At long last Google plan to step in to sort out the mess with all these different versions of Android.

I hope they tackle the half-arsed mess that the market is next.

* Allow different versions of the same apps for different OS versions.
* Allow automated handling of paid/free versions of the same app.
* Provide decent changelogs
* better filtering and/or more categorisation options: sick of wading through 1600 ******ed wallpaper and soundboard 'apps' trying when to find an mp3 player (since theye all multimedia, apparently).

Yeah, and it's kinda stupid that while uninstalling, you don't even have an "Because I've just bought the full version" option in the poll Not that it's much of a problem for me as we still don't have an access to the paid apps...

Yes, the developers can support it, if they maintain 2 separate entries for the app, one for each version of android. It would be much better if the marketplace handled this automatically, so the user goes to (say) google maps, and gets the version compatible with their OS version.

At the moment, apps have a tendency to disappear from the market altogether if theyre updated and no longer support older versions of the OS, despite the fact that the old versions often worked just fine.

What do you mean?

Similar to the above, instead of 2 separate apps this should be handled automatically by the market. 1 app: user chooses which version they want (free/paid version) and pay the appropriate amount. Not a big deal, it's just a bit clunky and amateurish at the moment IMO.

I hope Google can clean this mess, cause I feel that HTC customized Androids are going to be the same HTC customized Windows Mobile which were and still very slow to be officially upgraded!

just like the Hero for example...it's still working on Android 1.5 officially...it's devastating!
