If it makes any difference, I searched for the trademark rights and found that the Droid trademark is licensed by Verizon and not Motorola, and was done so by Verizon in an attempt to go directly at Apple (hence the Droid-does) commercials. I don't know much about the iPhone 4G, but I would guess that those types of commercials would taper off if the iPhone is to hit VZW as rumored.

However, Verizon has put more than $100 million into an advertising campaign for the Droid, and is now expanding that ongoing campaign with new updated spots. I can't imagine Verizon throwing more money at a device that many here already consider "obsolete," but rather invest it for a series of devices known as "Droids" regardless of manufacturer.

good digging, I didn't go that far to look for who trademarked the term.

With the Iphone deal, and the speculation on that, being it wouldn't be coming till late this year if not next... the "Droid Does" campaign could go for quite awhile (until a firm release from vzw). Hence why the continued Moto commercials even when a higher end device is soon to launch.

I hate to do the ole "I have a friend thing" but she is the manager of a Best Buy Mobile. I asked her if we could go through her computer to check the Verizon listings to see if we could find out when it was coming. Although, every listing was just a code number (and none of the ones previously mentioned for the phone) they had the phone value and delivery date attached to it. The only phone coming this month that was valued at almost $600 was to be delivered on April 25. I can't think of any other phone it could be.

Granted, who knows if BB even gets the phone on the drop date, but even a few weeks ago I had heard April 25 and the comment here

Verizon HTC Incredible is a Nexus One in Red? Phone Reviews

says it as well. I know it's all speculation but seeing the delivery date on their computer and hearing April 25 a few other places is the most concrete thing I've seen in weeks.

I'm jumping on the April 25 bandwagon. Seeing it posted from two apparently independent sources is good enough for me.

More likely that not if anything comes the lawsuit HTC will just have to pay Apple to use their patents and this is something that will take them at least a year to resolve.

The lawsuit is strictly with phones from HTC that have the android OS and Sense UI. That's my understanding anyway.

True, and HTC announced the EVO which would be running Sense UI.

Which would lead to believe it's VZW and not HTC or Google that is holding things up.

I thought it was software. Well then Apple is screwed because HTC has been making touch screen devices way before Apple.

I believe the lawsuit is for all HTC phones is has to do with hardware not software. It's their only way to attack Google since Google doesn't actually manufacture the phone.

The only reason I can think of for Verizon dragging their feet on the N1 is that Google made a deal with them to delay it. I could see Verizon saying that since they can't sell the N1 in stores they have wait until the Incredible drops before they can release it.

True, but the CDMA versions of the N1 (Sprint & VZW) may be a completely different phone (relatively speaking of course). For all we know, maybe this version is the most similar to the iPhone. They have already hinted to a "surprise". Who knows what that could be. Maybe the surprise is something Google could get into even more trouble for with Apple.

If the surprise is indeed something Google/HTC could get into hot water with Apple for, then I think I will like it, whatever it may be.

Apple really gets twitchy if someone tries to make a better product. Last I checked, broad ideas were not to be patented/trademarked. Anyone remember Apple going after Microsoft because Windows 95 had a start button and task tray?

It's all just history repeating.

Perhaps the "surprise" is vzw can service the N1 but can't sell in store and has to wait for INC to drop and the N1 gets updates first. And the big hold up for all is correcting the touch screen issues - causing further testing/delays...

Dammit! I just want my Incredible already!!!!

HTC may have a good chance because I believe they released a device using some of the patents in question months before the Iphone released. Apple is just scared that is why they listed 20 patents. Apple also is suing Nokia who has been around way longer and has way more patents of their own to kick Apple's butt with. HTC is relatively new in the mobile world.

Apple is just a pathetic company - i can go on in a huge rant about Apple.

Ipad - yay a huge mp3 player ... ??? not very innovative. edit: I got an idea lets take the ipod touch and make it bigger and sell it for 800 bucks! - ya great idea! - so innovative - it's like a new product! ... >.<

Anyway ... I heard the HTC desire was out and I was reading more info about that phone. I got excited but to only find out it's a GSM phone and probably not porting to Verizon. :(

Really hoping the Incredible does exist, will be released soon, and my fears are totally wrong.

If the surprise is indeed something Google/HTC could get into hot water with Apple for, then I think I will like it, whatever it may be.

So pretty interesting things coming from Twitter. I have been hounding @VZWOffers for a week now. Finally, today, he responded to me directly and seemed to not deny, but still finds a way to get around giving me a release date. Here it is:

Me: @VZWOffers PLEASE tell me how long I will have to wait for the HTC Incredible. Im begging.....on my knees.....literally....

VZW: @natr89 Begging on your knees huh Nate :-) Don't, because good things are coming your way, we promise.

Like I said, still no time....no date....no how long, but its hope. We do know this much from his post. They are not denying anything, therefore:

1. The phone is real
2. The phone is coming to verizon
3. The phone is coming VERY soon
4. They are absolutely unwilling to give a release date at this point

The date is really the only thing we have yet to get out of them. Lets keep hounding boys, maybe someone somewhere will break. :)

Woah. Talk about some real sexual connotations to that tweet coming from VZWoffers. Wow. LOL Then again, perhaps I'm just a perv.

lol you all do know that Microsoft stole from Apple right??

Bill Gates, stole apples Graphical User Interface and passed it off as their own in Windows.

Not saying im an apple fanboy, i use Windows 7 but thats what happened and thats why we see Microsoft where it is today.

They are both just looking for money in the end........they reap us of our money and don't care.

Steve jobs is a smart man though, i will give him that, marketing genius.

Anyways, im about ready to jump on the DROID bandwagon........

You also know that Microsoft and Saint Bill saved Apple's ass back in the day too, right??? You should read up on some computer history and find out all about how Mr. Gates bailed out Apple in the name of "healthy competition".

This day has been so confusing. I don't know what news happened and what news didn't happen.

I consider nothing happened today. It was April Fools... NKT had it right... he stayed away. As we all should have.

Imagine it, come back tomorrow, not knowing about any of the fake crap or being closed down...
woulda been nice.

Jobs is a marketing genius... who else could sell a humongous ipod that serves no real purpose?

:D Hey dude :D I'm no Microsoft fanboy but you gotta tell the whole story here .... because Jobs and Gates were/are both some thieves. Apple stole the GUI from Xerox (later they payed Xerox 100 mill for it) and Microsoft stole it from Apple. So the only innocent party involved is Xerox. :D BTW, this is a great movie Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999) (TV)

Yea, and im pretty sure that was after they stole apple's GUI interface from the codenamed LISA computer.

Steve Jobs was fired lol, he had family issues and crap.....apple went down the drain after that. Yes, then Microsoft bailed them out and own 25% of apple to this day. There was a keynoted when Steve Jobs was re-hired and they had a video chat during that keynote if im not mistaken?

look i don't want to dwell anymore into this thing, it's really off topic now.

Im not a fanboy, just saying that's what happened. Yea i know Microsoft bailed them out etc...but that was all after what happened.

Thank you for bringing it up before I did lol...It actually goes deeper than Xerox though, who also stole components from another company, its been so long I can't remember who and what it was, but I distinctly remember components that Xerox acquired with "less than honorable" methods...
