Same for me... If it comes out in early summer, my upgrade should be after the first price reduction however; and by that point maybe they will have released the first bug-fix update, FroYo and be on hardware revision 2!
 
While it is a nice looking phone I think the price will be the limiting factor for me. Also I don't need a video cam that does hi-def and I don't need the hdmi port and I initially thought is was going to be an amoled screen. I think those things add to the price and the drain on the battery. I do like the extra rom and ram space and the fact that it comes with an 8gb card. I will have to see how the prices compare to the N1.

Am I the only one that HAS NEVER HAD ONE ISSUE with my hero??? the Moment that I have the wife took over, that is a P. O. S. this is the 2nd moment we had and both have been nothing but S*!T load of trouble. the wife likes it but bit***s about it all the time.

Lol, my Mom's the same way about her Moment...but mostly because she's technologically illiterate. I think when the 2.1 update finally comes out, it'll help out a lot of the Moment's (and Hero's) issues.

I am with you. I guess my ONLY, serious displeasure with the Hero is the lag that I experience after the phone has been on for like a week. At that point, I just reboot and I am good again for about another week. A reboot is such a simple thing. Thats it! Really... battery life isn't any different than any other smart phone I have ever owned (my theory is, if you aren't charging every night, then you should stand back and ask yourself why you have a smart phone in the first place... get it? I talk, text, surf, email, check sports scores, and that's only half of what I do. If you don't do all of that on a daily basis, why have this phone? And doing all of that drains the battery, side affect of a smart phone)
 
i will be buying the EVO the day it drops. ive been waiting for the 2.1 upgrade for the hero and am still waiting. and as for everyone speculating on the price and saying they are gonna wait for the price drop, dont hold your breath. the EVO is a higher quality HTC device and i doubt the price will drop much or at all over the first 6 or so months. just look at the Touch Pro 2, that sh!t is still expensive on contract.
 
I live within 4G coverage, which makes it tempting. The form factor of a Hero or an even thinner N1 is more pocket friendly, but in pics the EVO looks very similar in size to an iPhone, which with a little time to adjust, would probably work fine also. I've read a lot of speculation about a June release, which would line it up to compete head on with the next iPhone.

Being another member of the 'eligible in October' club, I'm thinking that holding out would enable me to monitor industry reviews and observations, ownership experiences, bug issues, 4G plan pricing, potential price drops, and progress with rooting and custom ROMs. I'm also pretty much addicted to the freedom and convenience of wireless tether. While the feature set lists 8 simultaneous tethers, PAM isn't included with a SE plan. I don't need 8 connections, and I don't foresee that as a freebie.

For now, I'm satisfied with the functionality and performance of my Hero running a 2.1 ROM, so I'm inclined to wait it out. OTOH, I'm a techno-geek at heart, and the EVO looks amazing, though I do wish it had a trackball or a pad. I guess I'll have to check one out and reevaluate this summer.
 
Personally I am just satisfied with my nexus one. At first I was all kind of down because i wanted the evo because it makes the hardware of the n1 look like a childs toy, but then i remembered I'll be on android 3.0 while the EVO is still wating for the 2.2 upgrade :P

Anyways it is a great phone. If i hadn't gotten a nexus, I'd get it because this is like a HTC HD2 on crack with android, something I had always dreamed of. Looks like the bar is being set high. I'm sure the apple nerds are jealous.


I kid. Father Jobs has declared Android an act against god.
 
I could upgrade my wife's line, but will be waiting till 4G is up and working like it should. I have been hearing a LOT of complaints about Clears 4G service, which I am guessing is the same network Sprint will be using since they are the majority shareholder in Clear.

Riiiight, keep telling yourself that :p If you REALLY believed that, why not keep the phone you had before the Hero? I am sure it made calls just as well as your Hero, why upgrade at all if thats all you care about? Bottom line is the Evo blows the Hero out of the water in every single category across the board, the calling is not what will have people buying this phone :) I will be selling my Hero and buying an Evo day 1!
 
I have another year for my contract but I'm gonna get this anyways because even the hero is good its too laggy and I love this phone already

If you want to know, because I had a Razr on Verizon that I'd had for over a year (previous one fell apart after hitting a brick wall...stupid alarm). My contract with Verizon was up, and my girlfriend had recently gotten a job at Sprint. She bought me the Hero for my birthday in October, which happened to come with a $23 a month plan, which included 500 minutes per month, unlimited data and texts. THAT is why I didn't keep the Razr, and I will have no reason to buy the Evo before my upgrade in October.

Hero is a 9 out of 10 phone. But 6Mbit downoad with 1Mbit up everywhere in Austin with free hotspot tethering? This gives me wet dreams

I'm not sure about the free tethering. Currently, SE plans don't allow for PAM for even a single device, they want to sell air cards. Wimax plans might come at a premium, or maybe there will be a surcharge for tethering, but I'm skeptical of the likelihood that Sprint will suddenly allow 8 way tethering for free (without being rooted).
 
If you are stuck in a contract, you should take note of your bills. Every so often Sprint, or any carrier, will change the terms of the contract. If these changes are material (legal term, meaning a change that has some level of impact.), then you should call Sprint up and tell them you want to cancel the contract because you do not accept the new changes.

Getting out your contract because Sprint changed the terms does not trigger ETF, since it is Sprint who has changed the agreement. A recent change was a 10 cent increase to the regulatory fees. The first rep I reached wanted to give me a $20 one time credit, which would more than offset the fee increase for the entire 2 year contract. However, I simply said that the credit doesn't change the fact that Sprint is changing the terms of the agreement, which I do not agree to.

Doing this is within your legal rights, because a party to a contract cannot change the terms of the contracts as they wish without the consent of the other party. This right cannot be removed, though Sprint's TOS on the website acknowledges this right so you can always point to it if your Sprint rep doesn't want to cancel the contract.

The one tricky part is that some reps will want to cancel your account, not just the contract. You can either try a new rep, or tell them you will port the number away so they can't cancel the account just yet. If they still want to cancel it, then simply port your number away, and start a new Sprint account with your old phone.

I did this back in January for all three of my lines. I'll definitely be getting EVO's for each line, though I will probably only keep one or two.
 
Maybe, but I am going to wait to see if there us going to be a Cdma version of the Samsung Galaxy S......
 
Yes in October when my upgrade comes around.... as long as I don't have to pay a bunch extra for 4G, since they don't even have it in my area yet.
The phone specs by themselves (huge screen, snapdragon, 2.1) are appealing enough to upgrade.
 
Based on the price, I will buy it when it comes out or wait until Oct. to buy it. I'm a Premier customer.
 
I won't ditch the Hero, I'll end up getting the EVO for my fiance though. She's done nothing but complain about having a Slowberry (that she begged to get "because her girlfriends all swear by them and know more than me" lol) it'll be worth it to finally shut her up.
 
I am planning on getting it, my upgrade comes first of June, so looking forward to at least seeing it. I have seen rumors on price and also from reliable sources (but not written in stone) and it's looking good to me, but I'M NOT GETTING RID OF MY HERO! I am now trying to save up so I don't have to sell the Hero, The EVO looks awesome but the Hero has been a great phone and it's reliable so I'm keeping mine........for now anyway................

I don't have any issues with mine which kinda makes me giggle @ the people that do b/c of their misfortune.
 
I will be getting it in October when my Premier upgrade is due. 4G is coming to my area this summer, so hopefully it will be up and running by the time the deals start for the EVO so I can upgrade at a decent price.
