Root [DEV] WIP CM9 (Camera) [updated 2/23/2013]

All,

I have hit my limit on what I can functionally solve on the camera. Sadly I just don't have enough coding experience or kernel experience to take us to the next level. I know what my limits are and I believe I have reached them with out more schooling and more experience.

So if you can't do it what do you do? You ask for help :D I have opened up talks with Dorregaray who solved the Camera on the HP Touch Pad (which never shipped with Android). He will be assisting me in hopefully solving the camera! I don't want everyone to get to excited until we have something working but he is walking me through trying to port the camera functions from CM7 into CM9. So hopefully before Christmas we will have a working camera on CM9!!!

Here is to hopefully many clicks, and lots of cheese's!!!

So have a big question...how is wifi tethering on this ROM? I use it all the time since I only get service in one spot in the shop...am running CM7 TG Reloaded and its an AWESOME ROM but, this looks like the hook for me :D been waiting SO long for this ROM to be stable and this on might keep me from ditching s*** VM to my iPhone on straighttalk. Keep up the incredible work! Very thankful for everything you guys do all the time!

Doh! So close. If he opts to put his time into it, it will be solved. Only concern is he is still actively working on TP cam still. Trying to fix the infamous rotated first picture bug. Keep your chin up and your ears open g60. Maybe learn a thing or 2 about cam/kernel dvelopment. Hope to see what's next.

To me everything works fine...only market works slow and I guess I have to update that and also camera doesn't work. I believe I have to reformat the SD

Anyway we can reach out to the previous devs of the Triumph such as mantera or whyzor for help?

as my promise at xda,, I will upload my kernel sources but not on github maybe at dev-host as a .tar.gz I don't have much bandwidth to push on github.. I will confirm to you when it done today..

I believe we maybe having issues with it. I have not taken time to test yet. If you could let me know I can start work on it after the camera, along with USB tethering as well. Those two will be on the list and then maybe hdmi. My goal is to make this ROM 100% functional before moving on to CM10.

Will do as soon as I get it working lol. Can not seem to get past the setup wizard...have TWRP

I switched back to CM7 with latest CWM and works very good. I like the new CM710 but it still has issues that needs to be fixed. ;)

There are going to be issues. This phone is black sheep of moto phones. There was never a proper source for this phone.

abenagiel,

Thanks, I have pushed your sources to github!

https://github.com/MTDEV-KERNEL/abenagiel-android_kernel_fih_msm7x30

thanks man,, my tweak are :
- KSM support
- frontswap
- swap support
that feature will make ICS more smooth..

for enabling swap you must repartitioning your sd-card using partition wizard home edition (its freeware you can google it) become FAT + ext + swap..
and flash this update from via CWM AUTO-MOUNT-SWAP.zip for mounting swap partition on your rom..

Yes ksm and frontswap are nice little tweaks! I had added them to my kernel back in the day but its been so long since I have kept up a kernel lol!

Is there any way I can install this going from the cm7 I have on my phone or do I have to revert to stock OS and then install this one?

you have to do a full wipe, which you should do whenever you install a rom, but if you got from CM7->CM9 without doing factory reset and clearing dalvik cache things will not work right

you do not need to go back to stock per se just make sure you do a factory reset in recovery

How do I clear my dalvic cache?

Hey G60 and the MTDEV crew. Just wanted to say I have been following this ICS development for a loooooooong time. The OS works flawlessly (minus the camera). Thank you so much for all the time and effort you guys have devoted to this task.

So the camera is working now in the latest build?

Nope not yet, trust me you will know when it's working :) I am getting a lot closer, right now I have a new CameraHal based on rampmv78 code which is written for 2.6 kernels and msm devices. What is taking so long is I need to build the source (32 minutes) then load the new image and check the errors on the boot based on ADB

11-08 05:21:31.476: E/HAL(129): load: module=/system/lib/hw/camera.msm7x30.so
11-08 05:21:31.476: E/HAL(129): Cannot load library: link_image[1965]: 129 could not load needed library 'libcamera.so' for 'camera.msm7x30.so' (reloc_library[1314]: 129 cannot locate '_ZN7android7Overlay5setFdEi'...
11-08 05:21:31.476: E/HAL(129): )
11-08 05:21:31.476: E/CameraService(129): Could not load camera HAL module

Then based on this error I then need to install a patch to resolve it. Once this patch is installed I then need to build the source code all over again reload the phone, boot it, and check the log and make sure it is fixed. If it's a new error I need to start all over again finding a new patch. So as you can see this is very slow going. So far I have installed two patches today but probably have a lot left due to specific calls our camera makes.

Keep it up G60...you're definitely getting closer man
