Sprint Jellybean Update - Rollout Begins 10/25!

It's not showing up in stock ANDROID RECOVERY. I think I can move it to a folder that the stock recovery sees (dcim, Camera, & a couple others).

It's probably the same file as hosted on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956618

There are no downsides that OTA wouldn't have. Corrupt downloads would just be rejected automatically by OTA, where you just need to check the MD5 against what is posted for the file you download.

IIRC, you need to put it in the root of your internal storage or in the root of your SDCard (if you have one). Android recovery should find it.

There are videos showing you how to do it, too. One is contained in the post that you got the file from.

Just did it using this instructional

Super simple, working great here!

Note:I had mine in a folder on the external SD card, still zipped with no issues.

Another Note: If you want the simple rundown here it be:

Download zip file of update (no need to unzip)
Copy zip to your device, internal or external (I created a folder in my extSD card called Jellybean)
Turn off phone (hold power choose turnoff)
Once its off, press the home, vol up and power button at same time - Phone should boot into manual update screen
Use the volume buttons to navigate to the zip file, press home to select.
Sit back and wait.

THX! It's loading up as we speak. The zip downloaded to the phone, not my SD CARD.Just had to move it .

My apologies for all the unnecessary questions.:o:hmmmm::questionmark::D

I merged a few other threads into this one. Thanks for the reports, everyone! (SU wasn't the only one)

We now have another thread, aimed @ those who don't wanna wait for the OTA.
Should those posts in this thread be moved there?

So how's everything after the update? I think I'm ready to make the plunge

Like butter.......

This was by far the easiest upgrade/ROM flash, etc.... to date.

I didn't lose an iota of data,apps,settings,etc.... It just copied right over the previous O/S.

Just check in your settings to have GOOGLE back-up everything & you should be good to go.

You will probably have to side-load ADOBE FLASH PLAYER, as it's not in the market for JB,but, I already had it side-loaded pre-upgrade & it appears to be working OK.

Done! Everything looks good so far! I'll keep poking around later as I'm in the middle of Halloween shopping with the gf

Isn't it supposed to be Christmas shopping & Trick or Treating for Halloween?

JJ, enjoy the evening w/the GF. :D

Job did roll out to some sprint users, unfortunately my build number wasn't the one to be updated at this time. So here I am ,Saturday morning going through forum as I usually do and came across manual update your sprint phone to jellybean, post is from qb77 . I watched his video, and within 10 minutes I had jellybean. It is the exact one sprint put out. Check out his post if you are like me and don't feel like waiting for your build number to come up.

i just installed the update for my gsIII... worked like a charm and was easy as sitting here... special thanks to qbking77 for the assist with the youtube vid...

ill work it more tomorrow to see what the dealio is...

thanks guys!

My friend just got his sprint S3 and know little about phones. I looked and it is still on 4.0.x. When I check for updates it shows no updates available, or something similar. Shouldn't he have JB by now? Also, is it an OTA update and wouldn't this take forever on 3G? He's really not ready to handle a computer file update.

While it is available on Sprint it rolls out in waves. He likely just hasn't received it yet. And he will absolutely want to install the ota over WiFi.

I've root my GS3 but my Clockworkmod root doesn't allow any updates from sprint. I'd like to get Jellybean and wanted to know how to get it without updating a patch to bust my root. Your help is appreciated...

Im in LA and I got the notification that JB is coming to my phone shortly (in about 2-3 weeks i think)and then I searched online, found someone just go to setting, application manager, all, click on google service framework, clear data, then go to software check now, can got the JB right away.
I gave it a try, after check now, the last check became xx/xx/1969 and I hit the check now again, guess what, I was downloading 37x.xx mb of file and now I have JB in my phone.
I am with sprint and my phone is never rooted or unlocked. some said you might have to do that clear data and then check thing serveral times, but I got mine on the first try and everything went smoothly.
maybe you guys want to give this a try. so far I saw some more features but I don't know how to use them yet, like google now and i heard there's S note lite and stuff, but I can't find it LOL
