S2 hit the floor 3-4 times a day. My S2 has suffered the same fate. Not a scratch on 'em. TPU adds a tiny bit to the back and gives the sides a nice cushion. Your screen never makes contact with the ground.

Rooting: if it is so easy, why I'm I hearing nefarious things like "you have to re-install all the Google apps to work" and "if you unplug mid-root you brick your device"? I'm not a fan of it because it doesn't seem necessary (Sprint doesn't add nearly as much bloatware as Verizon or other carriers) and is woefully scary.

Backups: Ok I get why you want to backup when you are rooting/romming, but everyday use? That's what all my cloud stuff is for. SMS goes through GVoice (and isn't necessary to keep anyway), contacts, e-mail, bookmarks, etc. all done in Googleland. Photos and videos get stored on the external SD (and backed up to the cloud and computer... I connect to my laptop once a month or so and drag-n-drop to clear space). So what adantage is there in backing up for a user like me?

First off, rooting doesn't zap the Google Apps - that happens when you install a custom ROM.

Also Google only backs up some of what you have on the phone. Any third party app is on its own - e.g. games. I play Where's My Water. A lot. I've got a good way through it. However all that game state us on my phone only. If I switch to another device I have to start off from scratch. Being rooted allows me to back up all that data as well.

Rooting carries a lot of mystique because there are some - just a few - devices you can really hose. Most however are pretty sturdy and even the VZW GS3 with its locked and encrypted bootloader takes some serious effort to brick it to the point you can't recover - most bricks you hear about these days are soft bricks. You hear of a small number of hard bricks these days.

Here Ya go.... Now, If you can please bring a lawn mower to dinner! lol

After you clean thy Royal Poopin' Stool :D ( that's bathroom to you 3rd class folk ).

Ok so, here are a few of my favourite things to cook

Spaghetti Bolognese

You will need,
As much spaghetti to feed whoever is eating
As much garlic as you like
Beef (or other) mince (as much of) I prefer lean mince
A bolognese sauce
Some chunky chopped peppers
3 oxo cubes
Herbs/bay leaves
(optional) finely chopped chillies
(optional) chopped tomatoes

First get a pan of water on for the spaghetti. Plus a lil oil to stop it sticking together.
While that's heating to boil, take a separate frying pan and throw in the mince, add the oxo cubes (ground with ya fingers) this will coat the mince and turn any juices into a nice thick gravy/sauce.
When the mince is all browned off, add the peppers, garlic, chillies, herbs / bay leaves, and bang the spaghetti into the water. Fry off a lil more to get them flavours going.
Add the sauce and tomatoes and leave to simmer till the spaghetti is done.
Serve up to hungry mob!

Potato salad

You will need
New potatoes
A lil butter
As much mayo as it takes
Herbs (parsley / mint)
As many hard boiled eggs as it takes
Peppers (chopped to pinky fingernail sorta size)
Chillies (finely chopped)
Onion (chopped as per peppers)
(optional) some kinda hot sauce but I prefer not too hot otherwise you can't taste everything else

Steam the potatoes, leave to cool and chop into cubes then throw them into a big enough bowl for serving.
Add the mayo, peppers, onion, chillies, hot sauce, herbs and butter.
Shell and quarter the eggs then run em through a slicer and add, mix, stir and serve to starving mob!

Beef stew

You will need
Beef (ribeye or medallions work well)
3 oxo cubes
Fresh veg of choice (in my case sweetcorn, peas, carrots, french beans)
Powdered casserole mix (sausage tastes better)
Load of water
Potatoes
Garlic
Dumplings (suet)

Simple as, bung the cubed meat into a pot, add the powered mix, oxo cubes, boiling water, garlic and cook for 2 hours.
Add the potatoes, cook for 2 hours
Add the veg & dumplings and cook for an hour and half. Serve to ravenous mob!
