How is it that so many people are able to “upgrade” around October? I signed up with Sprint that same time when the Hero came out and signed a two year contract (the only type of contract that was available to me)….. From my understanding, I will not be eligible for an upgrade until approximately 18-20 months into my contract, not 12 months….

Is there something that I’m not aware of?? b/c I would definitely like to get the EVO around the October timeframe…

Well, for LONG TIME Sprint customers (I'm 14 years, lol) they have upgraded the accounts to Premiere status. One of the benefits is that you get the 2 year incentive every year, meaning every 12 months you get $150 towards the purchase of the primary phone on the account if you re-sign for another 2 years. I have also been in great conversations with account retentions to receive other perks too. Seeing that the ETF's have been restructured to basically evaporate by the 12th month, I would wait until then and give retentions a call and see if they would offer you the same deal, you have nothing to lose.

Works for me... ;)

Hope that helps...

Oh, I used to renew in May, but was always ahead of the new phones coming out, so I delayed my renewal one year till September and then October, this way, I would get to see all the new phones coming out (usually June - September) prior to making a purchase decision.

help a newish Sprint customer out. I switched over to Sprint for the Hero back in Nov. 2009. My wife is currently on T-mo month-to-month.

If I bring her over to Sprint and add a line when the EVO launches can I then immediately "switch" the EVO to my line and give her my Hero?

I know with GSM it would be as easy as swapping SIM cards...From Sprint's side they are getting the same $$ from me so is there any hang up with this plan?

That will work fine! I did that when I switched my mother-in-law to Sprint - she got a used phone and I got the Hero to use on my line instead of my recently purchased Palm Pre. It's easy to activate and switch phones too!! I'll be getting the Evo though ASAP and getting rid of the Hero.

Thanks for the info

I've had my Hero three months and like it. I'll upgrade at the end of the year. By that time you all should have the bugs worked out and/or it will be obsolete. TC

The EVO looks awesome but with the 2.1 update coming hopefully soon, my Hero will suffice. Now if I can buy the EVO outright for under $400 it might happen on release day...

Unfortunately, I'm probably gonna have to wait until October this year so I can upgrade. Don't really wanna shell out $500+ for any phone lol.

EDIT: Plus, by that time.. any bugs should be fixed and working as intended

This phone sure looks nice, but it's way too big! Even bigger than the iPhone and I'm all against big phones! So, I'm sticking with the Hero for now until they come out with an smaller phone... plus there's no 4G network in my area!!!

4G/No-4G should not be the deal-breaker for this phone. It'll work perfectly well on 3G, just not as fast as 4G.

As for me, I'm waiting for Oct to upgrade from my S**t-hole Hero. Where I see others who laude how their Hero is so great, I've gotten the laggiest, buggiest P.O.F.S. that could still slip by Q.A. standards. I just don't want to be caught a second time with more trash...
