Help Copying files from and to PC

I have this annoying problem with copying files to and from the PC.

1) I connect to the PC via USB
2) The PC (Windows XP sp3) recognizes two disks (G: and H: ) which are the internal
and the external SD card
3) I pull down the notification bar on the phone and enable USB copying (mount)
4) I access the disks from Windows Explorer and try to copy some files
5) Copying only works for first couple of files, and only if they are small. If I try to copy a big file or many files, explorer.ext crashes and copying fails.

I've tried changing "Additional settings -> Mass storage only" back and forth, and I've also tried using USB in "USB debugging" mode. Nothing works.

It is as if copying works for the first file (though not always), but then the phone resets the connection and I have to re-enable the connection.

The USB drivers are from the CD. I have the latest firmware. Is there some trick to enable proper copying to and from the i7500? This is driving me nuts.
 
i had a problem similar to yours, so i pulled out my external SD card and connected it to my laptop using a card reader - and the problem reoccurred. so i figured the problem was in the external sd.
with only the internal sd connected i don't have a problem.
 
Try formating your external card as FAT32 or NTFS (i.e. try the opposite to what you have). If either fails (usually NTFS) your card is probably faulty.
 
I know but its a test to see if the card is dead or not, since even a quick NTFS format needs elements spread through the whole card. :)
 
Actually what you should be checking for is bad blocks on the card.

Run a chkdsk on it and set it to perform a surface scan. Then check the card properties in explorer. It'll list the size available and such.
 
OK, I removed the external 2 GB SD card, and still the same problem.

Perhaps it's my hardware badly interacting with the i7500... though, I have a fairly standard Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L mainboard.

I just want to report that I tried with another PC and copying
works like a charm. Very fast too.

It seems that the issue is somewhere on my PC. I'm so relieved
that my i7500 is not malfunctioning :)

BTW... if I plug in the Samsung and then reset the PC, the PC
won't boot. Tried this on both PCs. You have to plug in the USB
cable after Windows boot.
 
Sounds like a case of the PC trying to boot from a USB device... namely the galaxy. Since there is no boot info, it refuses to boot and cycles through an endless search for a boot loader on the USB device. Bad programming.

If you would like to change the PC boot sequence options ... just go into the BIOS setting ... and change the order ...
 
I kept trying to install and uninstall drivers... until it dawned on me to
copy and paste the actual error message into the internet and... voila!

The solution was to stop using the USB ports on the front of my computer
case and plug the device directly into a MBO port on the back. Now it
works great!

Hopefully this will help someone in the future. The error I was getting is: "Cannot
copy file, path is too deep"
