Root Restoring apps after flashing a rom

Hello all. I rooted my phone a couple months ago and have been on the MikG Rom ever since. My battery life was extremely bad though. I would unplug my phone and 10 minutes later lose 10%. By mid day I'd be at 15-20% even with minimal use. I didn't know if it was the ROM so I flashed a new one just now. I did a Nandroid backup prior to flashing the new ROM but my question is how do I restore all of my apps that I downloaded? I'm guessing they're in the Nandroid backup but I can't figure out how to restore them. I just read a bunch of stuff on here about backing up your apps with Titanium Backup and similar apps but I didn't do that. Did I mess up and lose my downloaded and paid for apps? Appreciate any help :cheers

Since I really don't like the ROM I just flashed I tried to restore the Nandroid Backup I just did and I'm getting an error message :( "Oops... something went wrong! Please check the recovery log!"

So damn, I guess I messed up somehow??? Can anyone help me restore so I don't lose my apps?

It says there's no backup. The important stuff is all at the bottom. Are you sure you have the nandroid in the correct folder on the SD card?

And about your apps...if you didn't back them up before a rom flash, they are gone off of the phone unless you have a partitioned sd card along with DTa2sd. They are still saved to google but you will have to reinstall them.

Titanium Backup is a recommended app to have. Even the free version. I would recommend the paid version if you have 8 bucks laying around :)

Its also possible the Nandroid backups are indeed there, just renamed to something that the custom recovery can't parse.

Could the OP have renamed the backup directory or folder in question or included some special characters like a space, question mark, asterisk, etc.?

Those issues could also manifest themselves like a missing backup...

Just my 2-cents :).

Cheers and best of luck!

Thanks for the reply. Which folder should the nandroid backup be in? I have a nandroid folder on the sd card and in that nandroid folder is the backup that I made.

Also it sounds to me like you are experiencing a wake lock with the battery issues.

How do I go about fixing that? I read on here that battery dying quickly could be because of kernels so I was gonna try to flash a different kernel but Id have to read up on that a bit more.

When you say back them up before flashing the rom - does the nandroid backup not count? From what I remember when I posted a thread 2 months ago, the nandroid backup is like a restore point so shouldn't the apps be there as well? Or do you have to back the apps up separately? I'm guessing thats what has to be done. DOH!!!!! lol

Appreciate the replies though :cheers I didn't like the rom that I flashed to so for now I went back to the MikG rom

The nandroid is definitely there because if I mount the phone to my pc and click on the folder I see all of the contents of the backup. But frankly, if restoring the nandroid wont bring my phone back to how it was - apps and all - I don't really need to do it lol. It'd be nice to get it working right though somehow.

The way I had it was nandroid folder had another folder inside it and then there was another folder which contained all of the backup. I just copied that folder into the main nandroid folder so now its asking me to choose what I want restored. It has:

boot
recovery
wimax
system
data
cache
android_secure.tar
nandroid.md5

What should I restore from there - if thats even right?

You shouldnt have to move anything from the folder it was in when you originally made the backup. It sets it up the way its supposed to be when you do the nandroid. I just wasnt sure if you had moved it prior.

I would move that back.

Did you change the name to nandroid-mobile v2.2.1? The name may be the problem

I didnt actually move it. I copied it so it's still in the original place it was but it also has a copy now just in the nandroid folder and not a folder inside another folder. When I try to do a restore the way it was initially, I see the folder that I named MikG Rom - 10-27-12 and inside that folder is another folder titled BCDEARS-20121027-1744. When I click on that I get the press power to confirm and then the error message. I haven't clicked on any of the individual .img files yet because I don't know if thats gonna mess it up.

I did actually rename the folder. I forgot about that. But I read on here to rename the folder with the name of the rom and the date so you know what it is. But I see that folder and when I click on it I see the other folder inside that folder and thats when I get the error message.

But I didnt change the name to nandroid-mobile v2.2.1

When the nandroid backup is made, on your sd card you will see:
/sd-card/nandroid/ht185xxxx/bcdears20120901-xxxx

The ht185xxxx I believe is the phone identity
The bcdears is what was backed up....the 20120901 is the date....the xxxx is ???
It may look something similar on your phone.
Anyway, when restoring, you just need to choose the bcdears(date)(xxxxx) file..not what is inside of it...cuz everything inside of it is your phone's "snapshot"

Did I explain that good enough?

Edit: I'm too slow typing, I saw 2 more of your replies :)

I just figured it out somehow lol. Looking at my post w the recovery log, the nandroid backup was initially titled
HT17SHL25048
I saw that in the recovery log when skimming through so I just renamed the nandroid backup folder that instead of MikG 10-27-12 and now it's working. So the main folder inside the nandroid folder is named HT17SHL25048 and then the folder inside that folder is the BCDEARS-20121027-1744. It's restoring right now yay lol. But from reading the earlier posts, thats still not gonna get me back my apps though right? That sucks. Thankfully I didn't have a lot of paid for apps but still sucks to have to buy them all again. Oh well, supporting the cause lol. Thanks for all your help guys. :)

You should get your apps back with the nandroid...did you backup the android_secure and the sd-ext (if partitioned) when making the nandroid backup originally?
And you need not pay for apps again once purchased :)

Correct, any paid apps will still be purchased. Worse case scenario you'll have to redownload them and will have lost the app data.

The nandroid should have backed all of that up (apps and data) if done correctly

You can rename the backup, but not the folders. The folders are used to identify your device.

99% sure thats the cause.

Do you know what that folder was named originally?

EDIT: looks like you figured it out. that HT17SHL25048 needs to be there to identify its your devices backup

With your help - thanks. If you didnt bring changing the name up then I wouldnt have thought of it but if the recovery log didn't have that name I'd be screwed either way lol. And whats cool is the nandroid does backup apps and all so I got my paid apps back. Sweet. Now I just gotta back them up so I don't lose em again. Thanks everyone for the help.

From me OG EVO memory.....(its getting hazy :o)

I believe the XXX on bcdears20120901-xxxx is the time. Its just not going to be correct with respect to where you are in the world though.

And for the OP:
You can change the bcdears20120901-xxxx to whatever you please. I typically just used to do something like bcdears20120901.mikg This still left the date I just added a short note of whatever ROM it was

Just dont include spaces or special characters :)

You might have renamed the wrong folder. Shouldn't it be the last one that's changed to the rom name?
Also its better not to have spaces in the name if you have.
Edit : I'm even lower it seems three other people reied a lot quicker than I did and mine was only two lines!!

Yes this thread is flying
