even after all this time and all these carriers i have yet to see a single N1 in the wild, the reviews on the n1 so far have been so so. with the screen issues and such. Aesthetics may be a bit of a factor but remember in the latest pictures we have seen the only red on the incredible is a small sliver around the camera and the speaker grill...also remember the N1's trackball glows different colors (not exactly completely professional) and as far as price, I really doubt the incredible will be $300. i believe it might be $300 with a $100 rebate but I would be very surprised if many phones get released in this day and age above that magical $199 mark.

just my .02

sorry, after posting this and looking back, i see this is getting off topic so I will just leave it at that

Also, for those with a NE2 discount, can you use it to get a Nexus One. I think if people cannot apply the NE2 to the Nexus One, they will get the Incredible instead.

Hopefully you're right about the price. But here's the rub ... we know the Incredible is going to be significantly more expensive than the Droid. Isn't it reasonable to predict that the Droid is going to suck up a lot of the in-store interest? Its got a decent feature set, and its priced to move.

I understand that everyone in this thread want the Incredible. But the average (and substantially more populous) general public just wants a cool, fun phone that works, for a good price. So I could see the Droid leeching away a good portion of the in-store sales.

I don't see how a discussion of the relative sales success of the Incredible would be off-topic for a thread on the Incredible. Moreover, if the Incredible is a marketing success, Verizon might spend more time and expense into things like pushing updates to existing users. If the Incredible is a sales failure, it might drop in priority. Its a relevant concern in any event.

Excellent point! As of now, we don't really know if the N1 from Google is going to be subsidized or not, and whether VZW discounts will apply. T-Mobile not only subsidizes the N1, but provides upgrade pricing discounts for existing customers. On the other hand, AT&T apparently does neither of these.

If the VZW N1 goes out at $529 (like on AT&T) while the Incredible is something like $199 in-store, then you'd have to assume the Incredible is going to move more units.

There is a reason the nexus one still has dismal sales and it's googles own sales model that has made that happen.
Selling the thing online only,...please.
What if it was the way you had to buy a car, but only from ford.
Ford would be selling far less than the competition, and would either get with the program and sell like everyone else or slowly die a long painful death.
We know google is not going to die so they are either going to change the way they sell or they will stop selling phones altogether.
IMHO

Or Google may just be investing in their OS by providing the different manufacturers money for research and design of their own phones. This gives better designs for other Android phones which Google will profit from.

Good point, but in business it might not be the best idea to put something that much into the public eye, half knowing they way you are going about it makes you look bad.
Say apple sells a jillion phones and google sells 19 phones, you and I may get the point of R&D but the public might see it as a massive failure.;)

I personally think that the Nexus one will outsell the incredible and here's why?

* There are not a lot of people expecting the incredible as much as we are.
* Google has managed to advertise the Nexus one on every friggin webpage you open, so there is a lot more people expecting the Nexus one. Verizon has amazing service, so people that want the Nexus one but dont want the crappy service from other carriers might switch for it.
* Again, while the incredible is an awesome phone, i do not see it outselling the nexus one at this point, because the fan base is not as huge.....

One thing to note here... google is probabyl using behavioral targeting. People who search on phone sites, are going to see phone advertisements. If this were a car forum, you'd see car ads.

The amount of people who buy from stores vs. purchasing online is huge. When people go in to ask about the N1, they're gonna have the VZW reps who are getting paid commissions on the Inc. pushing a phone with better support, specs, and availability(walk out with it today). Unless Google pulls a 180 and allows the phone in stores or prices it significantly lower than the Incredible. There's very little chance that it will be able to outsell the Incredible.

Just got off the phone with this wonderful tech support guy at VZW because of some difficulty I had d/l my son's ringtones. He helped me and we had this loooooooooong conversation, as my son was picking his ringtones.

Thankfully, he is a phone nut, like we are. He follows phonearena and phonescoop, so I invited him here and told him to feel free to lurk. He told me he would and he wrote down the name of our forum and will check us out, later. I told him my screenname. (I'm sure if he reads this he'd know me anyway.)

The long and short of it is that he is this. When I asked him about the new phone, he said, "the incredible?" (it was nice to talk to a CSR who knew something!) Basically, he had seen pix and specs online as well.

He wasn't able to provide any new information except to say that usually he plays with phones around the tech support area and usually they do have some info. on stuff, but on this one, VZ is being very secretive and tight-lipped. (we knew that too.)

I asked him, "Alright, if you don't know anything, perhaps you can help me with this... there has been some rumor around saying that the increcible is a hoax. Can you say that it's not?" He responded honestly by saying that if it was a hoax that would be most unusual, as he's "NEVER SEEN PHONE SCOOP OR PHONE ARENA SO FAR OFF THE MARK, USUALLY THEY HAVE BEEN PRETTY MUCH ON THE MONEY." I took that as a no, so keep the faith!

He told me that he will changing over from BB to the Incredible once it comes out and is expecting the Incredible to be a superior phone to the N1 based upon the information he has seen over the internet.

Not much, but some hope.

Finally, to my CSR friend, if you're here lurking? Thank you for your help with my son's ringtone's and for your pleasant and helpful demeanor over the telephone! :) PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE WHY I WOULD NEVER LEAVE VERIZON, as you and I discussed over the phone when we were talking about the EVO and Sprint's version of 4G. Thank you, take care! :D

Maybe I am self deluded but I think the public NEEDS to see it, touch it, be able screw around with it.
Our whole society is based around commercials telling you to go do something.
All google is giving you is a small ad on a web page.
Even the stupid droid is shoved down your throat 24-7, not the nexus 0ne.
The only commercials I see more than droids, is car insurance, and mcdonalds.
I dont think the general "non phone fan" public even knows this stuff exists.
But everyone knows the iphone and the droid.

and that is why i will be getting an incredible. i'm on a family plan and won't be able to get a subsidized N1, so i will be getting an incredible once they are released. i would choose the N1 over the INC no question if they were both 199. i'd take the google "cool" recognition over the sleeker htc form factor.

also, 5mp is actually likely better than 8mp in this case. more light to each pixel sensor assuming the sensors are the same overall size = better picture, especially in low light. hard to argue trackball over optical pad, but i'd make that trade for the socially cooler (read: better iphone competition) phone.

I think the N1 is at least gonna be offered subsidized to solo plans like it is on T-Mobile, and if Google really wants to sell some, they should offer it on family plans too. I think they will (No proof, just a hunch). I definitely think they're gonna offer more than just the $529 no contract option.

Incredible vs. N1 on which will sell more seems like a race to the bottom to me. The N1 has a sales model that hasn't really panned out. The Incredible will probably be the most expensive model in the store. IMO, neither will sell too many, but I'd give a slight edge to the Incredible, simply because people will be able to walk into the store and get one.
