If Sprint gets the CDMA iPhone, will you consider it over EVO 4G?

The only thing that would make me consider an iPhone w/ sprint is if they're free. And it better be the latest one too... LOL!

i would never consider an iPhone, a locked down pile of crap with the same interface over and over and over again... no customization no NOTHING a nice MP3 player yes, but that it what my iPod is for, i don't need a phone to have the top of line MP3 player in it... i will never even think of the iphone over evo... BLEH

(goes to vomit)

I've said it before and will say it again...Give me choices even if I never pick them. You may not buy it, but there will be people that will and that is all the matter to Sprint (more customers = more $$).

Nah. The iPhone has always been tops in look and feel but way behind in capability. How many generations did it take to finally get 3G? GPS? Camera? Video? Copy and paste? I still can't run more than one thing at once unless it's an Apple app. I still can't install what I want without cracking the protection and breaking the law. I still have to install that POS iTunes on my computer.

Like I said before: the iPhone is great for people not already used to smart phones. It is a huge jump up from a feature phone and the lockdown translates into less options and greater simplicity for non-techies. But people for whom a pocket computer doesn't just mean a few games and a browser tend to feel a little stifled when using one. I have a 32GB Touch (damaged the LCD just this weekend :() and the thought of that being my daily phone makes me shudder.

You actually just sound like a hater. Regardless of how long it took to get where it is, outside of multitasking it is a very capable smartphone especially with Agendus and Docs To Go. Two programs right there are pure business oriented apps. As much as I would never buy one, it still is quite capable.

rumour of the iphone HD (ie. 4th gen iphone) having 960 x 640 screen res. If that's the case... will make for a VERY tough decision for ME...

as for a CDMA iphone... not really interested in any CDMA devices to be honest, which is why getting an EVO 4G is still a question mark for me.... but not out of the realm of possibility... if me area (Detroit) gets 4G by then.... i'll still consider the EVO 4G.... (assuming the contract free EVO pricing isn't too ridiculous... ie more than $600).... i won't do a 2yr contract... not for any reason... i'm contract free right now and that's how it will stay...

I have an iPhone 3GS now but I am really looking forward to the EVO but the one draw back about the EVO is that you can't talk on the phone and use the Data connection at the same time(see link below)...
Sprint's HTC EVO 4G Can't Handle Data And Voice Simultaneously
This is something that I have yet to understand. Whats the big deal about doing data and voice at the same time. Can someone give me an example. The reason I ask, is because right now with my Sprint Hero and using pdanet, I am able to surf the net and talk on the phone if need be. But thats with the phone attached (via cable) to the laptop. If I am walking around looking at videos on my cell phone, i do not need to be on a call anyway. For others that may be a necessity.

I don't "hate" the iPhone. I just never wanted to give up common features and pay more money to switch over to it. If I hated the iPhone then why would I have an iPod Touch? I don't care who likes the iPhone because it isn't my business. As many people on tech sites are wont to do, I was simply making the case for why I chose what works for *me*. Just because I give my personal opinion doesn't mean I'm trying to speak for anyone else.

When the iPhone came out I would have had to give up my 3G, GPS, 3rd party software and multitasking, not to mention stuff like Qik and video recording that seem to be hitting their stride on the Evo. I wasn't about to give up things I used all the time and pay more for the privilege. If I was more concerned with the browser or the media player then maybe I would have felt differently. iPhone had and still has its strengths and weaknesses. I make my purchasing decisions based on the things important to me, not to someone else.

If anything I'm apathetic about the iPhone.

I don't know where you're at in "Detroit" assuming you're not in Detroit proper, but Metro Detroit won't be getting it in 2010 from the looks of it.

Me, no care ever. Still buying and running it on 3G. My campus has WiFi and my house has WiFi and that is good enough for me.

reading quickly from the phone between breaks so I skim. So not a hater, and I'm all for opinions, but you have some (keyword) incorrect ones. It can run programs needed for serious business use. It just can't multitask with them. I know plenty that have made the transition from PalmOS and BB and haven't looked back. I think they're nuts, but to each their own. I really don't care for the iphone or apple products in general, but am willing to give some credit where it's due. Heck, it's the only one of the three new touch based OS's that was smart enough to utilize the gpu for basic functionality which is why it runs circles around webOS and Android for smoothness. webOS and Android need to rely on pure horsepower to get it done instead of sharing the load with the gpu. This is the main reason all these first gen phones are painfully slow. Pretty smart on their part.

And I do hope Elan's multitouch lawsuit has some legs. They already had a victory over Synaptics. Maybe google should back them and give a nice FU to Apple.

I am sure its not something that makes or breaks every ones decision in getting one phone or another but some people for various reasons like the feature. some reasons can be for business use like checking emails and going on the internet and others could be for when they are talking to someone and like the ability to look up different things or using their apps while they are on the phone.

hmmm... that's bad news... (i'm in Oakland county btw... not in the city, not that it matters, still won't have the 4G coverage...)

without the 4G, it's not a big enough jump from my Nexus to make it worth it then... i'll stick it out until we have 4G... til then my rooted Nexus will be more than adequate ;)

(a dude at work had the HD2 - he got is yesterday) - it is seriously MASSIVE... yeah, it's nice to have such a big screen, but the device itself is just HUGE... it's literally like a small tablet... it's made me rethink if i want to lug around such a beast... we shall see....

Yeah, Grand Rapids is planned, and Detroit is rumored.

However, I don't see why Detroit proper would get it. I would assume anyone in their right mind would deploy it over all of at least Wayne, Washtenaw and Oakland county.

I would choose an EVO over an iPhone even if the iPhone were upgraded to similar hardware. I don't like the iPhone's os and I don't like Apple.

i like iphone build quality, support, app/hardware/accessory availability/consistency/ubiquity.

just wait until people actually see the size of the EVO... a few will change their tune... I held a buddy's HD2 yesterday - he had just gotten it... sure the large screen is super nice... it's massive! but on the same taken, it's borderline a mini-tablet in size... do i want to lug something like that around all the time? i dunno... it's certainly not as pocketable as my Nexus... so will have to wait and see... and there's that popsicle stick stand... last thing I need is that thing poking my scrotum :D

I wouldn't. Not being able to swap batteries is a main reason i switched from an iphone to the pre. And they need to do something dramatic to the OS because after seeing some of the things the EVO can do, I don't think i can ever go back to an iPhone.

and there's that popsicle stick stand... last thing I need is that thing poking my scrotum :D

Scotch tape or a case! :D

Seriously though, everyone should go to a T-Mobile store and hold the HD2 to see how HUGE this thing is. It may cause some to reconsider. I will never reconsider myself, I want that screen!!! I don't mind the massive size of the thing.

While I have only owned a iphone for a couple of weeks and returned it casue I couldn't justify paying the high price of ATT and not having 3g in my area throuhg them, aside from that the iPhone is a beast of a phone. Yes it doesn't multitask and such but you can do stuff with the iphone that you can't do with Android or other phones. Example right now I'm loving android but hate the fact that I can't watch slingbox with it. I now it coming but its NOT here and I have to wait and at the moment its incapable of doing stuff. There are allot more apps that I have on my ipod touch and the only reason I own the ipod touch is because no other phone besides the iphone has some of the stuff I need it to have. Another example is a EPL app for Iphone. Its a English premier league app that tracks live scores minute by minute for each team and also updates the table as games are played and goals are scored. There are apps for android similar to this but NOT even close this advanced so at this point we are lacking and behind the iphone. You have to understand the iphone is what it is NOT because of its hardware but becasue of the available software through the app catalogue.

Oooh by the way I can't wait to pick up my HTC Evo 4G LOL

I have always loved the iphone for its looks and of course, the apps! But I would never change to Apple because of the proprietary issues that they have with all there products. Apple doesn't play well with the rest of the world.
