I don't think that's how Froyo will work. I think it will include all the fluff, but said fluff will be updateable through the market individually.

Hi! Mateo, Most of the guys are asleep I think. I lived in Japan for 5 years and never went to any tourist locales. The phones there were killer but now it's the smartphone generation and they're just starting. Japanese luv the Iphone. It's a status thing. hehe.
The 1st few android phones are (except for the G1) starting to trikkle out.

Hi Maui, yeah I'm a total night owl and I work night shifts at work so I'm up when the people with real jobs are sleeping. I know what you mean about living somewhere and never going. I live across the street from the beach and never go.. so sad..

eah Bill i dont think it would be amoled, if anything super, im trying to work on cracking this one now too

Yeah, Im torn on what I'd rather have between the 2 because they both have their pro's and con's. Super AMOLED would be sweet though. Even though you've heard it a million times man, I would also like to thank you for the info you share with all of us daily.

Hey Mateo - welcome to the forum. Just so happens "Mateo" is my middle name and my wife and I will pick Mateo as a boy's name if we decide to have another baby soon. Anyways, sorry to get off topic. Just wanted to welcome you on board

Thanks for the welcome Cary, thats awesome about the name. I think I've met one other person with that name. Most of them are Matt or Matthew. I'm getting married in September and we are in the "when to have a baby" talks.

I definitely don't want to start an argument, but this was what I was thinking about. Maybe you read it differently than I do.

"'Froyo', Google's next Android version will be detached of the usual set of first party applications and core components that currently populate the OS. Instead of bundling those applications with the operating system, Google will instead make them available through the Android Market for download. This is currently how updates to Google Maps are handled on Android."

I have to agree with you Bill. It seems that a focal point of the Froyo will be to get rid of all the crap that comes along with an OS and let the user decide. Good stuff.

Google Navigation won't come preinstalled on the EVO 4G, but it will be available in the Android Market. I believe Android 2.1 is required or I would have downloaded it already to my HTC Hero. That phone (Hero) is supposed to get upgraded from 1.5 to 2.1 very soon, so I'll give it a try as soon as I get the update. Just think about how many unhappy customers Sprint would have on their hands if they couldn't get Google Navigation to work with the EVO 4G. Can you imagine how well Street View will work on this device? Oh, Man!!

I currently have a rooted Hero with a 2.1 ROM. I have Google Maps which has turn-by-turn navigation built into Maps. Is Google Navigation a stand alone product or is it updated Google Maps with Navigation.

I have both Sprint Navigation (free with my plan) and Google Maps with Navigation........I choose Google Maps with Navigation!

Not only that, but the article, which I provided a link to, talks about how this is Google's way of dealing with the fragmentation across the 4 Android versions on the market. It was also reported "that Google is finishing up most of the core work required for Android and will soon be shifting development to consumer features and applications". That sounds good to me!

Supersonical: This article from today says the Aloha is a GSM phone. LG Aloha May Sport the Android OS Plus a Large Screen and Keyboard it's coming to Sprint though depending on when it's released I'd have to consider it due to the keyboard. I'm hoping I can get used to the one on the Evo..Every time I've tried to type on a touchscreen keyboard I literally can't get a single letter right. Hopefully bigger screen/keys will help. Crossing my fingers anyway.

I think that's one of the reasons EVO is so big so it's easier to type on.

The touch screen typing is just like any other change, you get used to it. Usually within a couple of days. If you go from always having a physical keyboard to picking up a touch screen and trying it out. You're sure to have a few errors and might be turned off at first. I've had both over the past couple of years and there's something to be said for both. If I'm hammering out long emails for work I usually like a physical keyboard. But to shoot texts back and forth or use twitter etc its so easy to just touch the screen.

Hope so, tried typing on an iPhone over the weekend. I'd slowly and carefully touch a letter with my thumb...and it would always type a letter next to it. I don't get it. The other bummer is I can't see how you could ever type without looking at the keyboard as I'm doing right now on my tiny but oh so fast Palm. Regardless I'm still jacked up to get this thing!!!

I like the idea that we'll have voice to text as well. I'm going to try using it as much as I can, so I don't have to type much. My Hero only has the feature in Search, but I found it to be amazingly accurate - even the first time I used it without training.

Just put swype on the bad boy and you guys will be good to go!;)

and with the increased size swype will have to accomodate for it but I hope it gets rid of the arrow keys because I do not need them.

Saw this on th phandroid site but they say its from here. I didnt see it but since we were all discussing FROYO it seems if this is true that it will be an over the air update.

“Android 2.1 on it now with tons of HTC crap on top. Unless we push back the release date for some crazy reason, it will probably launch with 2.1 and any further Android updates will be introduced over the air. HTC has included an Over-The-Air update mechanism for 2.1 that should get rid of the upgrade headaches experienced with the Hero.”

I'll probably use that too Bill...unless I'm in public..that might be a little awkward..lol. My problem is I've been using physical keyboards for 8-9 years, going to be tough to use something different but eventually I bet they'll stop making phones with tactile keyboards.

Well hopefully that voice to text feature will be as accurate as I've heard it is. I also have it for Live Search and it is pretty good. I have heard that they will add a feature where you can select your nationality to account for accents etc. which is very cool.

The way on-screen keyboards are now it's pretty easy to get used to. Especially the way it works on android where it gives you possible word options as you type...makes it fast and easy!!

the HTC keyboards come with multi touch which make it much easier to type too

That is not the LG Aloha at all. I think its another LG phone that was set out in Europe. The aloha sprint will be getting is much nicer

Supersonical, any idea on when it would come out? Summer or we looking at Fall? As cool as I think having a WiMax phone would be I doubt I'd get 4G here before the Evo is obsolete anyway..We barely even received EVO Rev O where I live on Jan. 27. Sprint was the first national carrier in my area yet the rest moved in and rolled out 3G here before Sprint.

Oooooh man! Now I'm really confused! With the LG in the mix I am torn between 2 devices! I have always had keyboarded phones 6700,6800,TP. EVO was the first one without I even considered. Crap crap crap. I still think I'll get the EVO though...hehe

It would make sense for Sprint to release the EVO before the iPhone...
I'm not too overly concerned that the iPhone will come out before the EVO. Let them have their iPhone. Once the EVO comes out they will realize how great it is and pissed that they can't switch cause they are stuck with AT&T and stuck in a long contract. But then again, most iPhone users are already brainwashed by the Delmonte Apple Sauce marketing that they don't see anything else other than apple.

Saw this on th phandroid site but they say its from here.

Yes it is actually post # 1344 and # 1347 of this thread.

As for that offtopic forum, I paid and joined (cause I'm noisy like that), and I must say, not for nothing, but those folks over there do not know what kind of a goldmine they are sitting on. The guy is giving them inside information and yet some of them are acting like total fools tearing down Sprint.
