OTA 2.1 Has started..

One small disappointment so far.....I like the Opera mini because I find it much faster than the stock browser.....but, no pinch to zoom on Opera. Thankfully Swype (the beta/registered version) works without a hitch.

Yes, I was worried at first that it would not, because at first it wouldn't work after I updated to 2.1. Doing an uninstall/reinstall took care of it and now it works great.

The update will go out nightly now, 200,000 phones per night.
Flash will be released by Adobe, it was never supposed to be included in the update. It has nothing to do with Verizon/Moto/Google.
It reportedly is dependent on 2.1 though, so it will come when Adobe is good and ready to send it.

First post but I've been reading this forum for a LONG time. Anyway, I'm bummed. I don't have the update yet. (Cincinnati, Ohio).

I hope it comes tonight sometime.

so wait..i got the update this morning..i updated it and the phone still looks the same..nothing has changed..

i thought we're getting more homescreens or somethin..im confused..my phone is literally the same phone it was before the update....it says version 2.1 update1

Got mine last night about 3 am pacific, although maybe it came earlier, but that was the time I just happened to wake up.

A few things that I have noticed:

1. live wallpapers, yeah it looks cool.

2. I like the improved photo gallery, makes things look cleaner also does support pinch to zoom.

3. Browser also supports pinch to zoom, although I fould that to be a little shakey and not so smooth.

4. Google weather/headlines app added plus a widget for it. Actually I like this and have been messing with this all morning with the headlines. Takes up a row of realestate on the screen, so it would have been nice to add additional home screens.

5. Something goofy happened after install, the four buttons on the bottom of the screen lost their light as so did the pull out keyboard would not light. I went in and toggled the display setting between auto and a set brightness level a few times and then turned on the light in the room and it started to work. Don't know what that was about but it is working.

6. One thing I thought that used to work but I honestly can't remember, is when you hit the search function and turned the phone sideways, I thought it went into landscape mode. For some reason it is not but maybe I don't remember that correctly, but I swear that mine did do this.

7. Also the live wall paper is working on the unlock screen before you unlock, which I think is pretty cool.

8. I tried the text to speech in text messaging and it worked like a charm. I can see me using it to do a quick text if I can't be looking at the screen to type.

9. Pinch to zoom does work in Google Maps now.

10. Also right after the download happend I checked my downloaded apps and the one for Visual Voice Mail was needing an update. I updated it but didn't really notice anything different. I hate when you get an update and it doesn't really tell you what they did.

Other than that, I haven't tried the rest of my apps and don't really see anything else to be excited over. Oh except that it seems the battery life looks to be a little better.

ok, nvm my earlier post, i finally saw what the update did..

but I do got a question...

my browser doesn't do pinch and zoom...we're talking about the browser the phone comes with right?

I had made some calls at 7:25 pacific time this morning and had no update. then at 9:40 I received the notification for the update. Installed it, but now Swype (the beta/registered version) is not working for me.

I read that it is working for Schimm. Guess I'll see if I can uninstall and reinstall Swype?

you could try that. or just enable stock android keyboard and disable swype. and then go back to swype. just so it toggles the old and then goes back to the new

Thanks, but I had already tried that and unfortunately it didn't work. Also restarted the phone a couple times with no luck. One other thing I noticed, is when I press and hold the text box for the input method screen, Swype is now above the Android Keyboard option, it used to be the opposite order.

Completely uninstalled and re-installed Swype, and it is now working again...

No problem with the suggested install method for 2.1 in my case, but had to reinstall the Weather Channel widget. I'll see what other seetings got messed up later. 15GB for the entire operating system, not much :-)
