No grain of salt needed here, those same things are being said by many people connected to Verizon, in retail or tech. My co-worker got off the phone last Thursday and came over to me and repeated that same stuff, emphasizing that it had to do with how the servers are doing with the Droid updates.
So, should we expect it to come right after the Droid is done using the OTA push bandwidth? I'd like to think so.
Wasn't the Eris the Android phone to come out after the Moto Droid? I'd hope they would do it in the order of users waiting the longestThat is the impression I get. Somebody here even posted some specs about that endeavor: how much bandwidth it takes and how many Droid devices there are to update, etc, and then an equal sign with how much time it would probably take to finish the Droid stream, I think it was two weeks, before starting the next device (and Eris is not the only other Android device in need of an update; there is the Moment and others).
The only big ? in my mind has been, "how do we know the Eris is next in line after the Droid?"

They came out on the same day: Friday, November 6.

Don't you have the time of day of each device's release? C'mon, who which was first????!!![]()
Ha ha. But seriously, I think we all know that the Droid is getting their relatively small 2.0.1->2.1 upgrade before our giant 1.5->2.1 upgrade because they paid more for their phones, and they're the "Flagship" phone, and their upgrade is technically easier.
... if they are starting with the bigger markets will the update be based by telephone numbers or the actual location of the phone at the time?
My brother's Droid got the update this morning so i guess there is some hope..
Keep us posted on how that works out for you.Verizon folks told us (back in January) that the new OS 2.1 would enable voice dialing, and that the new OS would be here in a matter of weeks. It looks like it is time for a class action suit against Verizon for selling us a product with a significant defect - that cannot be used by in the usual (and promised) way (e.g., with bluetooth for dialing in the car). The option for VZ would be to let us out of our contracts without penalty.
You on 1.5 or a leaked 2.1?I am with you. I am tired of waiting. at least once a day i can not make a call or when some one is trying to call me all i hear is buzzzz.
I must turn it off and on before making a call.

It seems doubtful that has anything to do with the phone, and could be more likely it has to do with peripheral coverage at your location when it is happening, given you are using the stock operating system and not one of the leaked versions of 2.1 in which case I'd suspect the phone.
But, having said that, we do see issues coming up that make me wonder about the quality control at the factory where the devices are made. This stuff comes up in every forum for every device I've seen, Blackberries, etc; there are sometimes folks with issues that can't be explained by user error or applications or whatever and this leads me to believe the hardware itself is sometimes put together with less than exacting standards, no matter which brand or style of device we're talking about.
It's almost as if it's a crap-shoot when we purchase a new phone; maybe we'll get a good one and maybe the next person in line for the same model will end up with issues.
