Radio Interface Resource Shortage FIX

Haha, no, I'm done with modding my phone. The next thing I do is flashing an RUU. I bought a Galaxy Nexus, and I'm never using an HTC phone ever again. I never liked Sense from the get-go...and Sprint's coverage is trash where I am

Why did you bother to even purchase this phone? The first thing before purchasing any phone is to check for adequate coverage in your area. It also seems foolish to purchase an HTC phone if you don't find Sense appealing to you. Recipe for disappointment from day one. BTW good luck with the Nexus.

That coverage map is useless. Supposedly I have great coverage all over town but I was lucky to get one bar and 2g speeds. As for sense, I always really liked it on my old EVO, and it was even better on the EVO V, I always was a fan of the style and the widgets.

Jesus, why are people attacking this guy when he's done so much for us? Just back off. He has every right to be frustrated with this phone. I too considered the Nexus and T-Mobile's MVNO but didn't want to go through with the effort of switching.

Okay first of all, my Optimus V worked fine even though I have low signal where I live at home. At school where I do important stuff, I have great signal. Next, I bought the HTC phone for the hardware, like anyone else would who knows what they're doing and anticipates developmental modding. And so far, awesome luck with the Nexus. They have a toolkit for it that makes modding an absolute cakewalk. Highly recommended. I bought this HTC thinking it would be fine, and then HTC screwed us all with this major firmware bug.

Thanks, and the effort of switching really is minimal, honestly. You do a new activation for the $30 plan, then you port the number. Done. It was a no-brainer to me.

Update for everyone: HTC called me back just to let me know that they are still working on the issue. Even though I'm selling my phone on eBay once the end of this month comes around, I am staying in touch with their escalations department so I can bring you a release date if/when one comes around.
Thanks for letting us know. You know, it's funny, but I'd been in contact with HTC for a while, and they never told me they were working on anything. I've spoken with a handful of people over there, and not a single one told me that, and I even asked them. They finally closed my case, and their conclusion was that the issue could be the PRI, and that they are not fixing it, but it's something that Virgin has to take care of and release an update for. I really hope that a fix is coming, because I don't want to further tinker with internal components of my phone to achieve S-off. Rooting and things like that are one thing, but I am uncomfortable with physical changes.

Metal have you tried using the new pri over in the root section? It also seems to stabilize the fluctuations.
I am behind a bit in reading these forums, but I will go search for that thread now, since HTC mentioned to me that it could be the PRI. Does flashing that require more than a rooted phone, like S-off?

He has shared a lot of info, I'm appreciative.

You will need S-OFF to make this phone work. In case enough people haven't heard, I'll be selling my EVO V on eBay very soon, as my month is coming up and my GNex maguro is about to be activated on T-Mo's prepaid.

That sucks. For now, I'm not doing that. I'm not counting on a patch or update from HTC / Virgin anytime soon- or at all, either. The error has not been that bad lately, honestly, it's just annoying to have it be recurring with no permanent fix. And when it does happen, I miss calls and don't even know. My biggest issue is the fluctuating radio signal, which is really annoying. Good luck with selling your Evo, and with your awesome new phone.

Tier 3 tech support wanted me to do a RTN reset (##786#), but I didn't even want to bother since I googled it, and others have done it and still have the problem. This one wipes your phone, so it's not worth my time.

I called again today, and the guy said that I had a socket?/feature enabled on my phone that shouldn't be there. He "fixed" things, made sure the account was synced, and updated my profile. Actually, since then, my signal has been much better than usual and has not been fluctuating as much, so maybe this really will help. I will wait a few days to see.

If this doesn't help, I will keep my eye out for new phones/plans, but for now am ok with this, since it is happening less frequently. Still annoying, but bearable. My biggest problem other than this is actually internal storage space, lol. I have 600 MB free and not nearly enough apps yet. I might have to get a new phone because of this before I switch because of my other errors, ha. I absolutely detest being low on space.

Btw, in case the tier 3 number was posted anywhere, it no longer works. They changed it. They said they were getting too many calls, and now there's no longer any way to contact them. It's bull. I called and tried to get the new number, but they said there was no new one. The lower tiers don't have access/clearance for it, and even the supervisor said he couldn't get a number for me. Virgin now has a special HTC department for working on our issues, and he that the regular tech support has access to this team now, so tier 3 is no longer available.

I still didn't believe there was no way to contact them (there's ALWAYS a way), so I let him do his "troubleshooting steps" that didn't work, so he could elevate my case to tier 3 again. I figured when I got in contact with them, I could ask them for the number and hopefully I'd get someone who could give it to me. Strangely enough, someone from tier 3 called me back shortly after, regarding a ticket I'd had open from a month earlier. O.o And yes, there is a new number to tier 3, and you can contact them directly.

I call every day now. I have swapped my phone once. How many of us have HTC Evos that are A. From Best Buy B. Purple and/or C. Branded for Sprint? Mine is all three and I am thinking about taking it back (again) and getting a black one branded for Virgin, if I can. Stupid phone! I love it but I hate it too and not being able to count on it to make and receive phone calls and texts is awful. I would love to know where the people who DON'T have this problem got their phones. :D I am so sick of talking to people from India whom I can't understand. Currently waiting for a call from "headquarters" which doesn't open until 9 am, which puts headquarters one timezone west of me so MAYBE I will be able to understand them. I'm not so hopeful that they will be able to fix my phone but maybe they will tell me to return it and get something else. Maybe they will do something useful rather than waste another 30 minutes of my life. Probably not...
Oh, yeah, besides not being able to make calls when I should have full signal, and having times with the signal indicator flashes from full to none to some to full to none, all while I am sitting still in a place where I should have five bars, I also find that my phone drops both calls every time I use call waiting. I hate this stupid phone. :banghead:

Why don't you follow Leslie Ann's thread? She practically fixed all of these problems a while ago:)

Here's my experience: the only time I get the radio error is when I'm at work. My office building must be like a faraday cage because my signal is very weak and can even drop to zero on rare occasion. Verizon was the exact same way. When my signal drops to zero or near zero is the only time the sms error crops up. All other times everything functions just fine.

This thread seems kind of dead now but just wanted to post my 2 cents and hopefully not jynx myself but I Rooted, S-OFF and flashed the .53 radio, hboot and PRL from the "Fix everything" thread, installed vanilla mobster 2.5 and haven't gotten one error yet.

I did the same for my friend who was receiving errors every day and they haven't gotten one error since either.

Cheers

A few newb questions :

Is this issue widespread on all VM EVOs?
What does the error look like? Is it a dialogue box that appears?
Is this mainly an issue with MMS?

Thanks all. Been using the phone 2 days now and no network issues at all.

Majority of VM Evo's are effected but not everyone has had issues with it.

The error pops up with a dialogue box and if you click "details" it says "error code 64" or whatever error code you are receiving. People also report poor cell signal and difficulties making calls which I had.

It is an issue with any messaging, SMS, MMS and phone dialing.

Hope that helps

Interesting. I never text so perhaps thats why Im not seeing it.

Thanks for the clarity!

I just got an OTA update and the signal no longer jumps up and down and the error message has vanished as well, hopefully this will be the end of our problems.

After seeing your post I manually checked for the HTC update. However, the description of the update seems more security related and not signal related. I still see the "jumpy" signal after the update. Only time will tell if this update fixes any shortage errors.

Send a bunch of fast texts to yourself, that usually triggers the issue.
