Root Help with blind wipe

rootchile

Newbie
Hello all!

So for those of you who have seen my other post...I broke my evo...I broke the LCD or LED or whatever it is behind the glass that lets it work!

Now I have to return it to Assurion and I would like to wipe it before I do...only problem being that I can't see anything on the screen. Anyone know of or willing to give me a step by step button procedure for getting my phone wiped? I recently rooted and used amon ra and also flashed vrsuperwipe (I think) Whatever was in the rooting for dummies guide 2.3.5.

I would appreciate any help and would like to get this done today. Not looking to unroot or anything like that...I just want to remove my account info and log in stuff.

Thank you for your help!

here is a great guide that af member extreme has put together
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/371191-get-unrooted-warranty-service.html. however, it is setup for unrevoked which you can't use if you have the newer hboot. but at least it will setup adb commands for you. you will have to use a combo of this plus the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html, if you really want to be fully unrooted.

or you can just push a stock rooted rom and flash that via adb commands thru recovery.

I'm not worried that the phone is rooted...I just want to do a factory reset/wipe to clear all my data before returning it to assurion. Since I can't see the screen I don't know where i'm at in the recovery menu once I load it. If someone could tell me the key sequence i.e. hold vol down and power> then press volume down 3 times> then?
I should be able to reset.
I can't find a amon RA guide that shows exactly what I need to know about the menus

Thanks

This will be a little tricky but if you have amron ra turn phone off
wait a bit to make sure its off
hold power and volume down till it turns on (not shure if you can tell)
wait again for a bit for it to do its thing
then volume down once for recovery then power
wait again about 45 seconds to get to recovery
then volume down 4 times to wipe and power
then volume down once for all userdata reset then power 2 times to select and confirm
wait about a minute then keep pushing power untill reboot.

Hope this helps
also take the sd card out before sending back.

Don't know that much about insurance claims such as this, but why could you not bring it to sprint to have screen replaced? Could they in turn, get reimbursed somehow?

I went through it on my phone Just dont know how easy it will be with out seeing it.

to be honest i would just try and either leave it as is. they will mostly not care if you are rooted. when i had my usb port issue, i had them look at my phone and they did not say anything.

the other thing you can do is use the unroot for warranty link to flash a stock rooted rom.

It sounds like he's not too concerned about the phone being rooted. Frankly it shouldn't matter. The obvious defect is going to be the broken screen.

Now that you've factory reset it pop out your ad card and send it in

I think he is more worried about passwords and personal data

Yes! I hope it worked...I could tell when the screen was on/off because the corner would light a little.

and yea I was only worried about personal data...who knows where these things end up for repair. I guess I'll know if my facebook or gmail accounts get hacked next week why it happened.

Thanks mikem0269 for the write up...that's exactly what I was needing.

side note: I'm back up and running with MikG 3.11 and loving it again...I just hope I don't smash it this time!

Also, about sprint repairing it, I thought it was a problem if sprint finds out you are rooted, since you can use hotspot and such? However, wither way it's my company's phone and I don't mind if they had to pay the deductible :D

No, sprint doesn't generally care that you're rooted.
