Eris to v2.x, when?

Perhaps the plan is to release it on the 3rd after all (as a twisted April Fools joke). Here's how it could play out...

Today (April 1st), being April Fools, they release a statement lamenting the fact that Q1 is over and that they will (hopefully) have it done by the end of Q2 (Q3 at the latest).

Tomorrow (April 2nd), they laugh about it all day long.

On the 3rd, they release the OTA and make a big deal about how Q1 really ended on the 3rd and that they'd played the most sadistic practical joke known to April Fools history and we plot our revenge.

On the 4th, revenge is executed (no pun intended (We can't take it that far.)). ;)

I heard from my sisters boyfriends brothers ex-wifes cousins moms brothers grandfathers neices step-fathers uncles coworker that it will be about 2 weeks.
 
There are 52 weeks in a year, so the end of week 13 would be the end of the first quarter. According to ISO 8601, week 13 ends on Sunday, April 4. So, maybe Verizon goes by that system (wouldn't suprise me, a lot of companies use do weird systems like this for financial quarters). We could see the OTA this weekend, I hope.

Usually the true end of the quarter is a few days after what they say so they can sure things up, hopefully the ota comes soon.

Seroisly?

1. Lawsuits take YEARS to settle, if they get into court, even longer. If we did have to worry about this, it'd be about our grandkids having htc phones, not us.

2. The US will NOT ban HTC phones. Period. Not going to get into all the details, but basically, Apple has to have competition whether they like it or not, and there's no way Apple can change that...Trade laws, monopoly laws, antitrust laws, etc all come in to play with this. Also, banning one company as a result of a lawsuit? Just not going to happen. IF HTC loses, they'd probably have to pay a crapload of fines and change any future phones to be compliant with the outcome of the lawsuit. That's IT.

3. Who cares? Let the big guys punch it out in courts. When it comes down to the end we'll see if it'll involve us little people. But until then, why bother worryting? It's not like we can do anything about it, it's in court, it's going to go through the system, it's going to end years from now.

Exactly. These are just more-of-the-same legal games ... standard operating procedure for all tech companies, and they're going to go on for years. They're not going to impact us, at least for a very long time, and everyone needs to stop obsessing about them.

Also, don't forget about Motorola, LG, etc... They all have stuff just like HTC, like "swiping the screen on a pre-defined patch to unlock the phone" and ridiculous complaints like that. Kinda dumb that they singled out HTC.

Well Apple's intent is to attack Android...so rather than man up and sue Google they sued HTC instead who makes the majority of Android phones...plus Apple doesn't see LG and Motorola as threats...
 
FWIW I talked to a manager at a VZW store today and he said that since the Droid update is going well we should be expecting the update for the Eris within the next week. A girl who also worked there looked at me and nodded. She was holding her Eris. I know, take it with a grain of salt because what they say doesn't usually amount to anything. I just figured I'd share.

No grain of salt needed here, those same things are being said by many people connected to Verizon, in retail or tech. My co-worker got off the phone last Thursday and came over to me and repeated that same stuff, emphasizing that it had to do with how the servers are doing with the Droid updates.
 
I just read something that users who upgraded to 2.1 via the leak, may encounter a problem when the official OTA comes out. I heard that the Moto Droid got the update, sooooooo, I went onto their site to read a little about any problems with the OTA update. One of the first posts was a tutorial about updating the phone. They said that the phone to be flashed MUST have the original OS (2.0, I guess) in order to get the update, otherwise there may be a problem. I wonder if this is the case as well with the Eris??

Personally I read it as *ROOTED* phones will have an issue. I read all the posts the day they pushed the OTA, because you guys were asleep or something over here in Eris land...LOL ... and I was bored. Even so, when the OTA gets pushed we will be able to do the same thing the Droiders did, and install the update from an image file. And if it won't do it from that, I am confident within minutes the guys over at XDA will solve the problem for us.
