Is it just me or is the sgs3 for metro way too overpriced?

Also before the Contest sort of leaked the price of $ 499

most thought the S3 would be $599 or at least $ 549 so the price is very very good.

And the only limitation is- white.

Blue would have been better IMO- but a minor complaint.

Great phone ,excellent price ,great Plans.

Damn that Galaxy has a beautiful Screen......

I agree, you can get the nexus and htc evo pretty cheap-- used no contract(of course if you flash it over it won't have 4g), but their not low end phones and do have lots of power behind them. The SG3 is good, but not great(certainly not worth $500 on any carrier with no contract) and I believe if you want a low price high end phone, get an lg motion. The specs are pretty good and it works smoothly. 1.2 Ghz isn't too shabby and it is $350 below the SG3.

we're talking retail prices here. if you want to talk used prices you can get a S3 for as low as $350.

500$?!? I mean yeah, its a badass phone, but for pete's sake, its for metropcs. Does anyone else think they should lower the price just a tad bit?

I had the S3 for Sprint. Bought it for MetroPCS. And now just bought the Note 2 for Sprint. Had to sell the Sprint S3 though. The Note 2 was the most expensive of them all...

On to a serious note, the Galaxy S3 is what you would call a "Top-Tier" phone. Top-Tier phones do not release for cheap. Especially when sold off contract. $500 is actually a good price for the S3. It sells for $550 for other carriers off contract. It has massive specs that are unmatched on MetroPCS. I'm sure you may see some deals for it later down the road, but for now, while its the top selling phone on the market, you'll have to pony up the cash.

Again, $500 may seem like a lot for a phone, but if you consider the purchase of cheaper, less capable phones throughout the time span of, lets say, 2 years... it'll probably be cheaper to get the S3. I have known people who would buy 2-4 phones for Metro per year. Go cheap, get cheap. Sure, the Motion may be a good device, but that will have a short life-span due to it's screen size/resolution. As more phones move to HD, more apps/software will demand higher resolution devices.

come on people, i remember buying my LG ESTEEM for $450 dollars. OFC i would pay $500 for this phone, why? Because its worth it. Considering that it is 5 times better than the esteem i can't seem to hesitant to get it.

If you currently own a Connect 4G or Esteem and have kept it in decent condition you should be able to sell either phone locally in the $140 - $160 range depending on your area.

Then if you order the S3 from an online vendor instead of buying it from Metro or a local dealer, you can avoid taxes and fees and get an S3 for $499 flat.

Being in the $350 ballpark for a new S3 ain't so bad.

I say it's not expensive at all, and is in fact, the least expensive.
Here's the way I see it;

Verizon SGSIII (w/2 year contract) = $199
2 years service (w/2GB Data) = $2,880

Total (phone + 2 years service) with Verizon = $3,079

Metro PCS SGSIII (with NO contract) = $500
2 years service (unlimited Data) = $1,200

Total (phone + 2 years service) with Metro PCS = $1,700

That's a $1,379 difference, so I think it's A LOT cheaper.

thats also not mentioning if you have to go over your limit with verizon ;)
metro pricing just beats everything

scratch that,

nexus 4 dropping November 13th. $350 for the 16GB, $300 for 8GB version at the play store.
Google, LG officially announce the Nexus 4; coming November 13th for $300

im tempted to jump on tmobile's BYODP and grab this sucker....BUT it seems it has no external SD slot. for me, thats a deal breaker.

And if you do which plan would you be under?

Personally i would also get a nexus and move back to T, mobile but i don't think i can handle not having unlimited data again.

I like to watch videos,.and stream music and shows and browse the Web with no worries b:)

Unsupported Browser

BYOD(bring your own device)

no limit all plan for $69.99(taxes and fees extra).

tempting, but im waiting to get these phones and more when metro and tmobile merge. its also possible metro will get the LGOG sometime in Q1 of next year.

but if you dont want to wait...

bag of hair..

the non removable battery i can live with and i could even tolerate the non extSD slot if it were 64GB but 16gb isnt enough when you cant expand it.

this phone will still get good 4G speeds even without LTE. HSPA+ can get get good speeds as well. verizon and sprint customers will be stuck with 3G speeds though.

I don't think it's over priced but I don't think it's worth the price. If that makes sense.

The new nexus 4 is priced at 299 and 349 and you can take it to any gsm carrier you want. And if you go spec for spec you'll notice that not much is different. Plus the nexus is vanilla and all updates comes straight from Google. Metro isn't the greatest on pushing out updates ota.

This is my opinion anyway.

You sure love nexus :). However if it's true that Nexus 4 isn't coming with LTE, then no thanks...

For fuzzy HSPA works best for me I wouldn't consider a non lte phone lte coverage in Florida is just too good to pass on

exactly me too, plus i get VERY good plan prices, now possibly with one of the best PHONES in the world, why should i consider another thing :)?

500 aint bad for the phone if it was unlocked an or you are able to get it unlocked but nope sorry this is cdma so its metro or no one . where you are getting screwed is that you cant leave metro and use it for another carrier

How is this any different from verizon, sprint, virgin, or any other CDMA carrier? I really don't understand you people complaining about the price being too high. Its at least $50 cheaper then any other carrier if you wanted to pay full price to them.

If Metro were to subsidize this phone they'd have to make up for it by raising price plans. You should all know by know that Metro charges full price for phones and in return you can get unlimited everything plans for cheap and no contracts, fees or any of the other thousand things that come with getting a contract and a subsidized phone.

Also they may very well drop the price or run a sale on it for the holidays or after the initial excitement and sales have started to wane.
With Metro's customers high phone turnover rate it makes sense for them to charge full price for one of the hottest phones on the market and certainly the hottest and most modern phones to hit Metro.

It'd be interesting to see what Metro's sales of the S3 are like especially compared to previous high priced phones.
