Root ~PLEASE HELP~droid incredible stuck in clockworkmod recovery loop

Hello guys,
well im sort of new to the thread thing, and to the phone rooting. but i got a htc droid incredible from a freind that dont know what is wrong with it. he gave it to me with no sd chip. and when i turn it on it takes me to a screen that says:

INCREDIBLEC XD SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.92.0000
MICROP-0417
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_10aa
RADIO-2.15.00.07.28
Jul 23 2010, 18:06:51

FASTBOOT

vol up prev. item
vol down next item
power select item

BOOTLOADER
REBOOT
REBOOT BOOTLOADER
POWER DOWN

and when i select BOOTLOADER it takes me to another screen saying pretty much the same thing but now it says HBOOT instead of FASTBOOT, and the selection say FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, CLEAR STORAGE, SIMLOCK, FACTORY RESET. and when i choose recovery it takes me to a screen that says:

ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0

reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
install zip from sdcard
backup and restore
mounts and storage
advanced
power off

with a tophat and a circling arrow in the background. and no matter what i select from the or do it just keeps looping through these screens. and im not sure what i can do to fix it and was told nothin of what was done to it previously. i have no software downloaded for it, or know what to down load to fix it. all i have is the phone, a 1gb micro sd, and a 16gb scandisc sd, and a laptop running windows 7. so if possible to fix and anyone knows how could u please help me out?!? sorry this was so long but wanted to be clear about everything that i know on the phone. If anyone can help i will greatly appreciate it.. thank for your time

When in clockwork... Highlight the factory reset option, press the trackball to choose it, highlight the option again to confirm, press the trackball, when it's done, select reboot system now... Let us know how it goes.

Yeah you should be in great shape with that configuration. Like sdrawkcab mentioned, when in Clockwork the track pad is used to make selections. The volume button brings you back one menu. Once you're at the main menu and press the power button, it shows the top hat.

ok tried that and its still doing the same thing. went straight to fastboot??

I'd try loading a simple, stockish rom onto the scard. Here's one, there are others:

http://androidforums.com/incredible-roms/478526-rom-liberation-v3-0-updated-01-06-2012-a.html

You'll need to remove the card and place in on there using a card reader since you have a non-booting phone. Then go back into recovery, wipe data (factory reset) twice, wipe cache partition twice and in the advanced menu, wipe dalvik cache twice. Yeah it's overkill but you're having some odd issues so better safe than sorry.

Then with the rom already on the card and while you're still in recovery, install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, find the rom and select it to flash. Reboot to system when done and let us know if you're back up and running.

i got it working.. but i think its back to stock now, i did the RUU program from my pc and it fix it.. this was the program: RUU_Incredible_C_Froyo_VERIZON_WWE_3.26.605.1_Radio_2.15.00.07.28_2k4k_NV_1.70_PRL58006_release_152016_signed
so am i unrooted now? cause if so id like to get it back to the root setting up above but workind lol

well before i get into that... actually what is the benefits of having my phone rooted, like what are some things i can do? and what is wifi tethering do exactly? i read up on rooting a lil but still dont know every thing i can do with it

You just get your apps from the play store. Some ROMs have certain apps cooked in also. WiFi tether can usually be had by third party apps or many ROM devs have just made it so the built in WiFi tether works without a plan. Basically it makes the phone act like a hotspot so it'll broadcast your phones data to the immediate area which can then be used by other devices for WiFi.

I have no clue what's on tap right now in terms of ROMs for the Inc but I'd check at Rootzwiki and XDA if you're looking for the latest and greatest. If you think you might do much ROM flashing, consider buying Titanium Backup from the market. It'll restore all your apps and their data after wiping the phone and flashing a new ROM so you don't have to go reacquire them from the market each time. Priceless app.

so the wifi tethering pretty much gives u free wifi? since u say it works without a plan?

and with the titanium backup, i seen a free version? is that good to use or do i need the one i got to buy?

Well the tethering isn't exactly free necessarily, it's using your phone's data. So you're paying for it already. The key is if you're on a limited data plan, you need to be extra vigilant not to go over.

You CAN use the free Titanium but you need to press a button to confirm install of every app when you restore. Whereas with the paid version, you can do a batch restore of all apps with a single press of a button, no confirmation necessary. So most everyone who flashes roms with any degree of regularity buys the paid version ASAP.

+1 to all that lol... you kinda stepped into the middle of somebody else's deal. Id take my time before going nuts with tethering etc. And the most important piece of advice I'd give a newly rooted person is to read read read as much as you can. And when looking at a thread start from the beginning and read the whole way through. Allot of your questions will have already been asked by somebody else. And search for stuff. There are sites that'll get pretty rough with somebody who didn't search for something first.

I try to be cool with people, but there are others that'll tear into you for not searching.

Good luck and have fun:D
