[International / GSM] Manual 4.1.2 update

Hey everyone, I just got wind of the 4.1.2 update (i'm slow, I know) and tried to slap it on my device with CWM, but it spit back a status 7 error. It was a canadian device stuck on yakjuux/4.0.2 that I manually flipped to takju/4.1.1 a while ago. So aside from being unlocked, rooting, and running CWM, it should be basically stock. I can't recall deleting any stock apps, but I could be wrong.

Anyways, what's the easiest way to jump to 4.1.2?
Revert back to a stock recovery, update, and reinstall CWM on top? Or will that throw a status 7 too?

Thoughts?

Yes, the phone will get wiped, and you will also want to be sure and backup everything that's on your internal SD.

Best way to go about it is to use one of the root toolkits. I use mskips Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit, which is pretty much so easy you can do it with your eyes closed. I've linked it for you below.

No, this is ridiculous... I flashed away from a yakjuux build because it would never get an OTA. I went to takju and not a custom ROM specifically because it would get OTAs. This makes no sense. There has to be a way for this to work...

.. then you should have stuck with the stock 'takju' and not rooted and not flashed a custom recovery afterwards; then you would get OTA's successfully installed with no bother.

The only way to achieve what you want would be, in theory, to unroot and flash the stock recovery. You'll have to research if and how this could be done. :confused:

In order to get OTA's you have to unroot. Trying to install an OTA update while rooted will produce undesired consequences or it could soft brick your phone (ie; it's a definite risk that I don't recommend).

You can either unroot and get the OTAs or simply flash the newest stock build with the root toolkit. As previously stated you can backup your 3rd party apps, call logs, etc. with TiBu and reinstall them when you're done, you can backup your internal SD to a PC or laptop, or just use the backup feature in the root toolkit.

As you can see, you do have options, and we are here to help you should you need assistance. :)
 
No need to wipe if you don't want to. Just reflash the stock recovery, then the update will install as normal OTA, if it's a stock rom. Or you can push it to the phone via adb in recovery.

By enabling 'OTA root keeper' (also now as Survival mode) in your SuperSU app you won't even lose root (just remember to turn Survival mode off once updated).

Reflash CWM if you want the benefits, but remember that you'll always need to go back to the stock recovery to upgrade. Or try one of the many custom roms out there that offer so much more stuff!

That's what I did, and I lost root and everything on the internal SD. However, I do not have access to Survival Mode in SuperSU as this is a paid feature.

TBH I do not see the point in using the feature due to the ease of re-rooting with the amazing toolkits we have access to, and the ease of restoring everything with TiBu. One could almost say that us G-Nex users are somewhat spoiled in how easy we have it with unlocking, rooting, and restoring. :D

That toolkit is the most amazing thing I've encountered in my phone modding days. I do feel spoiled by using it.
