Flash Player/Bloatware Questions

Newbie
Hello all, I apologize if this question was already addressed. I tried searching for something similar, but nothing came up using this forum's search function, so I'll go ahead and ask anyway.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S II running ICS on the T-Mobile network. My phone is rooted.

1. I'd like to watch live streaming NFL games on my phone, however, I need flash player to watch the games. The Adobe Flash Player app in the market says it is no longer supported on phones with 4.0.x, however, I've read online of users who have installed the app and their phone works just fine... I'd like to know if I can install Adobe Flash player without it hurting my phone.

2. I've rooted my phone and installed Titanium Backup. I used Titanium to uninstall all the bloatware that T-Mobile installed on the phone, however, the bloatware app icons were replaced with a grey icon that says "SD Card" on it. If I drag the icon to the trash, it will not remove itself from the app drawer. How do I remove these icons?

Thanks for all your support!

I don't think Flash player will hurt your phone. They just aren't going to provide any help or updates anymore.

I've never seen something like you describe using Titanium backup. I got rid of a lot of bloat but never saw anything like that. You could try using a file manager and go to /system/apps and see if there is anything related you could delete. These were system apps I assume?

You can check this thread for apps that are safe to remove and also this list.

I'm not sure what to tell you about the icons. You could do a factory reset and try again.

Thanks for your reply Atmazzz.

I deleted the apps using the delete app function in Titanium. Should I have done something different? I feel like I deleted the bloatware the wrong way. How did you delete your bloat?

Thanks!

!

I'm not sure if its the same thing, but I went to the batch menu, went to the Un-install section, selected run where it says Un-install all user & system apps. Then I deselected all so I wouldn't screw something up. Then I went through and selected all the ones I wanted and then uninstalled them.

I'm having trouble following you.

Did you do this from Titanium? There must be an easier way to uninstall bloat...

From Titanium I go to > Backup/Restore > Tap the program I want to uninstall > than tap uninstall.

Is this the correct procedure for uninstalling bloat?

Thanks again

Its probably the same thing, just a different method. I have the pro version. Maybe its different with yours, but if you look in the top right corner you'll see what looks like a check mark. Tap that and you can do batch operations. Instead of doing one file at a time you can do as many as you want. I don't think that should make any difference though. Its still doing the same thing.

Yeah its the same method than. I'm not sure why my phone lists the icons in the app drawer.

Does anyone have any other help with this issue? Perhaps I should post this question in another section of the forum that is viewed more often?

I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've heard of people using Titanium all the time to delete their bloat.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong...

Try this and see if it helps any.

Open the batch menu in TiBu. Scroll to the bottom and select Delete Backups for un-installed apps. I don't know if it will help but it seems like it has something to do with your sd card. Are you using anything like apps2sd or something?

I don't see that option in the menu. Perhaps it is because I'm using the free version?

Also, I installed AdFree, however, I'm still getting adds, especially when watching YouTube videos. When I access the app, it says, "Boot Normally or show TCP dump Screen? " What does this mean?

Thanks again.

Yeah, I know the free version has some limitations but I can't remember what they are. If you can afford the Pro version, its worth it.

I've never used the TCP dump option and I'm really not that clear on what it does. I did find this info about it:

reboot phone to flush any dns caching
enable TCPdump, checkbox on main screen of adfree
then browse sites/run apps with ads
then go back into adfree and on the main screen show the menu and click on the tcpdump screen option
see if any DNS requested hostnames are missing from the hosts file

AdAway is another great app. I like it better than Adfree. They both work well but that doesn't mean it will stop all ads.
