Root 3g is wonky on flashed evo (boost)

blah...okay so I got my flashed evo (to boost) about a week ago...

i activated it...all that jazz and everything seemed okay. Then I noticed that my signal was HORRIBLE. if the 3g was there, it was greyed out and so were the bars.

so for a few days I went around thinking it needed to be reflashed and was all worried and mad and then yesterday at the doctor i noticed I had PERFECT signal. texts came and went like nobodys business...internet worked great.

the thing is, i have great boost and sprint signal at home. Other people with boost, sprint and virgin mobile all get great service here.

So...I have updated prl, and profile god knows how many times in hopes that it would help. I did it yesterday at the doctors office thinking maybe when i got home id stay connected or something.

I changed my evdo to cdma hda only and that helped tremendously. but it wont stay. it goes back to auto all the time. I did some other changes but i dont want to get in trouble for posting them here so if you want some more info, PM me.

I cant have a non-working phone. but I am in a dilemma because the guy that flashed it is a complete douche. complete. he told me i was looking too hard into the problem and the phone just needed to be reflashed. I told him I thought maybe a bit of the antenna we being weird or broken and he said theres no way (im not an idiot) I have been searching and searching, along with my husband for a week now...I keep finding bits and pieces of people with SIMILAR problems but i cant find the exact one. Which is why I am posting this. I have contacted many other flashers and have heard lots of different things. But i really do think that its just a small fix that I can do if someone knows the issue i am having.

So if someone would like to help me...that would be super awesome and wonderful of you.

I realize I do not have much knowledge but I have been reading for so long and not finding an answer that I thought it would be alright to ask and not get people all irritated on the forum.

EDIT: just figured out that my phone isnt rooted....at least as far as i can tell. I downloaded terminal emulator and typed su by the $ and it didnt # just did another $. I also tried to use the MSL reader app (first to see if 000000 was really a good password for ##3282#....) and it asked if i was sure my phone was rooted...and that made me check with the TE...so....does this pose problems when it comes to 3g not working well? or would rooting it make it easier to fix?

Do you have a custom rom on the phone? If so, which one?
I'm sorry you are having these problems, I have limited knowledge about boost but I'm sure we can come up with something.:)
 
okay so i was just about to edit this post....i am PRETTYYYY sure that this phone isnt rooted. like 98% positive. i used a terminal emulator and did the whole su next to the $ and it just gave me another $...not a #...

also...i randomly tried 000000 as the msl to get into the ##3282# thing and it works in edit mode...but is that the real msl?

I mean if you want to check you can always go to settings and look under "About Phone" and see what it has...

EDIT: Are you positive that the phone has been activated over the network, because i know 3G phones have to be activated manually...the new 4G phones activate automatically.
 
problem is, no i do not know this FOR SURE...i didnt flash the phone...and the kid who did is a lot less than helpful to me. its got my info in it and stuff for my boost account...

and...btw...i did end up finding the 'commit' button to save the cdma only thing...my signal is stronger. only at 23% though.. after i saved the change it rebooted...should i update prl or profile? should i roam only on sprint or automatic?

I know you PM'd me but i will pm you back telling you i responded on here, but i would suggest to update it.

I am assuming the ##3282## is the same as *#*#4636#*#*, going into phone information and changing the radios around...

I would just put it on automatic. Did you ever think there was an issue in hardware with the radio?
 
Where is the donor that your Evo is using? If you have it then PM me. If you do not have it then tell the dude that you need the keys for the phone that he used as a donor. If he refuses tell him that he is a scammer. He probably used a dummy phone that he didn't even have and used a fake aaa key to get you on to the data network.

The reason you had good reception in the dr office is because you and the other dude(s) with the same aaa keys were on different towers. When you come home you guys are all on the same towers so you keep knocking each other off the network.

Get the donor and flash it yourself. Screw this dude!
 
are you kidding right now? im so pissed off....ill ask him...he wont cooperate though. i know he wont. bc he told me im looking too much into it and it just needs reflashed. can you google talk me? ashley.mccardia89
 
okay so mikestony and I did a little research on the phone and here is what happened....

He had me take out the battery and then put it back in...vol down and pwr button to bootloader screen to check and see if it was rooted....

from this mikestony gathered that it wasnt rooted...so I called the flasher...asked him if he rooted it he said he couldnt remember if he did or not...hes flashed too many phones to count. k...i am a lady...and i really really do try to be patient...and nice...so i didnt tell him that i wanted to curb stomp his lying mouth.

I said okay do you have the donor? he said yes and i asked if he would be willing to give it to me... he said it wouldnt do me any good to have the donor.

...so i pressed and asked if he really did have the donor...he hesitated and then he said yes...and if i wanted the donor or the keys i could pay him 50 bucks.

so that leaves me here. I downloaded the root checker app and it also said the phone isnt rooted.

do i just need to pay to have it reflashed?...at this point im about to just throw it through a window...I have a VM optimus v that i didnt know if it could be used to flash the evo to VM or not...if thats the case...i think id be okay minus the sixty bucks i paid boost for service a week ago...

i have spent seven days researching this stuff...reading and asking questions and bothering countless individuals to help me...i just need someone to tell me what to do now.

so i just read your thread. this is why i am very leery of these kind of setups. for me this is what i would do: i would do a re-flash but do it your self. here is a great guide that goes into detail on how to do it:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/460035-evo-4g-boost-mobile-guide-evo-3d.html. this way you will save your money and you will leanr some valueable info. unfortunately, i have never done this so i can't give too much help, but there are others who have commented in the guide that for sure can help.

so it is up to you.
 
alright everyone...

if you are curious...thanks in large part to mikestony and ocnbrze i now have working signal at my house. it is consistently staying at 3g also and not 1x.

We rooted the phone, flashed cutom rom and were able to get to the epst settings to flash a new prl to see if that fixed the problem, AND IT DID!

So thank you, you two.. you saved my life, and probably my marriage too haha
