Zombie Apocalypse Thread

Actually, there was a disease, not too long ago, that went through some tribes that still practice cannibalism. It affected the brain much in the way that mad cow does. Once a person ate another person's brain (it was a ritual think to honor loved ones) they were infected with a parasite and it caused them to move and act very similar to the way one imagines a zombie would. The effects did not last long too long though as the infected person soon died. Which of course started the cycle all over again.

I believe it would be a matter of freshness. However, in most of the studies on what real zombies would be like (yes, there are real life studies on this) it is theorized that eating their own kind would be a last resort to avoid starvation. Much like the Donner Party. It is also theorized that eating off their own arm or leg to survive could be a possibility as well.

Yep, that would be the one. Prions are actually the theorized source of a zombie outbreak in many studies and works of fiction.

There is a view in Washington (and other places) that something like a Zombie Apocalypse as a perfect scenario to train for other events. The fear and panic equates to a biological or chemical weapon attack as well as a terrorist attack. This is one of the reasons the scenario is starting to become widely discussed by the military, CDC, FEMA, FBI, ect. It is also a way to encourage people to prepare for a disaster. The same things you would want to have in ZA preparedness kit will help in an earthquake, flood, etc. The only thing it doesn't prepare anyone for is shooting their neighbors, friends and family in the head.

There are actually several blogs and info sites devoted to helping people prepare for a Zombie Apocalypse. Some are tongue in cheek, but others are very serious about the subject.

EDIT: The forums can be a little scary.
 
Yeah that will be a tough thing to overcome. Perhaps swinging a bat will warm them up to the idea?

That's what the article was about. The equivalence of the reaction from citizens and how law enforcement will react. But honestly if something like that were to ensue I doubt they will have any control over how the people respond.

The chaos would be extreme. Especially since most believe even the idea is something of fantasy, video games and late night tv. There would be a lot of deaths while people were just trying to come to grips with the idea. Any scenario like this becomes twice as dangerous when people believe it can't happen. If you look at things like Sarin and VX gas the idea isn't all that unrealistic though. Some of the worst things in the world have been man made while trying to make things better.

The mathematicians and theorists believe the Government/military has about an 18 hour window to get people on the ground to contain any outbreak. If the outbreak goes on for more than 24 hours then it is believed there would be no containment.

I'm thinking this should be moved to its own thread as these thoughts aren't all that random.
 
Sure we would. All these phones now have cameras we can video the neighbors getting eaten while loading the shotgun.
 
What would we watch on TV? What video games would we play??? I wouldn't want to watch The Walking dead or play dead trigger any more, I don't like dramas

That would probably be considered reality TV.
 
No just weird, wouldn't you think it would be weird if you seen a dog wearing a hat and sunglasses, driving a truck?
