Is it me or is no one paying attention to the fact that someone got to play with a HTC Incredible test device in a VZW store where employees are apparently getting training?

he also claims that his source says the N1 will be sold in stores.. so I don't know. Says thats the reason for the delayed release... VZ insisting that they get to troubleshoot the problems with it...

Hi Apang! Any word or reason given from your sources that were banking on the 3/27 release date? Just asking - trying to find out if they had said anything to you since that date. Thanks! ;)

Nope. They where all banking on that date. Only new info that I received is that the Incredible will be released the same time as the Nexus One. Again, they are digging around as much as they can without bringing too much attention to themselves. I will post any updates that I get when I get them.

was it on display or did he know a VZW employee who had one?
"So I was in the Verizon store today, and a buddy who works there showed me they just got the Incredible in to start testing. Thing looks awesome, and was super fast. All he could tell me about a release date was within 2 weeks, since he himself didn't know - but said when they get the device to play with they usually start selling within 2 weeks of it."

Apparently the VZW employee who is his friend, is getting training with the device. So basically, he was there in person to see his friend using it/showing it to him.

Yea idk how credible the guy is, but any information like this is a great relief. I hope this guys is right, i want the thing released soon. Usually training with the device results with a release extremely soon.

this is his post:

Returned Droid for it. Goodbye Nexus One, this phone looks way better."

Here's a thought going to play Devils advocate here. I hope this does not happen but with the BOGO deal ending 3-31, wouldn't it be wise for VZW to wait until 31 days after this date to release the Incredible?

Ugh!! Don't even say that! Based on this logic, Verizon would NEVER release a phone because there is always a BOGO going on.

but he also said this:

"BTW Nexus one WILL be sold in stores. I had that confirmed today by a Business Rep. I guess thats one of the reasons for the hold up, Verizon demanded they be able to sell and troubleshoot the phones. "

so....

Looks like information is starting to roll in this week.

"Here's a juicy update for ya'll..

My co-workers Dad works for VZW, and his dad just called him to say that they are holding off on releasing the N1 because of the 2.1 Android OS.

The 2.1 update should be available OTA in the upcoming week or so (I haven't been tracking when the 2.1 update is coming). VZW wants to push the fact that they have Droid and Incredible running 2.1, thus saying "why buy N1, when we can give you product support and Android 2.1 with the Droid or Incredible?"

So this is hinting at the HTC Incredible being released before the Nexus One for marketing and economic reasons?

There's been too many release dates passed by to really get excited about a random person talking to a vzw employee who based on experiece says the phone is coming out in x weeks.

Everyone should look at the Verizon Press Release from the Skype announcement. It clearly announced that Skype would be available on March 25 on NINE phones but then only lists SEVEN. While it is not 100% that those missing two are the nexus one and the htc incredible, I have not heard rumors of new VZW blackberry phones or skype capabilities on the Palm webOS.

Just a thought...

you see.. .If I had a brain too, I would have noticed that, as well.

Thanks, I just checked the post out.. I think if he is telling the truth we will know soon.. I mean reports should start coming out I would think. Time usually tells with these things!

I was reading the HTC Desire review on Giz just now and it got me really amped (even more so) about the Incredible. The specs are close on the Desire and the Incredible and the reviewer praises the trackpad and Sense UI as difference makers. Was excited about the Nexus One Verizon rumors this morning but have decided I have to wait on the Inc especially after the hype built thanks to this forum!

Believe me, I hear ya there, Wood. All I am looking for from Verizon/HTC is a friggin' morsel! A lousy crumb! Anything to go on!!! All they have to do is give us an Incredible release date when they unveil the N1 and nobody gets hurt! :p

I'll be buying both the N1 & Incredible as soon as either come out. I'm not sure which one I will end up keeping in the end. Either way, you'll be seeing some cool and original overlays / decals to spice up both devices soon from GRFXP.com :D

And i'll probably get flamed for this...but you'll also be seeing unique decals / stickers for the iPad from us next week :)

Exclusive: Android Froyo to take a serious shot at stemming platform fragmentation

We had a couple people at CTIA last week -- people whose words carry weight -- tell us off the record that the next major version of Android would take big strides toward stopping the ugly trend toward severe fragmentation that has plagued the platform for much of this and last year. You know, the kind of fragmentation that has already left users running not one, not two, not three, but four distinct versions of the little green guy (1.5, 1.6, 2.0, and 2.1) depending on a seemingly arbitrary formula of hardware, carrier, region, software customization, and manufacturers' ability to push updates in a timely fashion. Put simply, Google's been iterating the core far faster than most of its partners have been able to keep up.

Thing is, in light of our CTIA conversations, we didn't have an idea of how Google planned on fixing this -- until now. We've been given reason to believe that the company will start by decoupling many of Android's standard applications and components from the platform's core and making them downloadable and updatable through the Market, much the same as they've already done with Maps. In all likelihood, this process will take place over two major Android versions, starting with Froyo and continuing through Gingerbread. Notice that we said apps and components, meaning that some core elements of Android -- input methods, for instance -- should get this treatment. This way, just because Google rolls out an awesome new browser doesn't mean you need to wait for HTC, Samsung, or whomever made your phone to roll it into a firmware update, and for your carrier to approve it -- almost all of the juicy user-facing stuff will happen through the Market.

The second part of this doubled-edged attack on platform fragmentation comes from a simple reality: we're hearing that Google may be nearing the end of its breakneck development pace on Android's core and shifting attention to apps and features. By the time we get to Froyo, the underlying platform -- and the API that devs need to target -- will be reaching legitimate maturity for the first time, which means we should have far fewer tasty treat-themed code names to worry about over the course of an average year. We like awesome new software as much as the next guy, but Google's been moving so fast lately that they've created a near constant culture of obsolescence anxiety among the hardcore user base -- and in turn, that leads to paralysis at the sales counter.

How much of this strategy actually materializes -- and how effective it is at changing the direction of the platform at large -- remains to be seen, but it sounds like a promising turn of events. Considering it's been a solid five months since the Eclair SDK premiered, that's an eternity in Google years; time to shake things up a bit, we reckon.

agreed, if its true...that is NOT the only store. We should see a bunch of reports by EOD, or i'd shoot this rumor down hard.

Anyone have any wishful thinking left in you?

There's been too many release dates passed by to really get excited about a random person talking to a vzw employee who based on experiece says the phone is coming out in x weeks.
But the person isn't blatantly saying its coming out in X weeks. The employee has a test device for training and we all know that when employees get training, the release date is very soon after. The employee is saying within 2 weeks as usual.

It's becoming downright comical...

"So I walked into my Verizon store today...."

But hey - it's all we have to go on at the moment! Detectives unite!

So he isn't saying within 2 weeks?

Edit: Saying it'll be out in 2 weeks, and based on my experience phones come out 2 weeks after testing is the same thing to me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm cautiously optimistic for a mid-april release, and every "I've seen the incredible" rumor is a good thing, but I'm not gonna jump up and down like this is breaking news.

Let's hope employees who are getting the device today start telling us or releasing info on the web.

I just read this on another thread and made the post a few posts above. Information seems like its starting to roll out today/this week. If this is true, it would be smart on VZW part somewhat. This is from the nexus one forums btw.

MORE VZW EMPLOYEES/REPS PLEASE POST!!!

So he isn't saying within 2 weeks?
He is saying within 2 weeks. But hes being logical about it. According to him, whenever they get test devices and training, the release of the actual device is within 2 weeks from when they first get the test device for training.

So basically, since apparently, he got the test device today, he's saying we can expect a release date within 2 weeks.

Im hoping for some more VZW employees/reps to post about this. Or back it up with information that they are getting test devices also this week.

he also claims that his source says the N1 will be sold in stores.. so I don't know. Says thats the reason for the delayed release... VZ insisting that they get to troubleshoot the problems with it...

I've been assuming the rumors of an N1 sold in stores were false, but it just occurred to me that that would be a "surprise" that none of the other N1's have...

My NE2 is available, but I just checked on my contract and it isn't up until July 23rd. What are the chances they will let me renew for a discount for the Incredible about 3 months early?

Can we take a vote on if the mods should close this thread for 24 hours on Thursday?

There is way too much rumors/gossip/mis-information going around as it is. I don't think April Fools day would be a good idea for the health of this thread...
