First let me tell you while i was high i remember from a g1 you can access the recovery from a terminal emulator application. And after typing "su" (w/o "") enter and gettin this # (this will only happen if you have rooted your phone)i typed in "reboot recovery" and booted in to a screen with the little green man (pun intended),and the down side is all it did was reset my phone but left it still rooted. idk if this help but the right boot script could access the bootloader.

su enter
reboot recovery
youll see a screen that would wipe your phone
