OTA 2.1 Has started..

They fixed a glitch in 2.01 that allowed the phone to be unlocked after receiving a call - without entering the lock pattern.

Oh ok. Well that sucks.. i thought they added new ways to lock your phone. That would've been a nice little addition :(

i downloaded and installed 2.1 on my droid. Everything seems to be find except that there is not any feedback for the virtual keyboard. no vibrations when i press the keys. anyone else having this problem? thanks

im not sure how to get this 2.1

i really didnt understand the directions in the beginning of this post. can someone help guide me a little?

and my phone lists that i have the most current software, why? i thought verizon would have made this easy to download right onto the phone.

they will make it easy to get the update. all you have to do is wait, maybe a week or so and they will send it over-the-air to your phone. if you want to update before that you must install it on your own.

A week or so? Come on, he'll probably have it by tomorrow, maybe in an hour if it was really only a 24 hour wait. Remember this update is only about the U.S. Verizon customers. Absolute worst case, it can't be more than what, four days? Absolute worst.

This install turned out to not be too difficult; I memorized the steps for it sans desktop and installed it via Droid, drunk. :) So far so good, but I don't like the comma moved to the 2nd screen, I use it too much. Photo Gallery took for-freaking-ever to load back up, and my picture frame widget looks grainy and jaggy. But the live wallpaper is smooooove.

Wish there were more homescreens, though; my widgets are crowded. Also just got a call while typing this and when the call ended, the lock screen popped up. What's up with that?

Ok so i've installed the update and it lists as 2.1 update-1, is this the jan 2010 release? if so, what steps will i need to update to the "full release" once made aval?

If you either got an over-the-air update or did the force update method then you have the most current official version of Android for the Droid. I think the "update-1" part refers to the fact that 2.1 needed a small patch to fix some bugs right after it was released with the Nexus One.

Only reason I am holding off with the update is the tethering.. issue..

Do you all think that will get an update by one of you smart guys SOON ?? I am traveling to an area that has no Internet access so I need the tether to do some work on my laptop.

You need to be rooted to use WiFi tether and have a kernel that supports it. It might be a while before that is ready. Your best bet is gonna be to get a custom ROM based off of ESE81.

What do you mean by that? 2.1 doesn't have tethering included in it or anything and isn't supposed to. Were you using a program like PDANet?

Root will allow you to turn your phone into essentially a broadband wireless access point, however.

yes I am using pda net... I know I don't have the tech ability to modify to one of the Rom's out there.. I could do the update but don't want to lose the ability to connect using PDAnet

Any direction on that I would appreciate.

Does PDANet not work with 2.1 or something?

I was told by the guys that posted the update that when we convert to 2.1 we lose the tethering ability... until someone comes up with a fix . That is why I was asking here as well if anyone was aware of that or is that not correct info ??

Is it possible to download the update.zip file to your phone and then use a file manager program to move it to /sdcard? Then it would be a matter of following the instructions from "4.Preparing for the Update" as posted by Trident?

Yes. I renamed it and moved it using Astro.

I have a problem im getting a low space notification after installing 2.1 and reinstalling my apps... i hit #10 of 60 i had and it comes up low space.. anyone have any ideas?

It's not a problem. You need to turn the setting on, as its off by default.

Go into your Settings --> Language & Keyboard --> Android Keyboard, and toggle it on (vibrate on keypress).
