Hey has anyone noticed a stronger WiFi signal with version 2 of the leak? My icon in my status bar has been pegged high since I installed version 2.

This would be a nice little bonus to the sign in issue and the dialer issue.

Actually when I installed the 2nd leak, and after installing all my apps and stuff, I had a real problem connecting to my wifi. Had to do a factory reset to get things rolling. Haven't had a problem since, but my wifi signal is no more greater than it was on previous firmwares.

In the "upgrade" tutorial sticky thread the instructions come around to:

"Start Eris by holding Volume DOWN and Power / End Call Buttons."

Perhaps that is the instruction for the 1st leak only, but it is there in bold and I'm sure a few getting the newer leak are following that tutorial.

Same here, Volume Down and End Call and Boom goes the dynamite. I did it that way for both v1 and v2 of the 2.1 leak and I had absolutely no issues with either one.

Another nice bonus. All my apps, paid or free, were in the download section of the market and I was able to download them all with no issue. I had AppBrain backed up but I didn't even have to use it. I am still glad I took the time to back it up though :D

Version 1.16:
Swype-Lite.1.16.12.5228.219.apk

and just in case it may work for others:

Version 1.25:
Swype 1.25.16.56.apk

Beta release:
Droid.Swype.Beta.5612.apk

Thank you kind sir :D

Also just wanted to say that I love the new 2.1 leak. It's so much better than the first leak. The battery life is SO much better and there's no google login error or dialer lag. To put the battery life into context, with the first leak whenever I would do some moderate texting and mild web/data use it would end up being about 65% within about 2 hours. Now with Leak2 doing moderate texting and mild web/data use the battery will be at about 90% after the same amount of time. Thank you guy who gave us this <3

so i tried to download the link posted. Massive virus just f*cked up my computer

Exact same thing happened to me. Norton AV kept blocking over and over. I went into mconfig / startup and unchecked:

COM+ Manager
dbf70700.exe
ad
Antimalware Doctor

Rebooted, ran a Norton full system scan. Haven't seen the virus since.

Good luck

same thing, but even though norton didn't find anything in the full scan, spybot and malwarebytes did, I suggest downloading them both and doing a full scan with each of them to make sure you got it all.

can someone please check the market for me before i jump in the 2.1 leak if there is "knocking live" app in the market. thanks for your help! i appreciate it.

Yes its there, checked it yesterday. Did not download it, not my cup of tea.

OK, I have been waiting patiently for the OTA, but am willing to install the leak this weekend, but is it safe to go in the water? All this talk about viruses, malware, etc. has me still timidly sitting on the beach afraid to take the plunge.

Is it safe yet??

Thanks,
Bassplyr

I admit I was very skeptical, but took the plunge as well, and I am not sorry I did. this version of 2.1 is stable, took just minutes to install and is very very easy to install (Download, mount phone to PC, drag zip file to the root of the SD card, unmount, shut phone off, hold volume down and power key at same time, and the install took off running, follow screen prompts.

Pros: :p
  • Battery power is slightly better imo
  • New app market is very nice - finally, image previews
  • Pinch to get all 7 home screens is awfully nice
  • faster operation
  • YouTube actually works great (New UI as well)
  • New camera features are slick, easy to use
  • New shortcut icons are nicely designed, easy to understand
  • Google sync, Facebook Sync work perfectly
Cons::mad:
  • Contacts seem a little screwy. but im sure this is user error - working on cleaning them up, may have to delete them all, and re sync with lookout ap
  • Gmail images are blue ? still (anyone have a fix?)
Anyone still doubting this, give it a go - you will not be sorry. TYVM OP!!
FYI- I downloaded it (from Megaupload - NO VIRUS' - I am running Microsoft essentials, no issues) based on my converstaion with a tech from verizon yesterday, all she could tell me is that HTC sent the 2.1 firmware to Verizon and that it is being tested. No known release date. Booooooo! oh well, this has to be near release version - all rumors on the net are in this version, just the two issues I described above that I have noticed. (Still cant find how to make my photo album like cooliris as I have seen in some youtube vids)

Enjoy :)

I'm about to update right now, just one last question... anyway to save my savedgames? like robodefense? there has to be a save file somewhere right?

Except for Google synced contacts/images and lookout synced contacts/images everything else was wiped, however: I do not have games on my phone - I am not sure about that. My gut tells me that its stored on the SD card, so it should be ok -just need to reinstall the ap for it. Good Luck :)

Thanks, hopefully they are saved although I guess it's really not THAT big of a deal. lol

Long time lurker first time poster. I tried so hard to wait for the OTA update, but when the Droid update was delayed, I lost hope that Verizon would ever get their act together to send out 2.1. Despite all of the wishful thinkers who actually listen to the Verizon store reps who say can anything with confidence and 75% of customers would believe them, I have little to no faith in their promises.
I used OTD link (thanks btw!) to update and it worked flawlessly. There are a few bugs, but nothing compared to the bugs that existed with the standard 1.5.

The only glitch I have noticed right off the bat: some icons for my programs are not lined up in the menu options. I can still read the text, the icon isn't centered or the text is "tabbed" over.

Other than that- light years faster, signal still great, new features (leap is amazing), and exposure to a whole new world of apps in the market.

If you are hesitant, then don't go for it. But for me, this was totally worth it. A HUGE thank you to the regulars in this forum, you all helped me immensely without knowing it.

hlaalu:

Use AppBrain to back up your stuff prior. Before updating go to the AppBrain website log in and create a list of all of your apps (call it- "update apps" or "I can't believe how much more I will like my phone after this update"). Once the update is complete, download the AppBrain app from the market, go online and copy the apps from your newly created list (from your 1.5 platform) to the current list. AppBrain will take you to the market and you can download them one by one.

As a warning not all will be available. Don't fret there are a ton more apps to replace them.

The product you installed is the not yet completed, developing version of the OTA for the Droid Eris.

Do you think that Verizon is going to abandon the upgrade altogether?

There's been talk about Verizon deciding to upgrade us to only 2.0 or even 1.6. I call bull on that but we'll see. I think Verizon's just either being very lazy or very thorough. I'm going to hope for the latter end. Either way we have this leak for now and I'm very happy with it :)

Wouldn't that "talk" be largely negated by the fact that a couple of 2.1 leaks have occured within a few weeks of one another, with the second one an obvious development improvement over the first?
